Politico:

On Sept. 24, Hillary Rodham Clinton received a surprise phone call from the man she's often denounced as an economic know-nothing: John McCain.

This was no social call, even though Clinton likes McCain enough to keeps his photo on the wall of her Senate office. The GOP nominee had already chatted with Bill Clinton about the mortgage crisis and wanted to pick the senator's brain about her new proposal to have the federal government buy up bad mortgages and renegotiate terms more favorable to homeowners on verge of default.

"McCain said he had been motivated by it, he was very complimentary about what she had proposed and wanted to know more," said a person with knowledge of the call.

Clinton responded coolly: "She didn't engage him, she just said, 'Thank you' and heard him out."

Well, as usual, Sen. Clinton listened politely and said "thank you" while Bill chatted him up and gave him his talking points. Thank you Hillary; Bill, go take a vacation. A long one. By the way, anybody else read about McCain calling Joe Biden OLD?

From "The Trail" in the Washington Post:
At a glitzy fundraiser in New York Tuesday night, McCain sounded resigned about his position as the underdog against Sen. Barack Obama as the campaign enters its final few days.

"So we've come a long way, my friends, with just three weeks to go and, as you know, a big debate tomorrow night," he told the crowd at the ballroom in New York's Grand Hyatt.

"Listen," he said, as Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin stood next to him, "I want to do about half as good as Sarah did against poor old Joe Biden."

The Right wing attack machine has been grasping at straws ever since Obama has been the nominee.
They used all the Rev. Wright and Bill Ayers stuff like crazy to try and knock Barack out for Hillary.
Now they find they have nothing left to keep smearing Obama with.

By this time in the campaign they were supposed to be hammering on about Bill Clintons shady library fundings and ,God knows what else. The base was supposed to be fired up against Hillary Clinton and her running mate Barack Obama.

They have nothing. They know it. Operation Chaos blew up in thier faces.

They ended up with a pitbull in lipstick and Mccain the banking regulator.

Bring on the debate.

The only way McCain can hurt Barack would be to endorse his candidacy.

Let's see... I'm in a financial crisis and the first person I think of to call for advice is my friend who I know for a fact is in debt up to her eyeballs. This doesn't make a lick of sense!

It makes perfect sense if you're McCain.

And what does the precious "base" have to say about this?

Oh well ..... it's not like they caught Sarah reading a paleontology book or something equally unspeakable.

Gotta love those triangulating (interests for personal future ambition) Clintons!

As a New Yorker who wants a Democratic President and Congress, I do not endorse the JUNIOR Senator's triangulating interests, but realize it is who she and her husband are -- and, like Jesse Jackson -- they cannot be otherwise.

So, we in NYS have to endure a Senator who makes her own interests paramount -- and will continue to do Fox "News" interviews ("because they supported" her during the Primaries) -- and will advise the opposition ("because he is a friend").

New York, we are on our own. CT, you are too...for now.

McCain just playing head games with Obama. Just what can Hillary tell him, because he has already used a page out her playbook ( Mark Penn want to paint Obama as being un- American, remember Hillary memos), she decided not to use.

Mark Penn hired Karen Hughes (Bush propagandist and Karl Rove mentee) two weeks after NYers shut the Clinton Campaign down -- for Burston to execute the failed Clinton strategy for Sarah Palin (and John McCain). Burston reps both Hillary and Sarah, now.

This is no accident and McCain has been fusing his non-campaign w/Hillary's failed campaign, since the Summer. He has also co-opted the CHANGE theme/meme from Barack. Everything he is is co-opted by sitting on the sidelines and then hiring those who worked for others -- and stealing their ideas, strategies, etc. This is who HE is. McCain will steal an idea from you, right in front of you...so entitled he feels to everything you, I or anyone has...because of his POW status.

Howard Wolfson and Lanny Davis (Clinton Communications team) joined Karl Rove at Fox "News."

Stay tuned. More Clinton triangulation on deck...despite last weekend's performances. By Tuesday, yesterday, Hillary was interviewing on Fox "News" talking about...HER CAMPAIGN and validating/thanking Fox "News" for "supporting" her.

Gosh, here we go again.........Obama has been talking about green jobs from the onset; when did it become a rip-off of Hillary?

McCain in the last debate on the banks getting new mortgages for people in foreclosure: "It's not Senator Obama's idea, it's not President Bush's idea. It's mine". Don't mention the fact that Obama firstly wanted to include a renegotiated loan for those in foreclosure and attach it to the 700 million bailout, then decided against it as it might have stalled the bailout. McCain's plan does not renegotiate the loan as of last I heard so it is not the best scenario.

Now he calls Hillary.......hmmmmmm.....an attempt to appeal to her vanity/pride and get her supporters on his side again? Exactly who and where is his own advisory team? I smell a rat.

Wow, only a guy as ethically challenged as McCain could send out his wife and Sarah do his his d i r t y work while he's making sneaky phone calls to HRC. If I were Sarah or Cindy, I'd feel used.

Where's the upside in that, if true? She's not an economic sage so even if she wanted to undercut Obama she can't give him some great secret. The PUMAs either are stuck with him or defected back to the Dems. Republicans aren't going to like him more for again cozying to their nemisis. Surely this could only hurt not help him?

Hillary's final month of campaigning was dedicated to validating her friend, John McCain -- and providing audio/video clips for his Campaign.
