MESILLA, N.M. — Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden mocked rival Sarah Palin's comment in North Carolina that she loves visiting "pro-America" parts of the country, arguing that the entire nation is patriotic.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have never been to a state that hasn't sent its sons and daughters to serve its country," Biden said Friday in New Mexico as the crowd booed Palin's reported comments. "It doesn't matter where you live, we all love this country. And I hope it gets through that one of the reasons why Barack (Obama) and I are running is that we know how damaging the policy of division ... has been.

"We are one nation, under God, indivisible," Biden shouted to the crowd. "We are all patriotic, we all love this country."

According to published reports, Palin told a North Carolina fundraiser Thursday that the best of America was not in Washington, D.C., but in small towns like the one in Alaska where she served as mayor.

"Being here with all of you hardworking, very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation. This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans," the Republican vice presidential candidate said.

The Obama campaign issued a news release asking reporters what part of the country isn't pro-America.

While campaigning in New Mexico, Biden said Republican presidential nominee John McCain "has been bequeathed tactics of Karl Rove in the last few weeks" and warned that the final days of the campaign will get ugly.

Addressing a crowd of several hundred in the Old Mesilla plaza, Biden urged supporters to ignore what they hear from McCain and concentrate on the change that the Democratic ticket promises. "You're going to see some really tough stuff," Biden said.

New Mexico has become a critical battleground state where Democrats see a real shot of making up the narrow gap that gave the state to President Bush in 2004.

Biden said fewer than 6,000 votes separated Bush and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry in the last election, a gap that could easily be made up with a strong showing in early voting.

"Our job isn't going to be done until you cast your ballot," Biden said. "It's going to take all of us here today."

What part of the country is not "Pro-America"? The answer is obvious.

Alaska.

lol... well of course. Any state that wants to be removed from the country can't be patriotic.

These comments by Sarah palin are not campaign rhetoric; they are core beliefs.

And they are repugnant--most likely even to John McCain, who will now live with the campaign he has waged for the rest of his life.

If Biden is tired of the unpatriotic label being assigned to some liberals, then the liberals should stop acting unpatriotic--blaming America for 9/11, worrying about the legal rights of detained terrorists while de-funding the troops, favoring European socialism over our capitalist system, etc, etc.........

The fact that Sarah Palin is a hunter scares me, because people like her should NOT be allowed to obtain a gun. Seriously, Mel Gibson in Lethal Weapon was stable compared to her.

Ditto. Unstable mind like her, people don't even know what and when comes out from her mouth, forget about her gun(s). People love Joe Biden, Mr. Vice-President.

If you haven't figured out who Palin was talking about when she gave her shout out to the GOP right wing extremists, "We believe that the best of America is in these small towns that we get to visit, and in these wonderful little pockets of what I call the real America, being here with all of you hard working very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation," then you haven't been following this election very closely.

The entire purpose for Palin being on the McCain ticket is to whip up as much venom and hatred for all things Democrat that she can. Take a look at the state poll numbers in the solid red state Dixie. They all have McCain leading by double digits. Add in states with 1% or fewer black population like Utah, Idaho and Wyoming and there you have the "Pro-America" area Palin is talking about.

The more racist, the more they are likely to vote for McCain-Palin. After all, McCain voted against making Martin Luther King a national holiday for one reason only -- his contempt for blacks in America.

The other states, the blue states, well, they're all anti-America according to Sarah Palin. To Palin: keep on spouting the Limbaugh hatred because you're strengthening your bona fides with the constituency that may well launch your foray into a presidential run in 2012. By then, however, your solid red base will be considerably smaller than it is today.

These are the typical FOX News viewes, Rush Limbaugh listeners that Sarah Palin is appealing to. Most of them may be basically decent people, but have been so bombarded with GOP propoganda, disguised as "Patriotism", that the result is this "Us vs.Them" attitude toward their fellow Americans.

United we stand, divided we fall.

Patrick Henry used the phrase in his last public speech, given in March 1799, in which he denounced The Kentucky and Virginia Resolutions. Clasping his hands and waving his body back and forth, Henry declaimed, “Let us trust God, and our better judgment to set us right hereafter. United we stand, divided we fall. Let us not split into factions which must destroy that union upon which our existence hangs.”

One of our most infamous dividers Joe McCarthy used virtually the same rhetoric. His tactics were rejected in our great country as were the witch trials in Salem...when will we learn?

Which highly-respected American of the past said that patriotism is the last refuge of a scoundrel? Was it John Adams?

You can always tell when someone's been developing all their thoughts from within the neocon believer cocoon. It seeps out inevitably. The results of their ideology has been irrelevant to them.

I guess us DC, Maryland, NoVA residents are anti-american because we support democrats. Even if we are the home of the National Institute of Health, the Library of Congress, The Pentagon, oh and what are those things called like the White House and Congress? I mean who needs those. Lets just kick us blue states out of the union!
