Tina Fey On Palin Impression: "She Has A Really Crazy Voice" (VIDEO)

Tina Fey joins David Letterman tonight, Friday, and a chunk of the interview is online with Fey talking about her impression of Sarah Palin, especially her voice:

She has a really crazy voice... Not since "Sling Blade" had there been a voice that anyone can do... [it's] a beautiful Alaskan windsong... It's a little bit "Fargo," a little bit Reese Witherspoon in "Election"... Seth Meyers puts a lot of Rs in, she really loves her Rs.

She also explains why it is not sexist and calls Palin a tough lady, "She kills things!"

I have never understood why people call her accent "Midwestern". I'm from Iowa and we definitely don't talk like that. Her accent sounds straight up Canadian to me.

I'm Canadian. That's not a Canadian accent. For that matter, I have never heard anything resembling the "Fargo" accent in Fargo (I lived in Winnipeg for a long time).

While I find Palin's voice as grating as her politics, her speech is not really unusual. She sounds like many people in the upper Midwest, very much like many Canadians, and very much like the people in Michigan's Upper Peninsula. Were it not for her politics, her voice would fit perfectly on A Prairie Home Companion. As a matter of fact, after she does SNL, maybe she could go on to do a Powdermilk Biscuit commercial. With moose sausage. Biscuits are very Alaskan. And man, they're tasty!
