NY Times:

Confronting an increasingly bleak electoral map, top aides to Senator John McCain said Thursday that they were searching for a "narrow-victory scenario" and would focus in the final weeks on a dwindling number of states, using mailings, telephone calls and television advertisements to try to tear away support from Senator Barack Obama.

...

Mr. McCain's advisers said that in his speeches, television advertisements and mailings, he would seize on a remark Mr. Obama made in an encounter with an Ohio voter, Joe Wurzelbacher, who had pressed him to explain his support for a tax increase for upper-income filers. Mr. Obama responded by saying he wanted to "spread the wealth." Mr. McCain repeatedly invoked that encounter with the man, whom he called "Joe the Plumber," during the debate on Wednesday.

Now, we know why he was roaming the stage at the townhall debate. He was searching for his narrow victory scenario.

Speaking of "spreading the wealth," I'd like to see the profits from corporations benefit shareholders instead of being siphoned off by executives who sit on each other's BODs. The purpose of allowing incorporation in the first place was to raise capital, pursue a business venture, then distribute the profits among the shareholders. Now many corporations appear to be a facade whose purpose is enrich a few people who gain control of one, milk it for awhile by cooking the books, then parachute out as multi-millionaires once the jig is up. The ever-more-inflated overcompensation of the last couple of decades is grotesque and cannot be justified.

Who cares about McCain's plant, "Joe the Plumber"? It doesn't mean anything in this election and this guy does not represent the average american. McCain should be ashamed of himself for planting this guy at an Obama rally and then exposing all his faults to America. This is just going to widen McCain's loss, like everything he has been doing. He just keeps digging a deeper and deeper hole.

Oh, McCain looked so ashamed of himself as Obama spoke so graciously at last night's Alfred E. Smith's dinner. Obama got some zingers in, but he was essentially touchingly kind to McCain. He offered a chance for McCain to salvage some dignity and self-respect. Let's see if McCain is in charge or even has possesion of his own soul anymore. The next two weeks will tell.

He just keeps blundering. And what was that whole thing about the debate, with the "we've got them where we want them" crap?

He's already lost.

Deal with it.

Republicans are purging voters for the registers and setting their corporate electronic voting machines as quick and quietly as possible....
From a year of research by Kennedy , the republicans have purged 2.7 million voters ,,for the voting register and still counting...Now we know of 200,000 more in Ohio....
They will keep running their polls to see just how many they have to purge and switch to republicans
in order to steal another elections...
WHERE ARE OUR DEMOCRATS OR HAVE WE BEEN ELECTING REPUBLICANS ON OUR DEMOCRATIC TICKET the reason they are doing nothing about this thief...
Our democrats in office are so d... scare that someone will call them liberal , that they pick republicans to run on our democratic ticket and we support them with our time and money....
If republicans steal this election ,,, hell is the price they should pay..With his blackwater army and all...
We know our democrats will do nothing....They have shown their yellow streak in the previous two stolen election ,plus who in the h... knows what others..

The Ohio and Michigan courts have said "No way!". Michigan has prohibited the use of foreclosure lists to challenge voters and Ohio http://www.nytimes.com/2008/10/18/washington/18scotus.html?_r=1&hp&oref=slogin I'm not even going to try and explain it.

McCain's "narrow victory" (aka "his only hope") requires him winning Nevada, Colorado, Florida, Missouri, North Carolina, Ohio, and Virginia. He's currently behind in the polls in all seven states. He's more than 8 points down in VA, nearly 6 down in CO, and at least 3 points down in NV, OH, and FL. I expect the more "narrow" his hope for victory, the more desperate his tactics will be.

Well actually he has to hold on to the Red states that's already in his corner and he has to win every single swing state(or states that Bush won 4 years ago) which include, Ohio, Florida, Nevada, New Mexico, Indiana, Virginia, Georgia, Missouri, North Carolina, and Colorado. If he loses any one of those he won't be able to overtake Obama.

That's a tall order isn't it?

Anecdotal report: I live in a very red county in Florida. There are far fewer McCain signs then there were Bush in 2004 and there are way more Obama signs then there were Kerry in 2004 in my neighborhood. That last was easy to count, in 2004 I had the only Kerry sign :)

Narrow victory "scenario" code words for: Stealing an election. Did you notice McCain added the word 'scenario? Why not make his point with just stating "narrow victory"? We would all get that. So, what does he mean by "scenario"?

Sure ,,, By their thief of votes and deletion of democratic voters.... Are we stupid to the fact that the republicans after building their president as a dictator , will let any democrat be elected to that position..
Wake Up Democrats , you can keep registering democratic voters by the millions , but when the republicans are purging them as quick as you register them , what good will it do...
Poll numbers might say they will vote democratic , but when they get to the polls to vote and they can't vote or their vote is deleted or switch to republican or one of the third parties there is nothing anyone ""will"" do about it..
What was ever done about the other 2 thief of the office of presidency by Bush/Cheney....
Not a d... thing except talk on the Internet....
We have heard more about the BS of the republican on Acorn from the news media then we have about the thief by Bush and republicans for the past 8 years...

I sincerely hope that Obama and his campaign turn around the "spread the wealth" argument with this.....For eight years the republicans have also "spread the wealth", except they have taken it from the middle class and given it to the rich, particularly due to the type of tax policies that McCain has in his tax plan.

Why should average everyday americans fear spreading the wealth when they are the ones who will be receiving it and the fat cats, politicians, lobbyists, and other rich people are the ones who will be giving it up?

Rich people like the McCains do not have to worry about health care costs, education costs, taxes, gasoline costs, or any other expense that regular people pay. Obama gets that and wants to make lives easier for the Americans that DO worry about these things.......name one thing McCain has said that refutes the claim that he will be just like Bush......

The denizens of the moronosphere are, once again, incapable of identifying their own best interests.

For YEARS, the GOP has been CONCENTRATING the wealth in Wall Street and companies like Exxon-Mobil. These beneficiaries of corporate welfare reap the rewards of countless tax loopholes while the middle class pays for their yachts and private jets. This has been going on for so long, I guess most people have just gotten numb or stupid or something.

Along comes Obama who says, "These huge corporations have been cheating on their taxes for years, not paying their fair share. I'm going to close the loopholes and end the giveaways, and take the money and distribute it to working class people through tax cuts."

And "middle class working whites" or "low information voters" or whatever they're being called this week think this is a BAD IDEA?

Why will no one in the media present figures on which way the wealth of this nation has been going for years now? The wealthiest 5% have seen huge income growth, while middle and low-income folks have seen a decrease in their worth. With the price of housing down, middle class people don't even have assets worth more than what they owe to the bank. All of this redistribution of wealth has occurred while the productivity of the American worker has gone up-yet the American worker has nothing to show for his/her efforts.

Sad thing is hearing how the top 5% are paying 40% of taxes and how awful is that? Makes me want to thro ttle them with a banner showing how 40% of the wealth is in that 5%.
