Madonna Divorce

Just days after their divorce was confirmed, mud is flying in the battle of Guy Ritchie and Madonna. First she slammed the "emotionally retarded" at her first post-divorce concert while introducing a song about marital estrangement. Now, accusations are flying and Guy's dad has stepped in with harsh words for his daughter-in-law.

From the Telegraph:

Friends have told a newspaper that that the marriage first ran into serious difficulties in 2005 when Madonna fell from her horse. She suffered eight broken bones and felt that Ritchie showed "a complete lack of love and sympathy". She is said to have demanded in a recent argument: "Did you ever actually love me?"

In his first comments about the marriage split, Ritchie's father, John, said of the reports: "She is being beastly. She is saying, 'Did you ever love me?' It goes back to a time when she fell off her horse and she's blaming him for that. She's calling him an emotional retard. When he's being bashed by her it's horrid."

Madonna says Guy said she looked like a granny:

Lawyers for the singer, who was widely believed to be the dominant partner in the marriage, are putting together a dossier of incidents.

They include allegations that he told her she 'looked like a granny' on stage compared with her younger backing dancers. He is also alleged to have declared that she could not act, and was 'past it' after she turned 50.

Her lawyers say that 40-year-old Ritchie's comments made Madonna feel worthless, unattractive, unfeminine, insecure and isolated during their eight-year marriage.

The Mail has learned that Madonna's case will chronicle how she first fell for Ritchie because she felt he was a challenge and that he was tough enough to stand up to her.

However, she apparently soon started to become affected by her husband's alleged put- downs which eventually started to eat away at her legendary confidence.

Another report is about the tight ship Madonna ran at home and had extreme personal grooming habits:

Her irrational food fads and increasingly bizarre attempts to hold back time - via surgery, exercise and every therapy going - certainly helped to doom their marriage.

How could anyone expect Ritchie, a macho man who is fond of the pub and likes to shoot pheasant, to dine contentedly every night on quinoa grains and organic vegetable dumplings?

And how was he supposed to react when his wife took to retiring at night slathered in £500-a-pot cream and covered in a plastic body-suit to hold back the signs of ageing?

It now emerges that every aspect of life at the Ritchie residence in London was dictated by the lady of the house. Madonna, who embraced a macrobiotic diet in the early 1990s, told her chefs what was permitted: she chose the precise blend of Colombian coffee and tutted over the exact provenance of air-freighted Canadian blueberries.

Guy, then, has allegedly had to endure a life married to a 5ft 4in domestic tyrant whose rules apparently included no TV, no newspapers, and no welcome for his 'London' friends - sustained on a diet which would make a Hollywood starlet feel faint.

He had to drink his tea every day with rice milk, as dairy is banned.

I can imagine that Madonna had some pretty strict food rules.

That's never any fun.

Especially for the newly adopted child, David. Hasn't that child had enough abandonment in his life? Actually, I fell sorry for all involved. Breaking up a family breaks all hearts.

Seems like she married and he married the wrong person. Many of us have already learned, one can't change and control a person just because you are married to them. If you try you are doomed to failure.

She's a control freak? No kidding, but so is he. Red carpet footage over the years repeatedly showed Guy steering Madonna around, clamping her arm in a deathgrip. The guy strikes me as insecure. Of course he'd prefer to hang out in the pub where he feels superior (or at least equal) to people. Madonna was clearly out of his league.

I am a vegetarian and I care about whether or not my food is organic and fair trade. Does that make me a tyrant?

I mean honestly, her looks are her living, and she is conscious about her health. If you ask me, the people aren't conscious about it, they are the real crackpots.

Personally I do think that she should have more integrity about speaking her personal stuff in public. She should think of her children and not her pride. Keep the private stuff private.

It isn't about eating enough apples, it's about the extremes of faddishness. Being "conscious" of one's health is not the same as being a food trend evangelist. The former is healthy, the latter is intolerant. Of course, I'm sure none of us could associate Madonna with mindless trendiness . . .

It's one thing to be carefully about what you eat, its another thing to demand those around you do the same.

It's about imposing your rules on another. Who wants to go to bed with a glob of cream covered head to toe in plastic? Bet he and Sean Penn could raise a pint or two together.

There is nothing wrong with a 50-year-old wanting to be attractive, but there is something really sad about a menopausal woman trying to be 25. There is no sin in getting older. Women in show business are held to an impossible standard. As soon as they show signs of age, they are out. I think she chose the much younger man for the wrong reasons, and of course a failed marriage is the end result.

This is what happens when you get what you want.Madonna was always about the superficial and unimportant things in life. Looks, fame ,power and wealth. Her life has been a tragic waste of self indulgence and I'm sure she has infuenced many of her fans to follow her example. BTW its no surprise that she "dissed" Palin because Sarah is her polar opposite. In her "glory days" her fans were incapable of seeing what she really was all about.

Sarah Palin is her opposite? That woman is nothing but selfish and controlling and not for any superficial or entertaining motivations. Don't buy into her family first nonsense. Her oldest children have real problems. Like her or not I bet Madonna's children turn out better, since you like comparing.

I agree. If she could peform with a little more dignity instead of trying to look and act young. Somehow Tina Turner is hot and sexy without trying to be young and it works. And Tina is actually a grandma - go figure!

Who flippin cares? Everything she does is for publicity - even adopting children is done for more exposure than genuine caring. Millions of people divorce every day and all have some dirt to dish on the other so let it be a private matter and get back to focussing on what actually effects your life. The outcome of the Madonna/Guy divorce is not going to: get you a job; health care; an education for your children; security; respect and so on..... It will give Madonna: more exposure; more money; more power and an even bigger ego.

Wow if that does not sound familiar... eating away at self confidence... I dealt with that, being put down for regular day things like using toilet paper!!! Who does that to the one they love?? I couldn't even wipe my ass without being made to feel guilty!!!

Even the the most successful entertainers in the world can lose confidence when the one closest to you, her husband, put her down for her physical attributes. I personally think she looks great for 50, though could lay off the workouts a little, and soften her look.. but she always did that, just when you get older, collagen goes away and skin thins

Umm... Quick Question:

WHO GIVES A SH*T?!?!

The mere fact that this article was written (and I read it too!) AND posted on a journalistic site that I thought was above this kind of crap is yet another example of one of the symptoms of the disease that is destroying America! Celebrity worship and the general populous' herd mentality obsession toward the lives of a select few, whose business is really an extension of glorified court jesters only grossly overpaid, reveals our desperate need for distraction, escapism, and this country's ever declining intellectualism.

Where did all the poets go? The brilliant accomplished philanthropists? Where have all the REAL heroes (publicity) gone? This obsession with celebrity is actually a reflection of our need to escape the lies, I mean LIVES we live because reality is just too bad for most to acknowledge or deal with. Unfortunately, it also shows how many Americans would rather glance at the cover of People magazine than open and read a book, would rather vote for American Idol than for the American President.

We need to erase the addiction to unimportant other people's lives and focus on the real things in life that matter! This world is in poor enough shape for us all to concentrate on innumerable other vital issues than to engorge ourselves into obesity and reduce our brains to chutney by inactivity.

I concur.

However, considering the vastness of this thing called the internet, a story about this starlet or that celebrity hardly denotes the destruction of America. News is news, and its up to each of us individually to weed through the media diatribe and understand what is relevant and what is just fluff or Hollywood nonsense.

Suggestion: just don't click on the stories that clearly irk you.

Madonna can't act. She's horrible, and out of touch with reality to think otherwise.

I hope Rocco gets to stay with his dad. That's the only way the child is going to have a near normal existence.

Only they know what really went on inside their marriage, but some of her public choices are out there for everyone to see. The extreme attempt to turn back the clock is apparent to everyone. I live next door to Beverly Hills, where the stereotypical oldsters desperately trying to hide their age with dyed hair, starvation diets, and plastic surgery really do exist. It is pathological, and pathetic. Nobody is fooled as to their real age, and any attempt to argue that, well, at least this stuff makes them feel better about themselves is belied by the unmistakable insecurity they display. Madonna had an amazing run and was a change agent in both music and the larger culture, but from the outside she looks to be flubbing the transition into her golden years.

The denial is what's getting her. Look at Cher, Bette Midler, women who know how to take their age in hand. They humor self and and their audience, but Madonna's never, ever had a sense of humor about herself. I don't care how good she looks, she's too old for her stage image at this point. It's one thing to be 40 and still pretend you're 35, another entirely to be 50 going on 30.
