MESILLA, N.M. — Democratic vice presidential candidate Joe Biden mocked rival Sarah Palin's comment in North Carolina that she loves visiting "pro-America" parts of the country, arguing that the entire nation is patriotic.

"Ladies and gentlemen, I have never been to a state that hasn't sent its sons and daughters to serve its country," Biden said Friday in New Mexico as the crowd booed Palin's reported comments. "It doesn't matter where you live, we all love this country. And I hope it gets through that one of the reasons why Barack (Obama) and I are running is that we know how damaging the policy of division ... has been.

"We are one nation, under God, indivisible," Biden shouted to the crowd. "We are all patriotic, we all love this country."

According to published reports, Palin told a North Carolina fundraiser Thursday that the best of America was not in Washington, D.C., but in small towns like the one in Alaska where she served as mayor.

"Being here with all of you hardworking, very patriotic, um, very, um, pro-America areas of this great nation. This is where we find the kindness and the goodness and the courage of everyday Americans," the Republican vice presidential candidate said.

The Obama campaign issued a news release asking reporters what part of the country isn't pro-America.

While campaigning in New Mexico, Biden said Republican presidential nominee John McCain "has been bequeathed tactics of Karl Rove in the last few weeks" and warned that the final days of the campaign will get ugly.

Addressing a crowd of several hundred in the Old Mesilla plaza, Biden urged supporters to ignore what they hear from McCain and concentrate on the change that the Democratic ticket promises. "You're going to see some really tough stuff," Biden said.

New Mexico has become a critical battleground state where Democrats see a real shot of making up the narrow gap that gave the state to President Bush in 2004.

Biden said fewer than 6,000 votes separated Bush and Massachusetts Sen. John Kerry in the last election, a gap that could easily be made up with a strong showing in early voting.

"Our job isn't going to be done until you cast your ballot," Biden said. "It's going to take all of us here today."

Cut the bull, Biden. You were the one that implied that the rich were unpatriotic if they didn't pay more taxes. But that was out of the other side of your mouth, so that's okay, right?

I am tired of the hypocritical bull that the Democrats are selling to the American people. So, I guess we are even.

Standing in repeated opposition to the proposed tax cuts for the wealthiest of Americans, he said:

"I cannot in good conscience support a tax cut in which so many of the benefits go to the most fortunate among us at the expense of middle-class Americans who most need tax relief."

Guess which liberal was selling this to the American people.

Yeah, that quote is from J.ohn Mc.Cain, when he was fighting the Bush tax cuts in Congress, 2001.

Now, he wants to make them permanent.

Biden didn't imply this, you inferred it.

Also, if you were rich you wouldn't be writing comments on Huffington Post.

You also wouldn't call them "rich".

And anyone who isn't rich, but still defends the rich and says they shouldn't have to pay more taxes, is indeed unpatriotic, and hates America.

Biden never said this, but I just did.

F^ck the rich at least that is what they have been doing to us for years.

THese rich folks let's say 5mil per year complaining about 250K in taxes. Yet I can afford to pay my rent and buy food on the same check!

Please!

Nice.

I suppose you think capitalism works and the free market is infallible as well?

Let me clue you in buddy, all those tax cuts for the rich and corporate America... you know how that's defined?

That's right. The rich get socialism while the rest of us utilize free market capitalism to scrabble over the bones from the rich table.

Just ask yourself why people making millions of dollars a year need to pay less taxes than your average teacher or firefighter, who can't hire armies of tax lawyers or pore through arcane tax laws to find those little loopholes?

So of course, those in power and with money espouse capitalism, it keeps the masses in thrall to a system that works against them.

In response to Palin's despciable comments about people who live cities, my wife suggested that people who live in cities send McCain/Palin a list of those people who lived in your city who died defending America. We live in NYC and I sent McCain the names of two NYC firefighters who died in Iraq and the almost 3,000 innocent people who died at the Trade Center.

We encourage you do the same.

What 'comments' did she make about people who live in cities? Seems to me she was merely praising the ethos of small town, mainstream, working-class America. Does it necessarily follow that she disdains big-city America? If I heap praise on my oldest daughter, does it necessarily follow that I have no regard or respect or admiration for my youngest daughter?

Anyway, go ahead Joe and keep putting words in her mouth. She's not going away.

Sorry.

Why is it that every time i try and post a comment about the kind of prejudice that relates to skin color, my comment gets immediately flagged and then deleted? Is this topic off limits on HuffPo? I thought talking about social problems is healthy.

This is the last place i'd expect that conversation to be off limits...

It's not relative to our interest. We know there are issues with race, move on and sound something concrete to get Obama elected next mouth, or comment about the above blog.

Of course it's not relative to your interest. You're white, right??? You don't have to think about it, so back off those who do.

I think think this response is incredibly flippant. How can you be so dismissive of something like this?

Anyway, I actually was commenting about the above blog, i was simply talking about the "skin color" implications of what Sarah Palin said. I know that there are certain words that get flagged, but I said nothing antagonistic or offensive.

Yes it is. I have almost 600 deleted posts right now for that very reason. You can only post about the quasi blowback racism whites feel from blacks and watch in disgust as they attempt to make the case that whites being called racists is worse than being black and actually experiencing it. It's ridiculous.

she must not know that Washington, DC, is not only the center of government, but that it is also a residence city, and that *there are actually people who live there who are NOT in government.* does she care? does she realize that she is smearing approximately *80%* of the total US population by making her asinine, idiotic, pandering statements???

I'm sorry, but if I were a Republican, and I were told that I wasn't "pro-American" because I lived in a metropolitan area, I would be majorly pissed, and vote against the party that said that about me.

The reason Palin loves small towns is probably because she thinks that they haven't heard of the AIP yet.

It is American to defend the right to difference of opinion, and to love the variety, and to know and love the bill of rights and the constitution. It's American to know history and to read. I'ts American to sing. And it is American to sing protest songs.
And, I view the opportuinty to vote for a black American, who seems like one smart guy with good ideas, as a thrill. When I am a grandma I want to be able to say I was there and I did this new and democratic thing. I voted that time!
