Joe Biden

Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden calls McCain a longtime friend, but he said Thursday the Republican presidential candidate just isn't himself at this stage of the campaign.

"He seems a little more angry than he usually is," Biden told Jay Leno on NBC's "The Tonight Show," after Leno said McCain was making odd facial expressions during his debate Wednesday night with Democrat Barack Obama.

"John doesn't seem comfortable right now," Biden added.

"I don't think John is comfortable with the negative stuff in the advertising" being run by his campaign, Biden said at another point.

Biden, a Delaware senator, made a brief stop on Leno's stage in Burbank on his way to a fundraiser in Los Angeles. The two chatted about the economic crisis, the Iraq war and developments on the campaign trail as Nov. 4 closes in.

Biden has a reputation for verbal gaffes, and he assured Leno he'd be providing more fodder for late-night talk shows. Leno ribbed him about a slip-up at a rally in Ohio on Wednesday, when Biden referred to "a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S."

"I suspect I'll make a whole lot more," Biden said.

He credited Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin with driving up viewership of their debate, the second most-watched political matchup ever.

"I was a bit player in that debate," Biden concluded.

The 65-year-old Biden joked about his age, while poking at McCain, 72, who if elected would become the oldest first-term American president.

"The only guy older than me is John," he said.

Asked about Biden's claim that McCain seemed a bit cranky, McCain campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said, "John McCain is a fighter.

"People are hurting, they are upset and they want answers, and John McCain is the candidate that understands," Gorka said.

Biden later attended an outdoor fundraiser in Los Angeles attended by several hundred people, where tickets cost up to $5,000 and members of the band Maroon 5 entertained the crowd.

He urged supporters not to be lulled into complacency by polls showing Obama with an edge and warned of an onslaught of negative ads from their rivals that would come in the closing days of the campaign.

"This is no time for us to get cocky," said Biden, who was introduced by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "We cannot take anything for granted."

Biden was very nice to Palin at the debate, and for good reason. He's a lot smarter than people give him credit for. I don't like his ties to the Fed, and as much as I like him as person, some of his financial dealings with the credit card companies make me nervous. That being said, Palin is not even close to being Biden's equal. She is a pathetic attempt to distract, distort the truth, and fire up the base. Well she did, but it was the wrong base.

GOBAMA!

You must have been 1 of the 1100 votes Biden got "Nationwide" in the primary...

Question If the ticket were Biden & Hillary would still vote for em????

Or no?

Nope, I'd vote Ron Paul. Hillary would be more of the same old politics.

Yeah, Hillary would be just the same as usual in the White House. Thats why her political supporters took it so hard when she lost. They already had plans to do business as usual.

Joe is probably the only Senator who commutes from his home state every day, and one of only a few who haven't used their position to become millionaires and would still qualify as middle-class. He's smart -- and tough when he needs to be. Is he long-winded? At times, yes. Is he "Mr. Washington?" No way, no how -- I know because I'm in the great Commonwealth of Pennsylvania where Joe was born and where most of think of him as our third Senator. Neither of the GOP candidates running this year can measure up to him -- he's a politician and by definition imperfect, but he's one of brightest and best of the breed imo.

I admire, respect, and love you, Mr. Biden. Gaffes or not, you're an elected official who is as down to earth as they come, and I am proud to have you speaking on my behalf.

Ok lets roll this Biden Blog.... I'm ready ..

My Opinion, I do have a right to one because this is America... just checking..... .

In my opinion maybe Obama is on the DL like Magreevy was over in Jersey and even My Momma think Obama gonna dump that woman as soon as he losses the election but thats another story....

So now Back to Biden a.k.a "the Washington Windbag" Mr. Biden and the Obamakins... Pleeeezz stop cheering on Biden cause you all look stupid we all know if he was the Nominee for Pres. instead of Obama none of you would be voting for him. So now stop the nonsense stuck on stupid.. ...

None of ya voted for him in the Primary & Lord have Mercy stop the fibbin about how much you all love this man....

So Mr. Biden you "Washington WindBag" just accept it go get lost and maybe go look for that Diner you kept talking about during the debate you know Joe the one they boarded up 25 years ago...

Umm... Hummm.. there ya have it Mr. Biden the " Washington Windbag" trying to get the working people to know that he understands and knows where we coming from because he remembers a Diner that hasn't been functioning for like 2 decades !!!! There ya go Joe it's Your VP nominee at his best sharp as a tack.......

Actually, a lot of us do like Biden.
Many Dems may have thought he wouldn't win, so they didn't vote for him, and/or preferred another candidate.
Unlike the Reps who didn't have ONE viable candidate.
Come on Palin?! She couldn't run a cafeteria.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:47 PM on 10/17/2008

I didn't vote for Biden because Obama was his opposition. The Democrats had a good field of candidates all good for the country, unlike the R's who had a field full of religious nuts of various persuasions, wingnuts and McSame. Stay the course man, look where it got you, eh?

Biden ran for president once before and was proven to be willing to stand down when he was proven wrong. Unlike again, McSame and his fearless leader, your Criminal-in-Chief and misleader of the "free" world, George. I want a guy who understands reality and who genuinely wants to do a good job for the people of this formerly great nation. What do you want? An angry old man and a power mad successionist?

Shame on you for even considering them to lead us. Shame on you for accepting the folly foisted on all of us for these last 8 years.

It's time for major regime change.

I'd vote for Joe Biden, gaffes and all, in a New York minute over any of the political midgets who ran in this uear's pitiful GOP primaries -- and especially over somebody foolish or desperate enough to select the laughable Gov. Milfy McSnowshoe as his running mate. Game over.

Yes you have a right to your opinion and I have a right to disagree. Some of your statements are so ignorant they don't require an intelligent response. Biden dropped out before most people could vote for him. I liked him and it was a choice between Biden and Obama for me.
I have no idea what you mean about the Diner. So he remembers an old Diner. What is your point. McCain talks about the past all the time.

Also, he picked Biden, beat Hillary, has a degree, won the Senate seat.

He beat the most entrenched and well-funded political machine in the country for starters. He represented an Illinois State Senate district with a larger population than the entire state of Alaska, and has acquitted himself quite adequately as a freshman U.S. Senator, especially when you consider that he's essentially been running for president for his entire term.

Let me make this simple for you, MADeline: his career parallels that of another relatively inexperienced presidential candidate from Illinois who won the office nearly 150 years ago, except that he is a far better educated and has actually put in more time as a legislator in both Springfield and Washington DC. Oh, one more thing: that other candidate's name was Abraham Lincoln.

He has managed a brilliant campaign getting millions of us involved, hopeful and optimistic. He has expressed hope again for a solution focussed government. He believes that those who work for the government from the President down to the clerk in the Post Office are public servants. He knows how to communicate and organize. He is a brilliant orator and constituional lawyer-that is what he will accomplish! for the future-not just the past.

He's also not listed in the Toledo phonebook.
