ACORN Offices Get Racist, Violent Threats After McCain Claims

It's bad enough that the employees of ACORN have had to endure days of baseless and outlandish attacks by John McCain and the RNC. But after McCain outrageously claimed before a national audience on Wednesday night that ACORN was "maybe perpetrating one of the greatest frauds in voter history in this country, maybe destroying the fabric of democracy," the group came under attack, literally. In the following days, ACORN's Boston and Seattle offices were vandalized and at least one employee received a death threat.

And for nearly two weeks, ACORN offices across the nation have been subjected to an onslaught of racist and threatening voicemails and emails. We have secured copies of some of the most disturbing and offensive messages and have reproduced them below in order to show the very real consequences of the Right Wing's overheated and misplaced "voter fraud" rhetoric.

Phone call, mail and e-mail that threaten physical harm are criminal acts under federal law. The FBI should be contacted and investigating. The perps should be tracked down and prosecuted. As for McC, Palin and their campaign staff are not stupid. They know their attacks are encouraging others to violence. Their plan is to create unrelenting attacks on Obama during his term(s) as President. They hope to make the seige against the Clintons (1993-2001) look like kids play.

And how many of those registrants are going to vote? Answer: zero. ACORN is required by law to turn in all completed forms even if they are certain that they are fake. They make note that the forms are fake and those are not registered if they are found to be fake. And, how many of those Disney characters have been counted in the independent polls that show Obama way ahead? Get back to me on that. I'm curious.

Voter Suppression, those are the key words. There are not enough republicans to win nationally, so the registered democrats need to have their votes reduced and independents mislead with FUD. Part of this leads some to very negative thoughts and actions, including these emails, phone calls, and, at its worst, violence. The McCain campaign and associated entities have kept up negative attacks which just reinforces the thoughts of these disturbed people. McCain saying once or twice that he isn't an Arab or that they should not be afraid of Obama as president does not change this.

Up until now, I haven't been bothered much by the lies that the GOP have been spewing. After all, if I hated Obama as much as I'm sure they do, is their any lie I wouldn't tell to keep him out of power? If by lying about Bush in 2000 I could have avoided the unnecessary deaths that happened as a result of the mishandling of Katrina and Iraq (never mind all the other garbage that he brought us), is there any lie that I shouldn't have told? I imagine that's how they view Obama, and as disgusted as I am by them, I kind of understand their thinking.

But going after ACORN? ACORN is an organization that for nearly 40 years has done exactly the type of good work the Republican Party claims it believes is critical but best handled by the private sector. Throwing an organization like ACORN to the rabid wolves of the Republican rank & file is reprehensible. If you believe that attempting to destroy an organization like ACORN is reasonable in attempting to win the presidency, what exactly is it that McCain is working for?
