LOS ANGELES — Nancy Reagan suffered a broken pelvis in a fall at her home and will be hospitalized for several days, her spokeswoman said Wednesday. The 87-year-old former first lady fell last week, spokeswoman Joanne Drake said. She did not seek immediate medical care but decided Monday to get checked out because of persistent pain, Drake said.

Doctors at Ronald Reagan UCLA Medical Center determined she had a fractured pelvis and sacrum, the triangular bone at the base of the spinal column.

"She's in some pain but in very good spirits," Drake said.

Mrs. Reagan was undergoing physical therapy but surgery won't be required, Drake said. She will be hospitalized "for a few days _ until doctors are satisfied with her progress _ and then return home," Drake said in a statement.

Recovery is expected within six to eight weeks, she said.

Mrs. Reagan apparently got up in middle of the night and fell after twisting on her leg at her home in Bel-Air.

She was hospitalized three days in February after a similar fall at the hillside home she shared with President Reagan after their White House years. It was initially feared Mrs. Reagan broke her hip in that fall, but tests determined there was no fracture.

Reagan died June 5, 2004, after a 10-year battle with Alzheimer's disease.

She won't be able to gance fast but she'll still be able to dance. Positive thoughts to Mrs. Reagan and her caregivers. That cabin fever can be a bear. Try to laugh it helps a lot.

Dear Mrs, Reagan, I got grief in the 80s when I defended you to my like-minded liberal friends, since I said we should respect the office of the presidency and that of the First Lady. I didn't agree with you on anything, but I send my best for a speedy recovery. You really loved your husband and this country, and for that we can't fault you.

Although I loathed them politically, I truly admired her devotion to her husband and was deeply moved by the years she cared for him in his infirmity. My prayers are with you Mrs. Reagan.

Mrs. Reagan,

I'm so sorry you're going through such a painful and difficult injury. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Respectful hugs,
Heather

Best wishes to Nancy Reagan. A fractured pelvis is a very serious injury for a woman her age. She is still in a relatively early stage of grieving her husband's death and does not need this new challenge. Peace and healing be with you, Nancy!

Get well soon, Mrs. Reagan! The grace, love and devotion showed toward your sick husband was an example for all. Although I may not agree with you ideologically, I respect you as a woman of good heart and soul. I sincerely hope for a speedy recovery for you. Best Wishes!

Dear Mrs. Reagan,

Get well soon. I just finished three months mostly in ICU Orthopedics. I wish you all the very best.

Best wishes to Nancy. My 88-year-old mother broke her pelvis a year ago and is up and walking, not quite her former self, but still ambulating and doing everything she used to do.

Even though I was never a fan of her husband I wish Nancy a quick recovery.

I was not a big fan but have to hand it to Nancy for her unfailing devotion to her husband. I wish her well and a speedy recovery. I simply dote on her son, Ron.

I also didn't like her much during the Reagan Years, but also have grown to respect her. I know an 85 YO lady who broke her pelvis, recovered with PTherapy and then about 10 months later, fell and broke her hip and is now getting out of rehab for the partial hip replacement. It's not easy at any age, but certainly not when you are in your 80s.

Good luck, Nancy, and keep fighting with the class you showed when your husband got Alzheimers.

Every Debate and forum McCain talks about the Reagans. I'm never been a fan, but at the end of the day; everyone played nice, I believe that Mr. Reagan was "the Great Compromiser" We need more of that kind of leadership. I hope Nancy stays strong, and I send my best!

A Dem.

I was never a big REAGAN fan, Ronnie nor Nancy. But anyone that hates JOHN MCCAIN as does NANCY, is OK by me. I wish her well

I wish her a prompt and good recovery. In my book she's always been a fine lady.
My best wishes and prayers for her.

Excuse me? I thought she endorsed him?

It was the most terse, minimal damn-with-faint-praise "endorsement" I ever heard.

This was her endorsement:

"Ronnie and I always waited until everything was decided and then we endorsed. Well, obviously, this [McCain] is the nominee of the party."

The word "tepid" is an understatement.
