Palin's Staffers Keep Her Away From The News To Avoid Being "Depressed"

A day after The Washington Post's Dana Milbank wrote about how the Secret Service is blocking press at Sarah Palin's rallies, it appears Palin's staff is blocking her from listening to the press. Palin revealed at a fundraiser last night that she is in an ever-growing media bubble.

"So North Carolina, I appreciate you all so much, who are here who already get it. You know, maybe I'm preaching to the choir a little bit here, but being here encourages me because I know that I'm not alone and I'll send this message back to John McCain also. At those times on the campaign trail when sometimes it's easy to get a little bit discouraged, when, you know, when you happen to turn on the news when your campaign staffers will let you turn on the news," she said, prompting laughter from the group. "Usually they're like 'Oh my gosh, don't watch. You're going to, you know, you're going to get depressed.'"

She added that while she doesn't always appreciate the way reporters portray the GOP ticket, she's been bolstered by the prayers of many of the campaign's backers.

"But yeah, sometimes you do get depressed watching what it is that they're reporting and the spin and some of the distortion of what our message is and what we stand for. Sometimes that, that gets draining," she continued. "But it's at events like these and our rallies that we are so energized and inspired and we know that we are not alone. We feel your strength and we feel the power of prayer, so many of you tell us that you are praying for us and praying for our country and that's why we so appreciate you being here."

Palin also attributed polling numbers to God. "We even saw today, thank the Lord," she said, looking upwards and raising her fist, "We saw some movement."

Nice betraying home grown real values, a sense of honor and duty to one's country! Must not be very much fun handing around with a bunch of racist chauvinistic white males, it only works for you because money talks. It really is no fun being in that mix, been there, done that, happily free of that nonsense.

Whatever happens I'll be very proud of my American values, doing the right thing, supporting my friends and neighbors and those in need, having my son proudly serve in the US Army. Too bad friends part ways, my path has been rewarding, hard, but rewarding and gives one a sense of peace.

Her staffers aren't keeping her away from the news - she doesn't read or watch the news because she lacks the self-awareness and intellectual curiosity that she disdains in those she calls elitists. Y'know, people like our founding fathers.

The story here isn't about her apparent recurring depression, its about he complete lack of knowledge of current affairs and he inability to speak on any subject to a real reporter without being scripted.

Frankly, we should elect a parrot if that is the qualification she brings to the ticket. Most parrots are nicer.

Staffers keep her away so that Palin can't see the response her approach (actually, her handlers' approach) is generating. The "depression" she's feeling is probably the depression anyone feels when they are being ridiculed. I can't stand Palin for VP, but I actually AM curious what she's actually like. We'll never know until after the election, because everything she says is scripted. "Please no more about Joe The Plumber" she reportedly told her speechwriters. She ended up saying more about it anyway. Wow... a VP that's ONLY told what to do, even if it's against her wishes. And worse... she does it.

Both Sarah and Joe the Plumber were used by McCain's (Bush/Rove's) handlers. The problem is neither of them were vetted properly BEFORE they were hauled out like some prize catch. So while both Sarah and Joe are being savaged in the press and on every blog in the Universe, the egg is on McCain's face and on the faces of his pathetic campaign handlers who didn't have the brains to do their homework. Or, maybe I'm on to something--Maybe the good old boys wanted McCain to fail. Now that's a thought. It may take me some time to figure out WHY they would do that... Maybe they so outsmarted themselves, they ended up JUST PLAIN S-T-U-P-I-D.

Palin's 15 minutes of fame are over. The brief bump she provided with the evangelical right has been offset by her capacity to alienate republican moderates and undecided. Her appeal was largely visual. She has become a liability now. After November 4 she will fade back into obscurity and will soon become a trivia question at cocktail parties.

First she couln't identify ANY newspaper that she read NOW she can't watch the news? (This explains why she was unaware that her party/boss had pulled out of MI). I think what she failed to clarify is that they don't allow her to watch REAL news--she can, most likely, watch the bovine excretions they spew on the FOX network.
