I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Tina Fey joins David Letterman tonight, Friday, and a chunk of the interview is online with Fey talking about her impression of Sarah Palin, especially her voice:

She has a really crazy voice... Not since "Sling Blade" had there been a voice that anyone can do... [it's] a beautiful Alaskan windsong... It's a little bit "Fargo," a little bit Reese Witherspoon in "Election"... Seth Meyers puts a lot of Rs in, she really loves her Rs.

She also explains why it is not sexist and calls Palin a tough lady, "She kills things!"

Palin's pathetic and insult to every decent American. I hope that the SNL fans boo her out of the studio!

Sarah Palin is beautiful. Tina Fey has brown hair and glasses. That is as close as she will ever come to matching Gov. Palin's looks.

Tina Fey has traveled all around the world. Sarah Palin got her first passport last year and she can see Alaska from her house. I guess all things in life are not equal.

She's particularly "beautiful" when she's slaughtering defenseless animals from the sky.

I guess that depends what side of the aisle you're on. From where I'm sitting, Fey is the beautiful one.

See ya at the polls, sucka!

All I can say is, you have questionable taste in beauty. I'd ask Tina Fey out in a NY minute, and not just because she makes me laugh....

Well, to me, as a man, she would have been more beautiful if she was born mute! Cuz every time she opens her mouth, she become less attractive somehow! If I hear the word 'betcha' one more time, I think I will just go insane!

Tina Fey's impression is the only thing I find funny about Palin. The rest scares the hell out, especially when I think she would probably end up being president if McCain was elected.

The artistic community has a great role to play in shedding light on issues in a creative way. When politicians start appearing on tv shows for publicity, performers risk their artistic integrity.

Having Palin appear on SNL is like a human product placement in the middle of a beloved tv show. Her mere appearance is designed to transfer the positive feelings viewers have for the show to the product (in this case Palin).

In this case, the Palin brand of hate and division has become so well-identified that SNL risks having her brand influence transferred to them. If they handle her appearance sympathetically, it will be seen as an endorsement of her tactics and beliefs.

Due to the divisive tone of the McCain/Palin campaign, I no longer find this funny. Hanging effigies of Obama in trees in Ohio, Obama on food stamps with racists imagery and the frighteningly accusatory robocalls are over the line of decency. What's funny about that?

Is SNL ready to risk their 30 year old brand for a positive association with a politician who seems to be working tirelessly to divide this country for personal gain?

When i first saw and heard Sarah Palin, my thought was, "What a shame. If only that hardware had an operating system, she'd really be something."

What would Sarah Palin be were she blessed with intelligence as well as looks: Tina Fey.

Don't let an appearance on SNL, by Sarah Palin, be viewed by young undecided voters as 'hip'. This is tacit approval by NBC and SNL that for some reason she doesn't have to answer to the press (like every other candidate for high office), but can make these fluffy appearances and everything will be "hunky-dorey"! We more mature viewers know this is a grab for ratings, but not some of the younger less experienced viewers, who vote! Contact NBC and tell them you will not watch her!

Except for Eddie Murphy as Mr. Robinson, "I'm Gumby, Dammit!" & Buckwheat.

Murphy pretty much single-handedly made SNL legit again while he was there, despite the cheesy cornball comedy stylings of people like Joe Piscopo & Billy Crystal.

if they are old enough to vote then how in the hel! going to stop them from watching SNL. I will let my 15 yr old watch, then again he has been watching KO a lot lately so he gets what is going on. If you and your kids have conversations about what is going on then they will get what SNL is about. If not then you have bigger fish to fry then SNL or an election.. IMHO at least.

Dee, I'm in no way advocating that anyone should be stopped from viewing SNL. What I am saying is that by having Sarah Palin on, SNL is giving her air time that she does not deserve because she won't allow the news media to interview her anymore. That precludes anyone from "discussing" her views since we are unable to hear her answers questions about them. It isn't the young people who have someone reasonable to converse with that concerns me. It is the young uninformed voter who is also an SNL fan that may think her appearance is an endorsement by SNL and does have someone to tell them otherwise. She has proven herself to be a hate monger and she does not deserve this free exposure, "IMHO".

"We more mature viewers know this is a grab for ratings"

uhmmm, isn't that kinda what they do?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:23 PM on 10/17/2008

Yes, ratings are the name of the game in television, but there is also a thing called "social responsibility." SNL is having Sarah Palin on because of the novelty factor. However, her beliefs are so antithetical (nasty and hateful) to what SNL espouses that it is an obviously 'blatant' grab for viewers and it is an obvious grab by Sarah Palin for more 'nonthreatening' air time. It is disappointing! She may say something stupid, but the "Isn't she a good sport?" points she gains by being on a widely viewed liberal show and getting applauded, are worth it to her!

Actually, since SNL is live, I think that it's a good idea to have her on. She'll probably say something really stupid.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 06:59 PM on 10/17/2008

My hope is that they have some sort of green screen/blue screen think that she steps in front of and there is all sorts of funny things going on through the monitors that she can't even see. Or some sort of split screen chaos with Tina (Good Twin, Bad Twin).

Or they can have her do a skit...that she thinks is funny...but it then extends into something that makes her into an utter fool. Actually I kind of hope that they have her doing skits mocking Democrats, Obama, trying to suck up to plumbers named Joe.

If she refused to do a skit because it "mocked her" they could run a disclaimer stating that...and then have someone else do it.

It's a real Rorschach test whether a male (like me) finds Sarah Palin sexy ("hot" in current parlance) or not. I admit that for about 20 seconds, the answer in my case was "yes, definitely!" But once she opened her mouth, and started spouting that hateful right wing garbage thinly veiled behind her aw-shucks "small town America" facade, my admiration of her physical attributes vanished. Now her "good looks" actually make her more loathsome to me.
Tina Fey, on the other hand -- now, SHE's definitely hot!

My husband would buy you a beer.

His first reaction was, "Hey, she's hot...now who is she?"

Once the answers to that question started to come out he began to see her as this scary, conniving witch.

And that's why I love him. :)

Yeah, I can't watch Palin on SNL. I find it hard to laugh at someone who is really dangerous for this country. Some have called the nomination of Palin a treasonous act on the part of McCain. She is not funny. Tina Fey is funny. Not Palin.

I cut and pasted this from the a past comment so those of you who did not see it will have the opportunity to let SNL how you feel about the appearance-

If you'd like to contact SNL...

http://www.nbc.com/Footer/Contact_Us

I went there and felt so much better for letting my voice be heard! "NO TO SARAH PALIN ON SNL!"

I'm sure a lot of people will be tuning in out of curiosity/morbid fascination.

She's been so out of reach - she runs from public exposure that she doesn't have total control of. So I think people will watch...but not out of support.
