Joe Biden

Democratic vice presidential nominee Joe Biden calls McCain a longtime friend, but he said Thursday the Republican presidential candidate just isn't himself at this stage of the campaign.

"He seems a little more angry than he usually is," Biden told Jay Leno on NBC's "The Tonight Show," after Leno said McCain was making odd facial expressions during his debate Wednesday night with Democrat Barack Obama.

"John doesn't seem comfortable right now," Biden added.

"I don't think John is comfortable with the negative stuff in the advertising" being run by his campaign, Biden said at another point.

Biden, a Delaware senator, made a brief stop on Leno's stage in Burbank on his way to a fundraiser in Los Angeles. The two chatted about the economic crisis, the Iraq war and developments on the campaign trail as Nov. 4 closes in.

Biden has a reputation for verbal gaffes, and he assured Leno he'd be providing more fodder for late-night talk shows. Leno ribbed him about a slip-up at a rally in Ohio on Wednesday, when Biden referred to "a three-letter word: jobs. J-O-B-S."

"I suspect I'll make a whole lot more," Biden said.

He credited Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin with driving up viewership of their debate, the second most-watched political matchup ever.

"I was a bit player in that debate," Biden concluded.

The 65-year-old Biden joked about his age, while poking at McCain, 72, who if elected would become the oldest first-term American president.

"The only guy older than me is John," he said.

Asked about Biden's claim that McCain seemed a bit cranky, McCain campaign spokesman Rick Gorka said, "John McCain is a fighter.

"People are hurting, they are upset and they want answers, and John McCain is the candidate that understands," Gorka said.

Biden later attended an outdoor fundraiser in Los Angeles attended by several hundred people, where tickets cost up to $5,000 and members of the band Maroon 5 entertained the crowd.

He urged supporters not to be lulled into complacency by polls showing Obama with an edge and warned of an onslaught of negative ads from their rivals that would come in the closing days of the campaign.

"This is no time for us to get cocky," said Biden, who was introduced by Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa. "We cannot take anything for granted."

God I'm glad Leno dropped that little "Joe the plumber" bomb. This so called plumber is not a registered plumber but he is a registered republican. I can't understand the Huff post isn't making more of a deal out of this. He's obviously a repub stooge and is way to eloquent for a "plumber"!

Tap dances better that Sammy Davis Jr? omg c'mon he even talks like a republican!

Joe "the plumber" is neither a plumber nor a taxpayer.

He is also a relative of Robert Wurzelbacher, who happens to be Keatings son-in-law. Imagine that ! Gee, McCain must have thought people wouldn't check into this guys background. Imagine that ! Anyone else get their robo call. Got mine here in Wisc.

Actually, I don't think he's a registered rethuglickan either...and he doesn't seem to pay his taxes anyway, so why is he so concerned if Obama raises them (not that he IS of course, but I'm just looking at the hypocrisy here

Yes, Joe is very, very cool and very, very likable. His gaffes make him seem buffoonish but he IS entertaining. I do think there is a reason he's never been able to get anywhere in the Presidential runs he's participated in.

Gaffes or no gaffes, Joe Biden does not have a mean bone in his body. He is a thoroughly decent guy who will be a great VP.

I love Joe!!!! My son with Autism loves Obama and Biden so much!!! He thinks Palin and McCain are mean. I don't even let him watch their speeches anymore because they are so negative. I see kids in their audiences and think, "What parent would take their child to a hatefull ralley like that?!"

We are so lucky. We picked well, didn't we? I can't wait to see Barack's administration. I bet they are itching to get this show on the road, too.

And like Obma says when we boo at his rallies, "Don't boo, vote."

Remember, Friends don't let friends vote on provisional ballots.

If you have minority friends or family please encourage them to make sure they are registered properly with their ID, registration, and spelling all the same. DMV will issue temporary IDs and DLs with your current address you registered under. Rove's last caging list had minorities and military folks on it.

Vote early because the RNC lawyers aren't at the county clerks office to suppress your vote, yet. Take friends.

Yes we can!

Ask Mr Biden what he's done to protect the blue collar jobs in Delaware he so covets---i.e, Chrysler and General Motors. I certainly dont blame him that they are leaving but they are leaving under his watch. Hopefully, Obamas politburo will allow us our status as a banking center

Ask Mr. McCain what he has done to save American jobs. I can almost quote him, " I screwed up."
he has said that he voted for Bush ideas over 90% of the time. He has also said I am the bigest free trader of all! and was happy.
Just who the hell is this man? Someone that just does not think like the American people.
yeah, the ones that need to move to China for work.

Even though the "I screwed up" remark was referring to his letterman gig, that is his problem - he acts first and thinks later...he screws up a LOT.
He even said so himself in his book!

He definitely can't be blamed for what is going on in the auto industry. This is not a "dig" on Delaware, but Delaware is just a blip on the map with regards to the auto industry...Detroit, Indiana, Chicago, Ohio...now those states are really feeling the pain...these states entire economy is centered around how well the auto industry does.

But rest assured, if Obama/Biden get elected, I think it will all turn around and then even the state of Delaware will benefit from the auto industry's comeback.

McCain is a good person...really he is...you can tell that he doesn't feel comfortable about the way his campaign is going...but above all he wants to WIN...and that will be at any cost...the problem is however, McCain has not put together a cohesive plan that is going to turn the economy around and help the little people.

I will be in that category of folks that will have to pay the higher taxes under Obama's plan...but I don't mind...I wasn't always in that category...and I know so many more people who are not in that category and they are hurting right now. Obama and Biden are our real hope to move this economy back in the right direction.

Vote Obama/Biden Novemeber 4, 2008 --- or earlier if you can!!!

R president eight years.

R congress twelve years.

D congress two years unable to override vetoes.

Do you think Biden can do miracles? The R so-called free trade has sent way too many jobs overseas and it's going to take time to turn the ship around.
