Politico:

On Sept. 24, Hillary Rodham Clinton received a surprise phone call from the man she's often denounced as an economic know-nothing: John McCain.

This was no social call, even though Clinton likes McCain enough to keeps his photo on the wall of her Senate office. The GOP nominee had already chatted with Bill Clinton about the mortgage crisis and wanted to pick the senator's brain about her new proposal to have the federal government buy up bad mortgages and renegotiate terms more favorable to homeowners on verge of default.

"McCain said he had been motivated by it, he was very complimentary about what she had proposed and wanted to know more," said a person with knowledge of the call.

Clinton responded coolly: "She didn't engage him, she just said, 'Thank you' and heard him out."

From the article above:

“It’s hilarious. It’s like McCain is trying to copy her, but he’s using a busted Xerox machine,” said one of Clinton’s top campaign advisers. “We were out in front on the economy. She was the first one to really pay attention to people’s anxieties, and both Obama and McCain have been playing catch-up ever since.”

They cannot be serious.

When you run a campaign based entirely on personal ego (Were you in this for me?) it is VERY hard to let go.

This must be how he got through the Naval Academy (well, along with the help of his dad and grandfather): copying the work of others.

McCain: emasculated, corrupt, gutless and clueless.

They think we've forgotten how she virtually tweaked Obama's economic plan and made it her own. She borrowed from him several times. But they are starting the legend of "Hillary was the Original".

And I do believe Obama also reached 18 million votes (he actually DID get a few more popular votes than Clinton unless you give him NO votes in Michigan, so Begala's claim that she is the first primary candidate to do so is flatout wrong.

She broke 18 million? Wow! That's like breaking the 379 career homers mark in baseball! I'm impressed! Or not.

I have a real good idea how this call went. "I, hehe, am calling to ask you for advice on the economic troubles...not because I want your leftie input, but uh, hehe, I want people to think that I can reach out to the left wing for ideas. So, you know, just lay it on me, and I'll, uh, take it under consideration."

See, stuff like this is the reason folks are still questioning Hill's motives. That McCain felt there was enough support there to even ask for her opinion at this very crucial time makes me question her loyalty to her party's ticket. Hillary Clinton is the one driving the speculation.

she has no control over who dials her number. What "motives" is that? Read the piece-- she "didn't engage him", she just heard him out and didn't respond. Geez, what was she supposed to do? A song and dance? Sacrifice a lamb? You people really need to get over your Cli nton paranoia.

I read the piece. McCain had already spoken to Bill Clinton and felt there was enough support there to call Hillary. Those are the motives I am questioning.
