CONCORD, N.C. — Republican presidential candidate John McCain on Saturday accused Democratic rival Barack Obama of favoring a socialistic economic approach by supporting tax cuts and tax credits McCain says would merely shuffle wealth rather than creating it.

"At least in Europe, the Socialist leaders who so admire my opponent are upfront about their objectives," McCain said in a radio address. "They use real numbers and honest language. And we should demand equal candor from Sen. Obama. Raising taxes on some in order to give checks to others is not a tax cut; it's just another government giveaway."

McCain, though, has a health care plan girded with a similar philosophy. He proposes providing individuals with a $5,000 tax credit to buy health insurance. He would pay for his plan, in part, by considering as taxable income the money their employer spends on their health coverage.

McCain leveled his charge before a pair of appearances aimed at restoring his lead in critical battleground states. In both North Carolina and Virginia, where McCain was to speak later in the day, his campaign has surrendered its lead to Obama in various polls. President Bush, a Republican, won both states in 2004.

During a rally outside Charlotte, N.C., McCain returned to the socialism theme, although he did not use the more tart language of his radio address.

He also was sharply critical of the Bush administration, saying it should be more aggressive in buying up the home mortgages of those trapped by high interest rates and falling housing values.

"The administration is not doing it. The secretary of the Treasury is not doing it," McCain told the crowd. "We need to buy up these mortgages, give you a mortgage that you can afford, so you can pay your mortgage and realize the American Dream of owning your home."

McCain stoked the crowd by accusing Obama and his fellow Democrats of assuming they will not only win the White House but expand their congressional majority.

"Did you happen to see that Speaker (Nancy) Pelosi anticipates a 250-seat majority" in the House, the senator asked. "My friends, we can't let that happen. My friends, taxes will increase, spending and they'll concede defeat in Iraq."

The last Democratic candidate to win North Carolina was Southerner Jimmy Carter in 1976, when the Republicans were reeling from President Nixon's resignation following the Watergate scandal. Virginia has not voted for a Democratic nominee since President Johnson's landslide victory in 1964.

McCain's drop in the state polls follow larger national trends that have given Obama a lead following Wall Street chaos that focused the race on who is best equipped to restore the economy.

On Sunday, McCain was to travel to Ohio, where he might appear with "Joe the Plumber," the Holland, Ohio, plumber Joe Wurzelbacher whom the senator has been portraying as emblematic of people with concerns about Obama's tax plans.

Wurzelbacher became the focal point of the final presidential debate after he met Obama earlier in the week and said the Democrat's tax proposal could keep him from buying the two-man plumbing company where he works. However, reports of Wurzelbacher's annual earnings suggest he would receive a tax cut rather than an increase under Obama's plan.

Obama has said his tax policies would cut payments for 95 percent of working Americans, while increasing them only for families making more than $250,000 a year. McCain has argued that 40 percent of Americans don't pay income taxes, either because they are seniors or don't meet minimum earnings thresholds, so the only way to cut their taxes is to give them various credits.

"In other words, Barack Obama's tax plan would convert the IRS into a giant welfare agency, redistributing massive amounts of wealth at the direction of politicians in Washington," McCain said in the radio address.

An Obama spokesman did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Sliding Down the 'Slippery Slope' of 'Soft Socialism': If Obama Walks Like a Socialist and Quacks Like a Socialist, Then He IS a Socialist Duck!!

[The following articles discuss how closely aligned US Democratic Party Presidential candidate Barack Obama's radical policies are to the Social Democracies of Europe, Canada, Australia, etc. These countries lack a constitutional republican system of inherent checks and balances, accompanied by a bill of rights and declaration of independence that are based on preserving the sanctity of exclusive individual rights (not communal rights) and the right to equal opportunity (not the right to equal outcome/result). They lack the formative documents and institutions that can measure up to those bequeathed to and possessed by the American people. These assets have enabled America to remain a nation in the world without peers. But, it would appear that Mr. Obama and his radical policies would 'change' that status and relegate the U.S. to co-equal status internationally.
Based on the extensive research performed by the ITSSD since 2002, and corroborating evidence that has come to light since then, Americans should beware that if they elect Barack Obama as President of the United States, it is more than likely that he will cause the U.S. to slowly lose its national sovereignty and Americans to slowly lose their individual rights, primarily exclusive private property rights, as the U.S. slides down the slippery slope of 'soft socialism'...

"Social Democracy"

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Social_democracy

Capitalistic, market oriented, socially responsible, Social safety net, Democracy.

Look to the Swedes and their "middle Way"

To the GOP:

Anything that helps society is Socialism, Communist totalitarian Socialism like the USSR.

Roads, police, education....

The GOP says:

Privatize and Deregulate!

The rich do it every time , if we let them, the suck all the money out the system and crash the whole economy.

Industrialization and capitalism have built in exponential imbalances that, without progressive, redistributive , taxes makes the rich richer and poor poorer, faster and faster. It happened before the Depression the same way. Taxes on top income got lowered to 25% in 1925 leading to market bubbles and crashes. think of it this way: 10 times the average income has WAY MORE THAN TEN TIMES THE POWER TO MAKE MORE MONEY.

Please read up on the Great Depression with this time line:
http://www.hyperhistory.com/online_n2/connections_n2/great_depression.html

Deregulation and Low taxes CAUSED the bubbles then the crash.

We thrived with lot of regulations and a 74-92% top income tax rate from 1934 to 1962.

Government Public Works deficit spending is what ended the Depression.

I would not raise Capitol Gains or corporate tax very much. Nor should we impose large tariffs.

I. Introduction:

The following articles demonstrate efforts being undertaken by current and former public officials in Europe and the United States to sensationalize and exploit 'CRISES' (both real - financial and exaggerated - climate change) to justify the imposition, at the national, regional and global levels, of more public regulation of private economic activities. This pretense for more governmental control of peoples' private economic lives is NOT CONDITIONED ON the need to establish reasonable and fair 'rule of law' substantive and procedural benchmarks (verifiable empirical science, economic cost-benefit analysis, political checks and balances/balance of powers - accountability, transparency and 'due process) for the public benefit and consistent with individual rights. Unfortunately, the strict rules and regulations called for will, no doubt, impair individual rights and national sovereignty. They also fall outside the requirements of due process, transparency and political accountability which are guaranteed to ALL U.S. citizens by the U.S. Constitution and its accompanying Bill of Rights.

These 'leaders' implore their public constitutents to simply 'trust' in their knowledge, judgment, foresight and grandiose 'reputations' when, in reality, it is precisely their LACK OF wisdom, knowledge, foresight, sincerity and judgment that we all should be suspect of and concerned about!

I recently came across a blog entry on Minority Report.com that seems to verify that if Obama embraces for America European-style regulatory and tax policies that are 'socialist' in nature, then Obama, by definition, is a 'socialist', OR is courting socialism. See:

''Yes We Can' - 'Crises' Used as Pretense for EURO-Socialist Global Governance Wealth Redistribution - 'Change We Can Believe In'"

OUTLINE

I. Introduction

II. European and Certain U.S. Leaders Are Using the Exaggerated Climate 'Crisis' as a Pretense for Strict New Global Governance Wealth Redistribution Regulations to Save the World from the Enviromental Externalities 'Triggered' by Anglo-American Market-based Capitalism

III. European and Certain U.S. Leaders Have Characterized the Current Financial 'Crisis' as One of Capitalism', and Are Using it as a Pretense to Reform Global Financial Markets as Part of an Overall Effort to Create a NEW Global Governance Regime Intended to 'Save' Anglo-American Market-based Capitalism From Itself'

IV. European and Certain U.S. Leaders Have Called for Global Financial Governance Reforms Based on Feared Similarities Between the Causes of 19th Century Globalization and the Current Era of Globalization. Certain U.S. Leaders Also Seek to Use This 'Crisis' as an Opportunity to Complete Their Long-Term 'European Experiment' Gone Awry

Let's see now. If wealth redistribution equals socialism, I wonder which states benefit the most from our current form of socialism. We can rank the states by their return on federal tax dollar, calculated by dividing adjusted federal spending by federal tax burden for each state. Here's the top ten:

2.02 Mississippi
2.00 New Mexico
1.85 Louisiana
1.83 Alaska (where Caribu Barbie calls home)
1.65 North Dakota
1.51 Kentucky
1.51 Virginia
1.48 South Dakota
1.43 Hawaii
1.43 Montana

Surprise, surprise. It appears that except for Hawaii, the states that benefit from our current federal wealth redistribution scheme are states that traditionally vote Republican. One guess on which states are at the other end of the list ... That'd be the blue states, Bob.

Why is it that using tax payer' money to help the middle class and the poor is socialism and terrible and anti-american but using taxpayer money to help the wealthy is not?

The pharmaceutical industry howls about the money they spend in research; however also howl about being held accountable when their research is inadequate. They are simply selling the American people a snow job. They want it both ways. CORPORATE SOCIALISM!

The oil industry howls about not having enough drilling opportunities and yet has not exploited the 63 million acres that they already have. Not only that, but they do not have the refining capabilities to deal with the oil when they get it. THEY ARE GREEDY. And this is a industry that McCain wants to subsidize? CORPORATE SOCIALISM!!!

Then the lions’ share of corporations have been rewarded for sending our manufacturing jobs overseas. Our jobs and our tax dollars are going overseas, and we are supposed to subsidize these A-holes. These traitor corporations are dodging taxes and collecting from middle class Americans while they’re shipping our jobs overseas and funding McCain’s campaign!

IT IS CALLED CORPORATE WELFARE AND IT UNDERMINES THE PRINCIPLES OF A FAIR MARKET!

Not convinced?

How about the bundling of the banking industry? How about FannieMae, and FreddieMac? Hey, let’s reward unsustainable corporate behavior by bailing them out and telling the hardworking taxpayer that might not have read the fine print for they TRUSTED their broker to SUCK IT UP! Oh yeah! That sure is the free market checks and balances that we are supposed to TRUST. The CORPORATE SOCIALISM will sure bail out the unsustainable corporations while telling American citizens to Fluck themselves.

Wake up!

Yessiree, corporate Marxism and socialist corporate welfare is the name of the game in Republican leadership.

It is absolutely a SIN for AMERICAN TAXPAYERS money to go to AMERICAN TAXPAYERS. No f***ing way folks. Our tax dollars are going to go to the corporations that funnel campaign $$$$s into the candidates that are willing to dance to the corporate puppet masters.

THINK ABOUT IT AMERICA!

Corporate socialism is the name of the 21st century attempt at politicizing every aspect of our American power broker system—IF THEY HAVE THEIR WAY!

They want you to think that they know better. They want you to think that you need to be quiet, shut-up, and follow; for they will keep you safe, they will keep your submissive, they will keep you subservient.

THINK ABOUT IT AMERICA!

The American people are ABSOLUTELY getting fleeced by SOCIALIST. However they are being fleeced by CORPORATE SOCIALISM.

It is the brand of socialism that allows Wall Street to feast on the hopes of the American people and call them whiners when their misdeeds float to the surface.

It is the brand of socialism that parachutes the guilty and demeans the victim.

It is the brand of socialism that rewards corporations that send our jobs overseas.

It is the brand of socialism that expects workers to work at wages that require them to attain food-stamps in order to feed their families.

It is the same brand of socialism that requires employees to go the EMERGENCY room of healthcare facilities in order to have a fever treated due to the fact that the immoral corporations do not provide adequate healthcare, or they immorally make sure that their employees are part time and therefore not eligible for benefits.

And these are the same corporations that EVADE TAXES BY SHIPPING THEIR MANUFACTUING JOBS OVEARSEAS.

They are traitors.

I think the corporations are coming so dangerously close to melding with the government and how is that different from communism?

They are fleecing us into a situation that puts us into the pockets of communist China. First they took our hard earned tax dollars and funneled it to Halliburton/KBR and Blackwater, and this is after they enable a trade deficit for several decades, now they're going to siphon what's left to the banking industry, while having the audacity to want to HIRE THE SAME CORRUPT INDIVIDUALS TO COME UP WITH A PLAN TO FIX THINGS!!

America, you need to wake up and TRULY FIGHT FOR OUR FREEDOMS. LIKE FREEDOM OF THE PRESS!!!

Corporations would love to see us subjugated to the same extent that the Chinese citizenry is--don't you all get it? They are subjugating us--taking away our power. We need to stop them. NOW!!

How can we possibly trust corporate media to give us the "straight talk" about corporate corruption.

This is corporate socialism and these deceivers are traitors.

We need a national conversation about taxes. Taxation is not about class warfare and socialism; it's about Americans investing in the future of our country. If we want the best infrastructure, schools, and military, etc. in the world, IT COSTS.

All tax cuts and no revenue makes Uncle Sam very broke.
