Powell was amazingly diplomatic to GW Bush and McCain as he endorsed Obama.

He did it!! and he did a great job of explaining why he's supporting Obama much to the chagrin of Brokaw. Brokaw's anger was palpable. I've NEVER seen him drill anyone with such vigor and purpose. Too bad he wouldn't do that on both sides of the aisle!!

Powell saw the Neoconservative influence on GW Bush and the resulting Iraq invasion. He sees Neocon Randall Scheunemann as McCain's top foreign affairs advisor. I think the smart money will be on Powell endorsing Obama.

We should forgive Powell for his 'blot.' He was clearly a victim of 'group think,' which is a very real phenomenon. I believe at heart he is a good man, and won't be surprised if he either endorses Obama or stays neutral after criticising the current nest of war criminals, and also McCain. I do hope he endorses Obama, though, because he commands a lot of respect in this country and an endorsement would move some independent votes to the good side.

Powell's endorsement isn't as important as the reasons he gives for it (assuming its for Obama).

If he criticizes McCain--and in particular how much like Bush's his policies are--it might go a ways toward rehabilitating Powell as someone with ethics and integrity.

If he just talks about Obama, without the Bush-McCain comments, ...well, I don't think it will mean nearly as much.

I wont hold my breath for Mr Powell,,,that said, even tho Ive always been a democrat , once upon a time I would have voted for him for Pres but after his pathic stint as Sec of State I dont think he has much of a backbone in him and I woulnt be at all surprised if he didnt support McCain

Wouldn't it be great if Powell goes on Meet The Press tomorrow and just speaks his heart--straight out and honest?

That's what he should do, but *should* and *will* are two different things.

Remember, this is the guy who sold his soul to the Bush administration and helped Bush wage an immoral war. Can we really expect him to turn around now? That would require a full acceptance and admission of his own wrong doing and, I'm sorry, but the vast majority of men just tend not to be capable of that.

This is General Powell's opportunity to regain his position as a great American leader. He may be able to put the icing on Barack Obama's cake by an endorsement. I hope he has waited this long in order to be sure of his position, and that he will take the right position. Americans need leaders they can trust and believe in, and -- at least for a while -- Colin Powell was one of those leaders. I will greatly disappointed if he does anything other than endorse -- and make a sound argument for -- Senator Barack Obama as our next president. Please don't disappoint me, Mr. Secretary.

I was just watching the trailer for Tom Cruise's new movie Valkyrie. His character states "I have served my country, but I have betrayed my conscience"... I thought of Powell for whatever reason.

Those of you stating that you believe Gen. Powell will endorse McCain should think again...Gen. Powell is not in the same catorgory as some of the "stupid" Black Republicans who are willing to "sit" on their hands and "smile" as McCain plays the race card. McCain and Palin have been doing this. Gen. Powell has been "used " by the Bush adminstration. George Bush was suppose to be a honorable man, Powell was his friend and believed this, to his ultimate cost. Powell is a man who believes in loyality and honor. Having given his word to Bush concerning certain "information" he had knowledge of while in the WH, he would not have lied, so he has stayed silent after his departure from the Bush adminstration. But none of us will EVER know the depth of his anger toward Bush. Gen. Powell is an intelligent man. He knows racism when he sees it. He waited until McCain played his last hand. He wanted to see if McCain would, under pressure, drag out the old GOP playbook of "smear and divide." And what did McCain do? Powell is a man of decency and honor, and I also, believe that his wife Alma, would have something to say about him supporting McCain, especially after all the racism that has been spewed by McCain and Palin in these last weeks. If he doesn't endorse Obama, Powell will NOT endorse anyone...wait and see.

He won't endorse him.

But will he criticize him?

If he was going to endorse McCain he would have done it by now, a million times over, I think. There's no reason for him to sit on a McCain endorsement, but there are tons of reasons for him to sit on an Obama endorsement.

Whatever you personally think about him, whether he was lying, lied to, or most likely some combination of the two, because the gray area is always the best bet- this is a coup for swinging a lot of the center.

Okay, I changed my mind.
It looks like Powell will have the ba*lls to endorse Obama.
I'll bet he endorses O and then spends more time telling us what a great friend and
great guy he thinks McCain is.
This will off-set his endorsement.
Powell probably wants to appear to be Mr. Nicey Nicey to everyone!!!
If this is what he intends on doing, then he should just stay home and find another way to
boost his ego.

on larry king tonight ed schultz, who annoys me at times but certainly has his place in the progressive movement and i'm glad for it because he speaks for and appeals to loads of americans who fall in the middle -neither right or left, but he said something interesting --- obama is now leading among white, male independent voters, something that clinton and kerry never were able to do....the corporate, msm want a horserace in part because it allows mccain to lose gracefully rather than get stomped on like the roaches that he and palin have been behaving like....let's not get taken in by the pollsters and media --- with conservatives climbing on board, white males, tons of new young voters, etc, obama has voting constituents democratic pres candidates typically do not enjoy...a loyal soldier like powell will endorse obama for the same reason everyone else has -- because his country needs him to...

After seeing the movie "W" - He's definitely endorsing Obama. Colin Powells career was deteriorated by Bush and the administration.
