MESILLA, N.M. — Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden mocked rival Sarah Palin's comment in North Carolina that she loves visiting "pro-America" parts of the country, arguing that the entire nation is patriotic.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have never been to a state that hasn't sent its sons and daughters to serve its country," Biden said Friday in New Mexico as the crowd booed Palin's reported comments. "It doesn't matter where you live, we all love this country. And I hope it gets through that one of the reasons why Barack (Obama) and I are running is that we know how damaging the policy of division ... has been.

"We are one nation, under God, indivisible," Biden shouted to the crowd. "We are all patriotic, we all love this country."

According to published reports, Palin told a North Carolina fundraiser Thursday that the best of America was not in Washington, D.C., but in small towns like the one in Alaska where she served as mayor.

"Being here with all of you hardworking, very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation. This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans," the Republican vice presidential candidate said.

The Obama campaign issued a news release asking reporters what part of the country isn't pro-America.

While campaigning in New Mexico, Biden said Republican presidential nominee John McCain "has been bequeathed tactics of Karl Rove in the last few weeks" and warned that the final days of the campaign will get ugly.

Addressing a crowd of several hundred in the Old Mesilla plaza, Biden urged supporters to ignore what they hear from McCain and concentrate on the change that the Democratic ticket promises. "You're going to see some really tough stuff," Biden said.

New Mexico has become a critical battleground state where Democrats see a real shot of making up the narrow gap that gave the state to President Bush in 2004.

Biden said fewer than 6,000 votes separated Bush and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry in the last election, a gap that could easily be made up with a strong showing in early voting.

"Our job isn't going to be done until you cast your ballot," Biden said. "It's going to take all of us here today."

This is Rove's "closing strategy" - new-age McCarthyism - question people's patriotism - appeal to people's fears to win their votes. It only works with their base (and that's because it only works with mouth-breathing troglodytes). The Ayers and ACORN attacks are part of that whole narrative. ACORN destroying "the fabric of our democracy." HYPERBOLE, anyone? This is why McCain had to be seen at a couple of rallies giving his lame, lukewarm "defense" of Obama to the Kool-Aid drinkers in his crowd. He had to be seen "denouncing" the whispers and rumors *himself* while all the other surrogates, robocalls, mailers, etc. keep up the unAmerican questions. Notice when talking to Crazy Rally Lady he nearly said the word "American" but stopped short -- it was very, very pronounced -- he would only say "citizen." If he'd said American the rest of their strategy doesn't work. They are shallow, shameles, disgraceful "citizens" all of them -- vote straight Democrat (or Dem/Independent if that's an option) and throw the whole GOP out nationwide!

Palin would have us teach creationism along side evolution. As energy czarina how will she explain the appearance of fossil fuel that pre-date genesis by several hundred million years?
She must tell us she is the expert. If she would answer questions.

We desperatly need to advance in science and Math and she wants to teach mythology...unamerican...or at least it should be.

Lincoln wisely observed that "a house divided against itself cannot stand," and we as a nation need to stand together--now more than ever. In light of that, Palin's comments are highly divisive and unacceptable.

Washington DC isn't patriotic, huh? I was born in DC. My great, great grandmother raised chickens on Capitol Hill. Most people in DC aren't working for Congress or the President. They are normal Americans: teachers, nurses, Starbucks baristas, cashiers, bank tellers. What's more, citizens of Washington DC willingly give their lives for this country in the armed forces even though those same citizens lack voting representation in Congress. I can't imagine a more selflessly patriotic act. Alaskan soldiers are at least fighting for a country where they have full representation in government. I would like to see Sarah Palin try to say to the family of a fallen DC soldier that they and their neighbors are not "patriotic" or "pro-America."

If McCain and Palin do happen to get elected it will only be a result of hate and intolerance within the entire country and will ultimately show America as divided and likely beyond repair after 4 more years of this type of culture.

They use this "Pro-America" B=S because they have nothing else. They can only use this type of attack if people let them, and from the looks of it, America is not buying it.

i remember being called unpatriotic because i questioned "w" and his intentions in iraq
the whole idea of a democracy is to question our leaders and "vote" the bad ones out
it is this change
this evolution
that the founding fathers encouraged and expected
i am very patriotic, i served in the military, i donate time to the comunity
as well as my church

And remember, we voted Bush OUT in 2004, but Karl Rove and Ken Blackwell succeeded in stealing the election. Rove is using the same tactics now; are we going to let him steal yet another?

The McCain/Palin campaign reminds me of the song Razzle Dazzle from Chicago:

"Give 'em the old razzle dazzle
Razzle Dazzle 'em
Give 'em an act with lots of flash in it
And the reaction will be passionate
Give 'em the old hocus pocus
Bead and feather 'em
How can they see with sequins in their eyes?
What if your hinges all are rusting?
What if, in fact, you're just disgusting?
Razzle dazzle 'em
And they'll never catch wise!"

The Problem with the McCain/Palin Campaign is the many American voters have gotten wise.

Patriotism, nationalism, jingoism... Love of country should mean right now sorrow and pain for what we have become and a fervent desire to change direction. It should stop at flag-waving, shouts of "traitor" "Kill him: because someone served on an education commttee. It shouldn't be reveling in ignorance and lack of good manners. It should be taking responsibility and correcting excesses of elected officials, not compounding them and rewarding scoundrels because they tell us how wonderful we all are. "American workers are the best in the world!" If that's so, Sarah, why is Wal-mart buying so damned much from China? Must be they're "traitors."
