Fired U.S. Attorney: "I'm Astounded" By DOJ's ACORN Probe

David Iglesias

TPMMuckraker:

David Iglesias says he's shocked by the news, leaked today to the Associated Press, that the FBI is pursuing a voter-fraud investigation into ACORN just weeks before the election.

"I'm astounded that this issue is being trotted out again," Iglesias told TPMmuckraker. "Based on what I saw in 2004 and 2006, it's a scare tactic." In 2006, Iglesias was fired as U.S. attorney thanks partly to his reluctance to pursue voter-fraud cases as aggressively as DOJ wanted -- one of several U.S. attorneys fired for inappropriate political reasons, according to a recently released report by DOJ's Office of the Inspector General.

Actually...I would be astounded if something came of it.

This Guy from the beginning of this entire DOJ scandal of trying to politicize the Justice Dept, has said ALL the right things, shown Clear impartiality and Balance of Honor in doing his job, and has had greatly accurate and Constitutional Opinions expressed routinely in every interview.

This guy should be nominated to be AG.
Seriously.

From what I understand, ACORN has nothing to do with actual election-day/vote fraud, but rather registration tactics that are perpetrated against them by some (a very few) of their field employees, who are apparently paid based on the number of voters they register, hence the "Mickey Mouse"s, etc. most/all of whom would, of course, not actually be able to even try to vote.

The fact the the republicans, WHO ARE IN THE WHITE HOUSE BECAUSE OF QUESTIONABLE VOTING/VOTE COUNTING ISSUES, are bringing this all up is pretty ironic and hard to fathom...

Is there some point of logic that I am missing???

Yes, it is registration fraud if you want to call it fraud. Comes down to some immature pranks imo. But the GOP hauls this one out every election and grinds it into the ground. And the poor folks who don't have an ounce of curiosity in them BELIEVE every word. There is very little if any VOTER fraud from this. The hysteria is incredible. And look what the GOP did in California..ya..the GOP changed the party of quite a few while having them sign an inititive. I do believe that is REAL voter registration fraud. Let it be known that Mickey and Minnie Mouse will not be voting.

This whole issue needs to be aired over and over. The public only sees that ACORN is robbing us of votes. They don't realize this is an ongoing issue tied to the scandal at the Justic Department.
09:47 AM on 10/18/2008
So today we are seeing instances of vandalism at ACORN's offices and threats against their employees. Isn't that just like the conservatives who will stop at nothing to win this election...all done in response to McCain's statement at the last presidential debate. McCain should be ashame of his words and the actions they have provoked.

I like this guy, he has integrity. Obama should consider him for a posituion at DOJ. Who better to help clean up that organization than someone who knows personally the pitfalls of rampant political prosecutions?

The more I see and hear from David Iglesias, the more I like him!

Surely there will be a place in the Obama administration for a person of his ethics and character.

Not unless somebody brings up Iglesias to Obama. Otherwise he will be lost in the mix. Darn..one who took his job seriously. Too bad he was a republican doncha think. He had to pass a litmus test to get that job to begin with. I hope to God that Obama does a better job.

No surprises here. I am sick and tired of dead beat Democrats in the Congress who do nothing to help the situation but whine and complain. I hope they lose both houses.

Democrats are so spineless they make shrimps look like monsters.

They know that abusive laws are on the books and they sit back and do nothing about it because the election laws of the land protect the incumbents.

Shame on them!! They are no better than Tom Delay.

STOP THAT! I'm sick and tired of "you" kind of peopel blaming the Democrats. When you have filibustering idiots - the Republicans - in Congress fighting everything - what can you do? Let's get an entire Democrat senate and congress - let's get rid of the republicans.

When Mukasey took the job he was considered to be at least an honest man; he has not done much in office to keep that reputation alive.

The Justice Department has never been more politicized and partisan due to the Bush administration and Karl Rove the scariest thing about it is that The Federalist Society has invested The Justice Dept. and it will take years to weed these sycophants out of it..!

Why isn't the MSM talking about AIP/Palin....She has some explaining to do? Is it because they are pretty sure she will be gone come Nov 5th and no one will really care?

It's because they don't care about our nation, about our laws and constitution and people, but only about their ratings and their Republican handlers. I thought they'd made that clear?

One of the things I would love to se with an Obama president would be to reinstate all of these fired attorneys to their rightful jobs. Bush should never had been able to use politics as he has and we should set this aright with the right actions. David has been a good and solid person and support for all of those fired and he is d eserving of all and any praise he gets. I am glad he has not withdrawn and is still able to speak his mind. I agree with him that the ACORN deal is a GOP witchhunt to suppress voters again.

Well they do change over with a new administration. So it is not their rightful job but it would be good to have the credible and brave souls re-instated.
