The Republican Party is blasting out a four-page pamphlet tying Barack Obama to Bill Ayers, who they say oversaw a "reign of terror" and is a "friend of Obama."

The literature, sent independently to the Huffington Post by readers in Nevada and North Carolina, is part of a continued effort to tie Obama to the former Weather Underground member even as Sen. John McCain says he is uninterested in an "old, washed-up terrorist." As reported yesterday, the McCain campaign and the Republican National Committee have launched a massive nationwide robocall campaign on the same topic.

The layout of the pamphlets (which were sent from the North Carolina Republican State Executive Committee and the Nevada Republican Party) has an almost eerie, children's book feel to it.

"This is the story of William Ayers," the cover reads. "Terrorist. Radical. Friend of Obama." Additionally, the pamphlet places the notorious Ayers quote -- "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough" -- in between a picture of him and Obama, potentially misleading recipients as to who said it.

The Party also takes poetic license in interpreting Ayers' role in the Weather Underground movement, suggesting that he ran the organization and paralyzed the country in fear.

"During his reign of terror, Ayers and his organization bombed the United States Capitol, the Pentagon, a judge's house and policy stations."

It should be noted that three of the four pages contain pictures of both Obama and Ayers, and that two of those three have their photos side-by-side.

Again, if you get any campaign materials like the above, feel free to contact the Huffington Post.

Lies inuendoes and other BS
How pathetic some posts are. You are letting the rovian tactics of the McCain/ Palin campaign rule you. Both sides. For the dittoheads.....you will believe your leaders, never mind the facts. For the Democrats, you are defending things that don't warrant defending. You cannot prove a negative i.e. "When did you stop beating your wife?" Of course you never beat your wife, therefore when you stopped cannot be proven. When a fact is proven, dittoheads only believe their leaders, therefore even facts cannot be proven. The only thing left to their leaders is to attack Obama with half-truths, lies and inuendos, 'dittoheads' can only come back with 'ditto'.
We have been living the 'trickle down' theory, on steroids. Ask the 90% of small businesses and working class that have lost millions of decent jobs and benefits, "How's it working for you?". Then ask the top 10% , including millionaires (newly become multi-millionaires) and billionaires, "How's it working for you?" Then ask each, "Do you want 4 more years of McSame?" --------------------------------------

The redistribution of wealth is almost completed. Class warfare is already happening. It wasn't perpetrated by the middle or lower classes. It wasn't because of communism or socialism. Open your eyes look around you. Corporations and the very wealthy control our lives. Not just jobs, war, and wealth, but food, medicine, water and air. From the last 8+ years (probably 40 years) CHECK! Four more years....CHECKMATE!!!

This is nothing short of a bad social experiment that will "out" all the nuts and right-wing wackos. It wont work and just might get somebody hurt or killed. 16 days to go. thank God.

I fear no foriegn threat as imminently as I do the domestic hatred, ignorance and closemindedness that abounds in this, my country. That so many are able to believe the distortions and blatant lies about Barack Obama is frightening. I am no blind follower. I do seek facts rather than succumb to fiction when it comes to important issues and the people who would lead this nation. Information is only as good as its source. We must get our affairs in order; elect serious and thoughtful leaders who will not sell out and take the cheap shot for the sake of gaining power and profit. Will we continue this thrashing about, this frenzy of ignorance that threatens to destroy us? If so, then we can forget about greed on Wall Street, bombs in suitcases, missiles from Iran or anywhere else. Forget about climate change and plagues. If so, we have indeed NOTseen the enemy...and it IS us. Educate yourselves. Stop the lies and hatred.

This type of propoganda is what was being circulated during Hitler's regime. It sickens and disgusts me that this is tolerated in this country. I don't think our founding fathers intended for this to happen when they drafted the Constitution and Bill of Rights. This is a flagrant abuse of the first ammendment, Freedom of Speach. The Republicans have sunk to an all new low. They can't win on issues, so they resort to slander.

So, the McCain campaign can't win on the issues so they stoop to lying and fear-mongering.

I'm concerned that the very stupid are taking all this to heart and they do vote. Please, please, please people don't give up, we need to fight harder than ever and not let up one bit until every last vote is counted.

Republicans have tried every dirty trick in the book to slam Obama and are wondering why none of it is sticking and the simple answer is they are DESPERATE and at desperate times will do desperate things. Republicans just give up because the path of the election graph is not trending towards your direction.

I can't understand why more Republicans are saying, "this defies common sense." Come on...Obama was 8 years old when Ayers was doing his anit-war, anti-establishment antics. I remember Ayes and his weathermen and they weren't "all that" to begin with.) But why isn't that domestic terrorist spending his life in prisonl? Instead he is teaching English at the University of Illinois. It just doesn't make sense to me why anyone would believe this crap...and that is exactly what it is...crap.

All I can say is all this mudslinging is not getting our country anywhere. If it takes lies to get someone elected imagine what kind of president this country will have.
I voted for Hilary but she didn't make it. The combination of McCain and Palin is scary to me.

Right. And that is why the first reaction to Joe the Plumber was to discredit him and look at his tax records. That had nothing to do with what Obama said to him about redistributing the wealth. And yet, the Obama campaign, through its surrogates, namely the media, immediately began to smear the man rather than discuss the comment and the context. Maybe people will start to really see Obama for what he is. He continues to preach about who is going to get a tax cut, using the term "quarter of a million dollars" to play that up as if that makes you rich, but has yet to say what happens to those making that or more. It doesn't take much to read between the lines. And what will those people do when they feel the crunch? Start laying people off, so there goes unemployment. The way I read it, Joe never said he made $250k, just that he wanted to buy the business and that he might make that. But, hey, we wanted Change, right?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 04:16 PM on 10/18/2008

You have a few inaccuracies here.
1. Your comment about the media for instance, Fox also did the Joe the Plumber story and if they work for anyone it's the Republicans. So your insinuation about the media smearing Joe to achieve a political agenda is absurd.
2. Wealth is ALREADY being redistributed. The rich, those making over 250k a year currently pay LESS taxes than most, and yet buisinesses like Wallmart get huge subsidies for their expansion (the taxpayers paid for building most of their stores).
The redistribution of weath has gone from the middle class to the weathy.
To start making those who make over 250k per year pay their FAIR share of taxes is not weath redistribution. It's restoring the tax rate for over 250k to what it was prior to Bush's failed and ineffective policies.
3. In case you have not noticed, jobs are not here in the US anymore. They were when the Clintons taxed those who made over 250k per year like Obama will, but now that the wealthy are not being taxed, the jobs are gone. IE, your statement about layoffs happening as a result of Obamas tax plan is proven wrong by history.

Watch for the heist. McCain is a crooked little man with an agenda. It's not YOUR agenda.

ACORN has no agenda right? And they have been completely above board and Obama has no connection to them. Oh, sorry, they were just some people trying to make money.

ACORN audits all voter registration cards that they collect and tag every signal one that they deem a fraud or incomplete. By law they must turn in each and every form completed even if the name is Mickey Mouse or Elvis Presley. The were completely above the board and the only reason they are in the news now is because the GOP is trying to smear them.

By Gawd, you're right! ACORN's actions are almost as frightening as, say, having an election stolen by rigged voting machines. Proof of this was shown on an HBO documentary, "Hacking Democracy." The two women who made the film went to the vote tabulation center and discovered a janitor who had collected up one set of printed numbers (the actual votes that were cast) so he could burn them. The ladies wrestled to bag away from him, it tore open, and he said, "OK, as long as you pick up all of that paper."

Inside was the second set of numbers and a good, Christian Fundamentalist woman (not the gal with the Tammy Fae Spacking makeup, but one of her management team.) I knew she was a Fundamentalist because such people are not allowed to consider facts or evidence. When showed both paper trails, she refused to "see" them right in front of her.

Al Capone always kept two sets of books as well.

They say we get the government we deserve. Did we really deserve George and Dick for eight years ? Well if history repeats then those that leave the USA will go to Canada. And Alaska and the Palins will be able to secede from the Union. And those who are left, that picked another Bush style
administration can pay off the 700 billion dollar boondoggle.

Obama is a wise man with a wise group of associates who will keep going forward and overcome the BS lies of this GOP generation. They are nasty, dispicable people with a sneer in their words and a fear in their hearts.
Vote for "that one", or be ready for another term of the same, but worse.
Think of Palin in national office. Think of it.

It seems to be a typical Republican response. When someone disagrees with you, or you're losing, just start labeling them unpatriotic, a terrorist, a criminal, etc. Some Republicans and their rabid supporters are just incapable of common decency when confronted with the absurdity that someone thinks differently than them. They are unable to understand that there might be a better way to do things. Because so many of them base their political views on their right wing "christian" beliefs, to admit they were wrong would invalidate their religion. As evidenced by the Cheney/Bush regime.

This is a typical response to the politics of a presidential election, as if it is some new concept. And one need look no further than the comments on these pages to see the vitriol spewed about. For some people history started in 2000 when Bush "stole" the election. But now, when ACORN tries to do the same, all is fair again. I just have to say, be careful what you wish for.

I don't know how much lower one can get than a snake's belly, but the McCain campaign is certainly exploring the possibilities. One of the pages displayed from the "story of William Ayers" has his wife on the run from the FBI at the end of one paragraph, and with no hint of intervening years begins the next one with "Then William Ayers became a friend, colleague and supporter of Barack Obama." This kind of deliberate distortion deserves only the most vitriolic approbation.

So we have a man who was passionately against the war in Vietnam and the government that was perpetrating it. The war ended, time passed, and he became a useful citizen, involving himself in efforts to further the cause of good education. Barack Obama associates himself with that cause -- as does any sane American who cares about our future.

How about Jesus? The Scribes and Pharisees denounced him for "palling around" with those "publicans and sinners." Did his relationship with them corrupt his morals and tarnish his name for all time to come? One thing is clear: had he been a Republican, he would have shunned those social outcasts. Instead, he would have been down at the Temple in cahoots with the money changers!

Surely there has never been before in the history of America a group so richly deserving of going down in ignominious defeat in a presidential election as the current Republican ticket.

It doesn't matter what the truth is. One thing you can count on from the Republican Party is that they will lie to you, distort the truth and smear the reputations of anybody who stands in their way. It is the reason why the GOP has lost ALL credibility. I can tell you, from an outsider's point of view, that this type of behavior would never be tolerated in most civilized countries like Canada, Britain, Europe and many many other countries. The electorate would bounce them out of office and you would never hear from them again. These shameful tactics are the hallmarks of a corrupt system. You would expect them from a totalitarian state like Russia or the old Soviet Union or dictatorship. It is sad to see these lies and distortions coming from America, it completely undermines America's credibility because, because if a politician is prepared to stoop so low as to actually lie and smear his own countryman how is his word to be trusted when dealing with foreigners?

A majority of my adolescent students out here in Redneck Midwest are already sad because McCain is not going to win. They say the country is going to fall apart when that happens. Where are they getting this? Their parents, of course, many who are graduates of the school in which I've taught for 29 years and live middle-class lives in this rural community. Fear and adult impressions have led to this. We have one black student in grades 7-12 in our school, and that's it for racial diversity. They get to junior high, and they're already set for life in a right or left direction. My 8th graders recently got into a yelling match, and I finally banned politics from the classroom. It's too volatile an issue. Some young potential GOP members I have are sure global warming is a Democratic conspiracy which the left-wing press is being paid to write about! The stuff I hear is appalling. When the most aggressive young men say they'd rather have Sarah Palin as president than Barack Obama, I now know I've heard everything. I'm just relieved that the winds of change are blowing elsewhere in the country though maybe not in my locale. Thanks for letting me vent.

Feline9319, I take it you are a cat person too. What you say is the sad truth about too many young people in today's world. Instead of encouraging real, independent thinking, our young are encouraged not to make waves. When you are told the lie often enough, you believe it. If you grow up as I did, offering a different opinion meant getting hit hard enough to be knocked off the chair you were sitting on so you learned to keep your opinions to yourself. Going along to get along is a fact of life whether it means settling for less or not. If a young person is not blessed with the intellect that allows them examine a situation and draw their own conclusions, they will do as their parents and peers indicate is the right thing to do, their peers of course, are parroting their own wrong-headed parents. Our educational system has been dumbed down so no one has to feel they they are the slowest kid in class. This ignores the brightest kids and their potential and this is exactly what the repub party wants. An undereducated population is easily led, a led population is easily scared, a scared population is easily controlled. The result is the last eight years. The people were too dumb to rise up loudly protesting the halted vote count and the handing of the world's most important jobs to one of the world's most incredible fools.

Thank you, littleblackcat. You "get it." Unfortunately, those not associated closely with the educational system as such has trouble with that. Many kids have no aspirations to leave their podunk town, if their parents didn't see the need or have the desire. These kids deserve adults with an open mind, but some are close to brainwashed when they hit junior high. All black or white, no gray areas. Sad, true, but very real.

Thanks for venting about "tolerance". Since none of their views match with yours, that is such a shame. Damn Rednecks. God forbid they should have opinions of their own, or that you would provide a place for them to discuss other ideas. I can't believe that you have not been able to bring in more diversity to your school - the government should take care of that for you. And since global warming is proven science, please include it in your curriculum. But Obama is going to change all that, because, once again, all of this started in 2000. None of it has anything to do with the Great Society or any of that.

Funny to read this from anyone. Here's what you need to know: Several of the students with the most highly educated parents having prestigious careers are SURE that global warming is a conspiracy. Their parents tell them that. Never mind it's proven science. If GW is brought up in class, the eye-rolling and snickering starts, and some of these are A-students. No opinions of their own and great at telling the world just what their parents tell them. Tolerance? Not at 14. Teachers are called on the carpet for trying to tell them of truth such as global warming. Truth to them is that $$$ can be earned through working construction, and school is a place to endure. My own political leanings are not known by my students. I dare not try to influence the young things, you know.
