Charleston Gazette:

Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain".

Democrats in these states need to record video of the screens as they're voting. Then send the video to the national media. End of problem. Unless it's illegal, of course. Is it illegal to record yourself voting? Hopefully not.

Better yet, just invalidate all the early votes and tell everyone that if they want to vote they can do so on election day and that they should insist on a paper ballot. Then make sure that there are lots of Democratic lawyers keeping an eye on the polling places.

For 15 years, my family's business has been touch-screen software. We have never had a complaint about the software "flipping" a user's selection to another selection. Certainly, software can be programmed to flip end-user selections, but if programming fraud were involved it would most likely have been done in such a way that the user would not have been aware of the flip. The most likely explanation, in my opinion, is that the touchscreen was not properly calibrated or was intentionally miscalibrated. Voters who touched on a certain area of a button to select Obama could suffer the effects of a miscalibration and voters who touched other areas of the button might not.

The deliberate "miscalibration tactic" sounds right to me. Even if 9 out of 10 people catch the error, that 1 in 10 is enough to swing the election.

I guess that means the election is over already. It's 2000 all over again. McCain/Palin are in. Unless, god forbid, the Demcrats got mad and did something about it.

Comcast digital On Demand has an excellent documentary "Uncounted" that illustrates how voting machines are rigged to flip to the candidate of choice, voter suppression (voting machines that purposely break down), how machines are locked in rooms (stalling voting) to inhabit voter's from voting before going to work, or making voter's wait in long lines for hours, and poll worker's not trained to operate the machines when something goes wrong. Thank God we have paper ballot's in Michigan.

Read the article. Pretty odd stuff. Two cases of a voter AND their son/daughter having this happen. Must be a family thing.

I think if the machines were rigged to change a vote, they wouldn't have the vote magically "change" right there before your eyes. That makes no sense at all to me.

If it's electronic it can be rigged, as someone said previously it's hard to rig paper ballots!

Don't say this.

Traders are cooking their books for a thousand years, already.

Where's a will, there's a way.

Sealing a paper ballot election requires a lot more manual labor. With the machines, the presidency is only a "mouse click" away.
05:10 PM on 10/20/2008
There's an easy fix for this.

PAPER BALLOTS.

If it hadn't been for paper ballots Kennedy would never have been president and LBJ would never have been elected to Congress.

Why bother to vote in this kind of a nation?

Hopefully.

CNN has set up a hotline for this kind of stuff. You could be famous.

"If you notice any trouble at your polling place on Election Day, we want to hear about it. Please call CNN’s Voter Hotline 1-877-462-6608"

If you have a video camera, be a poll watcher, even if you already voted. We need to watch out for each other on election day.

God - are you people really so surprised that,
IF electronic voting can be rigged, then it WILL.

Do you think the neo-cons are going to allow a free election to end their control,
without doing everything in their power to manipulate it?

Do you think people stood in line for 3 hours in 2004 to vote for an incumbant????
