The Times Leader:

The agent in charge of the Secret Service field office in Scranton said allegations that someone yelled "kill him" when presidential hopeful Barack Obama's name was mentioned during Tuesday's Sarah Palin rally are unfounded.

The Scranton Times-Tribune reported the alleged incident on its Web site Tuesday and in its print edition Wednesday. The story, written by reporter David Singleton, included allegations that a man in the audience shouted "kill him" while congressional candidate Chris Hackett was addressing the crowd and mentioned Obama's name. News organizations including ABC and MSNBC's "Countdown with Keith Olbermann," as well as several Internet blogs, repeated the claim, with most attributing the allegations to The Times-Tribune.

We have too much to be excited about than this nonsense. Palin is out the door in a matter of moments.

It's sad to come to the point where you don't trust federal law enforcement, but under the Bush years they've given us enough cause not to, and I recently finished reading David Talbot's book on the Kennedy assassination, The Brothers, and was reminded that only one Secret Service agent assigned to protect Kennedy put his life on the line in Dallas on November 22, 1963.

who would have thought it. They can't find anyone that will bear witness to a threat being shouted at a McCain/Palin rally when they interview McCain/Palin supporters, therefore it must not have happened. Having republicans turn on their own is a rare event, so why should it be expected that it will happen here. Of course all the rabid righties are screaming that these people were Obama plants.... Kinda like that Plumber Joe guy....

John McCain is the master of lip-service whether it be to people of color viv-a-vis attacks on civil rights heroes, or to service veterans who somehow can't get McCain's support for a real, just and overdue G.I. Bill or to women's health issues which, in his view have been co-opted in the extreme by "pro abortion activists to include almost anything". As they say about boiling a frog (for soup or legs, I presume): if you put it in boiling water, it will hop out, but if you start it out in cold water, it will never notice the water heating up until it's too damn late.
Also, if these reports and videos of people at McPalin rallies shouting these epithets and threats is claimed to be unfounded by the Secret Service, why then does the Secret Service or the candidates find it necessary to block access of reporters to people in the crowd shouting these things? To keep our democracy in some semblance of working order, we have to be much more vigilant, not telling people to "get over it". Get over it? When your sports team-rooting mentality results in losses in liberties that we all took for granted and you find yourself pining for your long-gone privacy and personal sovereignty , how will you respond to the person who tells you to "get over it"?

The Bush-Chaney justice department looked into this. How reassuring.

It make me feel so secure that the Secret Service can't find any evidence of taped shouts threatening Obama, but the FBI can spend alls its resources on tracking down whether or not Mickey Mouse is registered to vote.

Funny how that works. If the comment had been made about McCain or Palin at an Obama rally the Feds would have moved in with anti-terrorist commandos and tanks.

What could their investigation have turned up that would dispute witnesses? If there were conclusive video of the rally, that would have made it on the news. This is fishy.
