Obama Racist Mailing

Press-Enterprise:

The latest newsletter by an Inland Republican women's group depicts Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama surrounded by a watermelon, ribs and a bucket of fried chicken, prompting outrage in political circles.

The October newsletter by the Chaffey Community Republican Women, Federated says if Obama is elected his image will appear on food stamps -- instead of dollar bills like other presidents. The statement is followed by an illustration of "Obama Bucks" -- a phony $10 bill featuring Obama's face on a donkey's body, labeled "United States Food Stamps."

What else have they got to run on but bigotry? The current repub campaign seems to be entirely based on the "Audacity of Dopes" who are fervently praying that there are still enough bigots to return them to the trough.

I grew up in the south of the early 60's. I remember separate water fountains marked "white" and "colored". As a child I never understood what it meant but somewhere in my being it made me fear. An angry dog bearing it's teeth and your mother is no where near. As I grew, some of my friends were afraid for us to be seen together. Why? It was a heavy, dense, anxiety floating in the air of the segregated south. It shaped me to a great degree. I remember, as a senior in high school, April 1968, afraid, but not hestitating, going into the schools office and firmly requesting they lower the flag for Dr. King. My effort was futile, but I had to do it.

Over the years, I had believed that we had made substantial progress. I knew racism still existed, but I believed that we had put those dark days of the early 60's behind us. Until now. The desperation of those that prefer to remain hidden, are outting themselves. The cute Obama ten dollar buck, the fear mongering Ayres association, the good and bad American inuendos, all bring me right back to my childhood, standing in front of those water fountains, and the fear.

Don't let up, people. Keep hitting these guys! They are going to pull out all the stops to try to squeak by and win this thing. Eternal vigilance, strong action, and loud voices. Let's go!

The creators of this obscene mailers suggest they didn't mean it to be racist.
This means.

They are stupid beyond all comprehension.

They are racists and liars.

They think everyone else is stupid beyond all comprehension.

I thought there were laws and penalties against hate crimes? I hope they are arrested
soon, in every sense of the world.

This is what we needed to come to light. We have been debating whether racism still exists in America for decades. Now everyone has the answer. It exists at the highest levels of government to the slums of Chicago. Racism exist within every ethnic group, it’s not just the GOP. But now that we have clear evidence what are we going to do about it? Are we going to continue to let our friends and family tell racist jokes without saying that it is wrong? Are we going to continue to dismiss employment applicants because they do not look like us, even if they are qualified? Are we going to continue to treat people as stereotypes? Now that we all know that Racism is alive and thriving in America what are we as individuals going to do about it.
If you voting against Sen. Obama because he does not look like you, then maybe this is your opportunity to take your first step away from the fear of the unfamiliar.
I am a 56 year old Black woman who has lived and worked in some of the most racism places in America, but what I have learned is that every person has the capacity to be better than the generation that came before it. I have to believe that we as a nation will rise above our fears of each other and make this country a haven for peace and prosperity for all.

I have been saying the EXACT same thing that you posted and I'm glad I'm not alone.
And we must STAND UP against racism especially among the people we know.
The problem is too many people would rather keep a friend than confront racism.

It seems had to believe that someone could be this obtuse (and I kind doubt that it's the case), BUT it's possible that she unconsciously produced this (from her repressed racism sterotyping), and didn't realize it while making it, but experienced a big "UH-OH", after she'd made it and released it. (Like that email where you experssed things you secretly (evem to yourself) felt and sent out, then went - Oh NO! Those kinds of things are impossible to explain to the media.

Ms. Diane Fedele
President, Chaffey Community Women's Federated
P. O Box 974
Upland, CA 91785

Dear Ms. Fedele,
You, madame, are a thoughtless, narrow-minded, biggot! How dare you pass off some ill-fated attempt at humor as anything but blantant racism. REALLY? SENATOR Barack Obama's picture, pasted on the body of a donkey, the centerpiece of a FOOD STAMP cartoon, surrounded by foods commonly associated with African Americans? THIS WENT OUT TO YOUR MEMBERS IN YOUR MONTHLY NEWSLETTER? ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Your position as President of the Republican Women's Federated of the Inland Empire has obviously gone to your tiny little head! Why don't you just call yourselves the Ku Klux Klan? ,

Is this your idea of political discourse? Perhaps you're just "chapped" because you won't be seeing Senator Mccain's face on a $2 dollar bill anytime soon?

You're entitled to your opinion in terms of who you support and vote for, Ms. Fedele, but as head of a Republican Organization, why don't you try to exude some class? Maybe 1/100th of the class and dignity that Barack Obama shows EVERYDAY when he takes the high road and will not comment on the racial slurs, denegrating remarks, and NOW even DEATH THREATS that are hurled at him by your party's supporters? YOU, MADAME are just one of the reasons why this WHITE GIRL will be proudly casting my vote for Senator Barack Obama on November 4th! Pass the ribs!!!

Sign me embarrassed for the GOP!

This is absolutely ridiculous. The word I would use for these women begins with a "c", but I'll be somewhat polite and not use it. You think this is bad though, it's gonna get ALOT worse. They are desperate to retain the power they have abused for so many years now. I belive that the attitude of the people that attend Palin rallys might escalade into violence.

I think it is so unfortunate when people say that African Americans are voting for Obama, simply because he is deemed African American. People that constantly say that African Americans are over-reacting or that they call everything racist are simply choosing not to look at these very real images. There isn't anything like this out there against JM. Nothing at all!

I think it is unfair to assume that the entire African American constituency is color blind. There are educated, hard working, middle class African Americans that are very clear on how to judge a man on the content of his character; especially because its so effortless for countless others to vote against them simply based on the color of their skin.

I believe in Senator Obama's agenda like no one before him and that is why he has my vote.

And I know how sad, hurtful, disturbing, and unforgettable it has to be to see these images day in and day out. I know that not all JM's supporters are this way but the ones that I have encountered here in Arizona and the ones depicted in the media, are just wrong. This behavior is unacceptable and wrong and the only way I know to fight it...is to get out and vote!

Please join me! Please!

I'm not worried about any "Obama Bucks."

I converted everything to Gold Eagles six months ago.

Pretty soon, gold will be worth $5,000/ounce.

Heh . . . . .

Still a slave

I haven't cried in a long time- but I shed tears listening to this hate being spewed at African Americans. Haven't we given enough of our men to hate- to lynch mobs- and for what? Sorry- I don't want to be a slave anymore- sorry- you don't treat me like a human being- you rape my mothers and sisters and daughters and hang and lock up my brothers and sons. What more do you want- you separate families and treat us like cattle?

I'm sorry I don't want to be a slave anymore- the harder I work the worse you treat me- They said now you're free- free to be raped, lynched, worked to death- free to be a share cropper where I don't get a share of the crop- free to go up north- to be treated just as bad- no jobs for blacks- the back bone of this country- but I'm laughed at- Blacks are lazy and they steal- but we can work sun up to sun down for hundreds of year and take it and take it and still stand proud of what we have become and still this is what we get in 2008.

STOP CRYING AND BUCK UP!

I see this stuff and it makes me stronger. I think even Black Americans forgot or choose of forget that racism exists. You live your daily lives and try to make the racist incidents individual to that racist person, and not symptom of America continued struggles towards multi-culturalism.

WELL, I FIGHT! I FIGHT FOR MYSELF, AND THIS COUNTRY! I'm fighting anyone, regardless of race, who wants to make America racially insensitive and dirty.

IF YOU INTERNALIZE THE HATE, THEN YOU'LL BECOME WHAT YOU FEAR! So what if those people feel that way about Obama and about Black folks? Sometimes its not about what we've done, but about what they have to believe to get by. Its a pity when someone has to believe that another person is less than in order to justify their own place in the world. I mean, honestly, what would it hurt for them to give Obama the benefit of the doubt? What would it hurt to take note of the non-Whites around them ('cause yall know we're everywhere!) who are just as good, honest, and hardworking Americans as they are?

Sometimes when you're poor and disinfranchised and ignorant of a world beyond your small town or neighborhood its comforting to think you're small part of the world is better than anywhere else, and that you are better than anyone else.

Like Mr. T said: I pity the fools!

i love how Fedele pulled the "i'm not racist i have black friends" card when she said she supported Alan Keyes. Maybe she wasn't racist then but she sure is racist now and she had the audacity to basically say that obama brought this on himself? yea ok...good one. i can't wait for obama to win so all the racists can move out of the country. Stephen Baldwin already said he's leaving they can all go with him.
