Madonna

The night after her divorce from Guy Ritchie was confirmed, Madonna slammed the "emotionally retarded" at during her Sticky & Sweet tour. Performing in Boston, Madonna introduced the song "Miles Away" (about a couple who grow apart) by saying, "This song is for the emotionally retarded. You might know a few people who fall into that category - god knows I do."

The video is grainy, but you can hear her say it: (Scroll for the song's lyrics)

Lyrics to the song "Miles Away":
I just woke up from a fuzzy dream
You never would believe those things that I had seen
I looked in the mirror and I saw your face
You looked right through me, you were miles away

All my dreams they fade away
I'll never be the same
If you could see me the way you see yourself
I can't pretend to be someone else

You always love me more, miles away
I hear it in your voice, we're miles away
You're not afraid to tell me, miles away
I guess we're at our best when we're miles away

So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away

When no one's around then I have you here
I begin to see the picture, it becomes so clear
You always have the biggest heart,
When we're six thousand miles apart

Too much of no sound
Uncomfortable silence can be so loud
Those three words are never enough
When it's long distance love

You always love me more, miles away
I hear it in your voice, we're miles away
You're not afraid to tell me, miles away
I guess we're at our best when we're miles away

So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away
So far away

I'm alright, don't be sorry, but it's true
When I'm gone you'll realize
That I'm the best thing that happened to you

You always love me more, miles away
I hear it in your voice, we're miles away
You're not afraid to tell me, miles away
I guess we're at our best when we're miles a-a-away...

You always love me more, miles away
I hear it in your voice, we're miles away
You're not afraid to tell me, miles away
I guess we're at our best when we're miles away

So far away

And she's a terrible person too. I knew an extra in the movie where Madonna was a yoga instructor or whatever and she said that she really wanted to report that Madge was cool but the truth was that she was every bit as nasty as one would imagine. She had one of the extras removed for making eye contact with her.

15 year olds screaming to a woman who needs to wear more than just underwear...

How much did it cost to get that not-so-primo seat, anyway? $300?

Wow, to Express Yourself is the Vogue thing to do...

One thing's for sure: She is no Ray of Light.

I USED TO THINK THAT MADONNA’s move from sexpot to intergalactic hippie after daughter Lourdes was born had finally humanized the diva. I thought that she finally gotten over herself. After all, children are usually good at upending one's vanity.

I thought Guy was a good match. The fake British accent Madge affected after marrying Ritchie and moving to London was ridiculous, but at least she seemed finally stable for her kids. Now that charade seems just another chapter in her book -- or should I say documentary, as she is ever so fond of videotaping herself.

IAt 50, Madonna is really just too old for this current stunt. I'm not sure we care to see her newest metamorphosis if it means sloughing off responsibility for her children. As the chameleon changes colors yet again, it’s her children who have to adjust to the background. Perhaps Madonna doesn’t know herself at the core; more likely, she doesn’t have a core.

That is alot of conjecture about someone you know nothing about. Her mothering skills have never seriously been questioned. Her kids are some of the brightest, polite, and happy kids. Anyone who knows her, even her detractors, concede that.

Why should she stop doing what she is doing? Because she is 50? And a woman? I have never in my life seen people this concerned about a man who is 50 doing similar or worse things. Never. Yet I see scores of people telling Madonna how she should act at 50. Its a gender thing. Its mysogynist. And it wont work.

She has never been addicted to drugs, been in rehab or had a nervous breakdown in her career. I would say she is doing something right.

Sure CGA, if that's the measure of "doing something right".

You don't give an inch, do you? You know, you'd be more credible if you conceded the honest place from which some of the Madonna criticism comes.

She is not "over 50" working as a teacher or a doctor. She is over 50 trying to perform in ways that really only suit a younger body. She rose to the top by pushing and mastering her physical presentation, but that's not a formula that works for even the most in-shape 50-year-old body, and when someone attempts it, people are going to look and laugh. That doesn't make Madonna the devil. On the other hand, people who increasingly find her ridiculous aren't blameworthy, either.

It's totally fine if you like Madonna and think she's great. Many people like myself find her annoying. The reason she's famous is because of her determination to be famous. I believe she's interested in fame, not music. Music was her way of getting there. The rest of it was clothing or the lack of and trying to push peoples buttons on social issues. If that's talent, okay. It's not musical talent. I think of Madonna more like a bad accident. You hate to look but sometimes it's hard not to... and you wish someone would clean it up and move it out of the way.

According to?????? You?????

Because according to critics, you know, the people who actually know what they are talking about, she is regarded as a great songwriter( David Foster called her one of the best, as did Rick Knowles), she has played guitar, keyboards and drums since 1979, she sings the majority of her songs live, and whether or not she sucks is up to an individual to decide.

What is with the brittleness of Madonna fanatics being utterly intolerant of those who honestly dislike her? This isn't a Madonna fan site. Your attempt to invalidate the free speech of others is bizarre.

Since you think she sucks, you have obviously never picked up one of her CDs and looked at the writing credits - she DOES write or co-write most of her own music - like her or not!

You know nothing about the music business. People like Ozzy Osbourne also use ghost writers to give themselves credibility. Madonna hires people who basically do all the work until she shows up. FACT.

On September 11, 2008, Madonna performed to a sell-out crowd of over 74,000 fans and a gross of over $12 million USD and surpassed all previous grosses at both the old and the new Wembley Stadiums. [21] This record breaking performance adds another first, following the Zurich performance in front of 72,000 fans was the largest audience ever for a concert in Switzerland. [21]. The Lisbon date with 75,000 fans made the biggest concert ever in Iberian Peninsula [22] and one of the biggest crowd of Sticky & Sweet Tour. The two shows in Mexico City on November 29th and 30th sold out in record time also. [21]Also, Madonna's show in Montenegro was performed to more than 47,000, the biggest-ever event held in the small Adriatic republic. [23]

No one ever said she didn't win the popularity contest. But most grown-ups I know let that go after high school. I've stated on several occasions that Madonna is to be revered for her staying power in a sea of 80's acts that have been long forgotten, but to suggest this has anything to do with musical prowess and not the usual pop music fashion show circus is absurd.

Your constant claim that she "plays" guitar, keys, and drums falls on deaf ears as well. The only times I've ever heard her play an instrument, it's been the most rudimentary campfire chords while an actual guitarist plays the parts (usually off camera). First position "strum-along" does not a guitar player make. A 10 year old can accomplish this, but I wouldn't say they can "play guitar". Keys and drums I've never seen. The burden of proof lies with the claimant (you). Also, as a 30 year (nearly retired) professional musician, one of the things I found hardest to get over was the fact that my objective musical opinion carried no more weight than anybody else's. But it's true. The same goes for David Foster and whoever. At the end of the day, we've only our own opinion. And this is merely mine.

It's OK to be a fan of an artist, as you obviously are, but your adulation borders on delusion. Yet, you are entitled to your thoughts.

Ever since Madonna said she'd "kick Sarah Palin's ass," I have become a fan of Madonna's once again. No, Madge ain't perfect. Yes, Madonna has a classic case of Narcissism going and no doubt she can do some real nasties on people -- so who's perfect?? And by the way I dig older women who work out hard and strive to look like a teen into their later years. Why the hell not??

I'm old enough to remember when she was a brand new artist on the scene. She's a master at marketing and that's pretty much it, much like Gene Simmons. I have a feeling the 2 of them will be around for a long time because of those marketing talents.

According to critics, Madonna has artistic merit in spades. I think they know more than you do about what is considered good. She has 2 albums considered masterpieces by critics( Like a Prayer and Ray of Light). She has 4 others considered great( First Album, True Blue, Music, Confession On a Dance Floor). She is widely considered a gifted songwriter. Acclaimedmusic website, the most comprehensive critics compilation in the world, ranks her as the 3rd most CRITCIALLY acclaimed female singer of all time. Only behind Aretha Franklin and Joni Mitchell.

What you said, DeeW. Never liked her much, though you've got to hand it for her for sheer grit. I do think it's bad form to use the stage as a platform to slag off your ex, though.

I used to be in a real minority at school because everyone around me used to go on about how hot Madonna was and I didn't fancy her. She's always had this cold, diamond hardness that I find really off-putting. She's like a spider that'll bite your head off after sex. No thanks.

See I can actually have a good convo with someone like you. You didn't feel the need to slam her. You articulated your position well. And I agree with you about her coldness. It is the one quality about her I do find off-putting. She has built up these walls around her I presume so she won't get hurt. I do think she is very beautiful but she does hold people at a distance.

It sounds like she's suffering. And she's angry and got a bone to pick. But I have to wonder why so publicly. And why exclusively anger and not other emotions like sadness aren't portrayed. I have a theory. Her music if carefully examined has her as victor or triumphant over the adversity in love. Madonna rules, so to speak, and she'll come out ahead every time. There's no real range of experience in that portrait . I"m guessing art is mirroring life in her inability to surrender in a healthy relationship. That's if her star persona matches her private one. I'm betting it does.

All I know is Madonna not only will be divorcing Guy, she will now divorce Mother England. I think the Brits will be happy to see the back of her. Madonna, needs to realise that the wheel no longer needs to be reinvented. I really don't want to see her scrawney body in tights anymore. I love the likes of Tina Turner who have style and class - at least she doesn't need to give the audience a view of her crotch.

Is that all you see in a Madonna performance? Are you really that shallow? Watch The Confessions Tour DVD and come back and tell me that you think the woman in that concert is merely tryng to be exhibitionistic with no higher moral, artistic, or spiritual purpose. The stupidity of some of the responses here is very disconcerting, but then again the entire blog was prompted by her statement that she knows a few people who are emotionally retarded, and those are the types of people who seem to have come out of the woodwork on huffingtonpost to tell us every dumb opinion on Madonna that they've ever wanted to voice. It wouldn't be so bad if the responses had any novelty to them, but this is the type of reaction she's been getting for 20 years now. She's survived before. I'm sure she'll survive now.

Madonna was relevant maybe 20-25 years ago...now she is an afterthought...her nastiness to her fans is ridiculous, telling people not to sit during her concert...listen, tramp, if someone's paying 300 dollars to see you prance around in clothes a woman half your age should be wearing, don't tell ANYBODY what to do, OK?

She has always disrepected her fans and cared about only thing: herself...the height of selfishness and self-absorption...that's why I stopped being a fan, of which I use to be a giant one.

There is nothing wrong with raunch or Tina Turner. Infact I love TT. What I don't like is Madonna flashing her tits and ass everytime she sells a record. Again over and time again Madonna is obsessive with being provactive or for what - just to sell another single? I mean how many times can you come out. I don't mind some of her songs and I must admit some are catchy but I guess I am just over her. The marketing machine needs to be switched off. For instance that kiss scene with Britney at the Grammy or MTV awards - You know the dominatrix character of Madonna's with that stick a couple of years ago - Is there a character this artist has not covered? Its probably like the way I feel about the Rolling Stones - who wants to see them in concert anymore - they all look like they're 6 foot under. Then again if you gave me a ticket to see ACDC or Led Zepplin there is no way I would say no.

Miss Turner suffered greatly under the thumb of her abusive husband, Ike. When she finally found the courage to leave him, she blossomed into an incredibly talented solo act. She had been through the wringer and emerged a confident, beautiful woman. She is NOT raunchy at all.

I don't know where you get your information, Cowgirl, but you are one dedicated Madge fan, I'll give you that.

And what kids would madonna entertain? Pre-School for hookers?
