Republican Convention

Here's some good news for Republican voters in Minnesota's Sixth District. There is absolutely no need for any of you to cast your vote for incumbent Representative Michelle Bachmann, who is an embarrassment to herself and the people of Minnesota, with her awfulness.

Bachmann's recent remarks, that the media should perform a witch hunt to determine which members of Congress are "pro-America or anti-America," have so incensed her primary opponent, Aubrey Immelman, that he has decided to jump into the race as a write in candidate.

Declaring himself to be an "alternative for disillusioned Republicans," he writes on his website:

Thank you for your support in helping me lead the charge in Minnesota's 6th Congressional District against the destructive neocon ideology that has mired the United States in an unnecessary war in Iraq at a cost of thousands of American lives, hundreds of billions in taxpayer dollars, and untold damage to the international stature of the United States of America.

And, as if incumbent Rep. Michele Bachmann's enthusiastic support for these policies is not damaging enough, she now appears to be calling for a witch hunt to "find out [which members of Congress] are pro-America or anti-America." We cannot tolerate this festering brand of neo-McCarthyism in our midst.

Immelman's decision comes on the heels of the news that Bachmann's idiocy led to a gigantic fundraising boost for her Democratic opponent, El Tinklenberg, who raised $438,000 in twenty-four hours. Hopefully, one of these gentlemen shall succeed in removing this Hydatid cyst from the American Legislature.

Last night I saw a youtube video of Michelle Bachmann "clarifying" her position on a local station. She went on and raised some more outrageous claims that Obama will end one-person-one-vote. The video lasted only 27 seconds and cut off mid sentence. Can someone check this and pursue it for us and possibly forward it to the Dems. Thanks.

Ms. Bachmann is the result of Rove politics, Sean Hannity and other hate-mongers on the radio and TV airways. Unfortunately, there are many more who think as she spoke and they feel empowered by the harshness of Republican politics. Conservative thinking is not synonymous (sp) to the neo-con thinking and polarization of America and its politic.

What is complexing is how those who dare call themselvs true Christians can so easily align themselves to the narrownest and hatred spewed on self-labled "Conservative" television and radio.

I disagree with donating only to Bachman's Democratic opponent - I know nothing about him or Minnesota politics. I am happy that this Republican is getting back in the race and if the people of that district want a Republican, they should consider Aubrey Immelman.

Although I am a Democrat, I don't think that a pure-Democrat Congress would be good for the country. There are Republicans that I admire and Republican ideas that I think are worthwhile. I hope the Republican party comes back from the far-right ledge they've taken themselves to and becomes the party that a Colin Powell can be proud of. That's the party of William F. Buckley and Ronald Reagin - both would be ashamed of what has been done to their party.

A two-party Congress is an asset for our country!

Did the republicans not control both house, senate and presidency in 2001 and fortunate America is still standing.

One thing to keep in mind is that a Democratic majority in congress is not under anywhere near as much control as a Republican majority. We tend to be a bit like herding cats there because our base is much more diverse ideolgicallyl and politically. In this case the more Democrats in Congress the better.
I hope the fact of Immelman's return will split the Republican vote and give victory to Tinklenberg.

You say, there are Republicans that [you] admire and Republican ideas that [you] think are worthwhile".

As a lefty, left, leftist to the MAX, I liked Reagan, as well as Bush Sr. very much, but these days there are only a couple that I now like somewhat (Hagel & Specter), but to say that, "Republicans have ideas that are worthwhile"? Now that's stretching it!

Fortunately, or unfortunately depending on how you look at it, there are enough Bush-Democrats to serve as opposition to liberals in congress should the Republicans *gasp* ALL be defeated.

"I hope the Republican party comes back from the far-right ledge they've taken themselves...."

Removing Bachmann from Congress is a huge step in that direction. I have a feeling other members of Congress will be less likely to engage in the politics of divisiveness (by using fear and hate) after seeing how the public has reacted to Bachmann's comments. Let her be a lesson to all those politicians thinking about engaging in Rovian tactics.

The U.S. is going down the drain because of the Republicans pushing for a divided America. If you are not on their side, you are un-American.

Keep supporting her DEMOCRATIC opponent. We don't need another closet republican taking her place with the same ideas hidden behind a white sheet in his mind.

If Immelman takes Republican votes away from Bachmann (i.e. splits the R vote) that can still help the Dem candidate. That said, I'm doing what I can to support Tinklenberg, and I hope others will as well.

Michelle Bachmann is a member of a "Prosperity Gospel" church in Minnesota, you know, the same brand of christianity (small "c" intentional) that Sarah Palin belongs to.
These Blasphemers fraudulently claim that "Jesus wants you to be wealthy, and will reward you with earthly riches if you worship Him (and tithe 15% to the church.)"
I guess they have never even READ the New Testament.
You know, "casting out the moneylenders", "a rich man cannot enter heaven", "feed the hungry", "clothe the poor", etc. etc.

She keeps talking about "people who hate America". This phrase never gets contested. Also, the phrase "domestic terrorist" is being bandied around without challenge. I would like to challenge BOTH of these phrases:

If you hate the folks running the government - that does not mean you hate America. If you are anti-war, even violently so, it does not mean you hate America. No supporter of Thomas Jefferson would equate advocating the overthrow of the current American government, by force if necessary, with being anti-American. Actually, it is about as American as you can get. We aren't interested in fascism or totalitarianism - we are interested in freedom and liberty to be as we would like.

Then we have "domestic terrorist". Does anyone want to bother defining the word "terrorist"? Bill Ayers might be a lot of things, but he is not a terrorist - because he was NEVER trying to use terror as a tactic. What he was, was a violent protestor - as a matter of fact, he felt that he was at war with the government - a government he perceived as being "anti-American"!

I am not advocating violence or Ayers. I am tiring of the Orwellian "doublespeak" that seems to permeate these discussions - unchallenged.
