Joe Biden

Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden calls McCain a longtime friend, but he said Thursday the Republican presidential candidate just isn't himself at this stage of the campaign.

"He seems a little more angry than he usually is," Biden told Jay Leno on NBC's "The Tonight Show," after Leno said McCain was making odd facial expressions during his debate Wednesday night with Democrat Barack Obama.

"John doesn't seem comfortable right now," Biden added.

"I don't think John is comfortable with the negative stuff in the advertising" being run by his campaign, Biden said at another point.

Biden, a Delaware senator, made a brief stop on Leno's stage in Burbank on his way to a fundraiser in Los Angeles. The two chatted about the economic crisis, the Iraq war and developments on the campaign trail as Nov. 4 closes in.

Biden has a reputation for verbal gaffes, and he assured Leno he'd be providing more fodder for late-night talk shows. Leno ribbed him about a slip-up at a rally in Ohio on Wednesday, when Biden referred to "a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S."

"I suspect I'll make a whole lot more," Biden said.

He credited Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin with driving up viewership of their debate, the second most-watched political matchup ever.

"I was a bit player in that debate," Biden concluded.

The 65-year-old Biden joked about his age, while poking at McCain, 72, who if elected would become the oldest first-term American president.

"The only guy older than me is John," he said.

Asked about Biden's claim that McCain seemed a bit cranky, McCain campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said, "John McCain is a fighter.

"People are hurting, they are upset and they want answers, and John McCain is the candidate that understands," Gorka said.

Biden later attended an outdoor fundraiser in Los Angeles attended by several hundred people, where tickets cost up to $5,000 and members of the band Maroon 5 entertained the crowd.

He urged supporters not to be lulled into complacency by polls showing Obama with an edge and warned of an onslaught of negative ads from their rivals that would come in the closing days of the campaign.

"This is no time for us to get cocky," said Biden, who was introduced by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "We cannot take anything for granted."

"Joe The Plumber",as Keith Olberman brought to our attention last night.....is NOT a plumber, but a contractor! He made about $40,000 last year...which would give him about 3 times the tax breaks under Obama than McCain!. HE IS NOT INTERESTED IN BUYING THAT COMPANY,according to its owner!! That company made about $100K last year......NOT between $250-280K!! IT WOULD NOT BR TAXED INDER OBASMA'S PLAN.....BUT ITS EMPLOYEES WOULD BE TAXED ON THEIR HEALTH CARE BENEFITS....IF McCAIN WON THE ELECTION!!! SO MUCH FOR ANOTHER 'PUT UP JOB" BY THE GOP......BECAUSE THIS GUY HAS BEEN ALL OVER RIGHT WING RADIO FOR OVER A MONTH!!! PUTTING COUNTRY LAST......McCAIN AND THE GOP!!!

Way to go, Joe. Loved his line exposing Faux the Plumber: "I'm worried about a real plumber. One that actually has a license."

Another REACTIONARY plant at a Obama event that just didn't work.

Maybe in the last 2 weeks they can hold REACTIONARY-AID and have all their "special" guests: Crazy "Obama is an Arab" Lady, Joe the Plumber, "Unlucky" Levi Johnston, all the "Kill Him" closet Klansman, the guy holding the Curious George monkey, the maybe-drunk lady who said she had read about Sarah Palin THREE YEARS AGO. Gollum from The Lord of the Rings can be the Maaaaster of Ceremonies. I just hope, sort of like at the original Woodstock, he warns their crowd that "there's some bad Metamucil being passed around.

Joe Biden is an affable likable fellow. As the saying goes, a guy you'd prefer to have a beer with over the other party's candidate.

That of course has little to do with his qualifications for elected office. And is no reason to vote for him.

Beyond those qualities, Joe has demonstrated the ability to think and a reasonably good commitment to the little guy.

Those are the qualities on which he should be judged as a potential VP or President.

"Joe has demonstrated the ability to think and a reasonably good commitment to the little guy."

I was SO PROUD of Barack Obama's closing comments last night at the Alfred E. Smith dinner...

"In this country there are millions of fellow citizens who need us very much...especially now. We are being battered by a very serious economic storm, and for many Americans it's only deepened the quiet storm they've been struggling through for years. Beyond the walls of this hotel, on the streets of one of the greatest cities in the wealthiest nation on earth, are men, women and children who have fallen on hard times and hard luck, who can't find work or even a job that pays enough to keep a roof over their heads, and some are hanging on just by a thread. The Scripture says "God creates us for works of service". We are blessed to have so many organizations like this one that perform these acts of God every day. But EACH OF US also have that responsibility and obligation...especially now. Al Smith was a man who fought for many years to give Americans nothing more than a FAIR shake and a chance to succeed, and he touched the lives of millions as a result. HE HELPED PEOPLE, and that's a distinction WE CAN ALL aspire to."

OBAMA/BIDEN '08!
HOPE and CHANGE WE CAN BELIEVE IN!!!

Yeah his was a real funny more self depracating speech with a fantastic Moral ending.
McCain's speech was funny but you get the feeling that the Digs he said he meant and not as a joke, even though Obama was laughing like it was a joke.

The Main thing is that Joe is Sincere, and he really is a nice guy.

The republicans overwhelmingly are just plain not nice people. McCain may be uncomfortable with his campaign's tactics, but hes still going along with it, hes still pushing it on the stump speeches, hes still got surrogates and a running mate that are still pushing inappropriate, false and personally attacking lies at the dems, and obviously encouraging their ardent political supporters of supreme ignorance to keep spreading the lies and attacks.
No repudiation at all except that ONE instance at the one rally with the again.... supremely ignorant woman that said he was an arab and to be afraid of him as president.

Yeah, I knew a guy who was really uncomfortable about beating his wife.

Not uncomfortable to do anything about it, but uncomfortable so he said.

I suppose in some books he's a moral hero.

Not in mine.

I love Joe! He's the one who epitomizes "straight talk express" and can discuss any policy with keen intelligence. He has both grace and wit :) I was delighted when Barak selected him.

Wow, the contrast between Joe Biden and Sarah Palin is just stunning. Joe seems like someone you could be sitting next to having a conversation with in a diner.

Sarah Palin seems to come with her own "undisclosed location."

He has SAID he's angry. If he's not angry, why is he making the grimaces, the wide eyed open mouthed angry looking stares? He sure looks angry.
