Charleston Gazette:

Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain".

Several have posted that this doesn't matter because O will win anyway. Even if that were true (I wouldn't dare be so confident)...

WHAT ABOUT THE DOWN TICKET RACES? Of course they are cheating on those too!!!

Take a video camera into the voting booth and film all this.

I expect that this won't be the last time we hear about something like this between now and November 4th. But Obama support is coming out in such huge numbers that in the end, it won't make a difference.

Another suggestion:
Vote early. Then, volunteer for the campaign as a poll monitor. I'm sure there are whole teams of people who will be doing this...
Don't get mad, get even!

We have become a third world banana republic. how is it I can use my atm card all over the world with never an error but simple choices on a ballot are SOOOOOOO difficult to keep track of and record? We all saw this sham happening as the last couple of years have gone by. On the local level, republicans know most people wont do anything about it. And this time, the plan seems to be to have voter error manipulated EVERYWHERE so authorities can't keep up with the fraud.

Cell phone cameras and video is everywhere....record your vote record the faulty machines....

Where are all the democratic voting legal beagles we have heard about for the last year? Where's the dem media machine on this? I haven't heard a word on the news of this fraud and it should be loud because this crap is gonna happen on a nationwide basis.

Excellent Comment. Everyone: Bring your cameras, video cameras, cell phones, recorders with you to the polls.

All the supposed news about Acorn and voter fraud is really the Republicans blowing smoke up youknowwhere. For one, Acorn's issue is voter REGISTRATION fraud which has never been a serious problem in U.S. elections, and will not be this time around. Acorn turned in those registrations, as they required to do for all registrations, properly filled out or not. They even flagged those registrations which they believed to be fraudulent. Republican complaints with regard to Acorn are intended to create a smokescreen of sorts behind which various attempts at excluding legitimate citizens from the polls are taking place.

The real issue is not voter registration fraud (or supposed voter fraud) but voter suppression, a crime that has long been associated with U.S. elections. Whether it is done by way of electronic manipulation (a relatively new method of suppression) or by not allowing qualified U.S. citizens to vote, we must be on our toes this time around. Bring your cameras to the polls and, if you see anything untoward taking place, whip it out and begin filming. Your work could be important evidence that will lead to convictions and prison time.

Yes we can!

ATMs....took the words right out of my mouth leevntheus. Maybe they should let the ATM manufacturers build the voting machines.

No way can I believe this is simple machine error when we use similar devices without major incidentsfor everyday needs such as Home Depot self service scanners, ATMs, and even the touch pad machines at the gas pumps.

I doubt it has a major effect on the presidential results, but I'm worried that it will tilt congressional and local elections that might go more unnoticed. This is definitely intentional manipulation.

Call and enter the two letter state you are calling ABOUT. by default it selects the state with the area code on your phone so select #2 and then the state, like WV for this problem.

ANYTIME you read or hear or see a problem, call this number. They have attorneys who will handle it directly. MAKE SURE YOU ENTER THE STATE WHERE THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING.

1-866-OUR-VOTE
1-866-687-8686 option 2 and enter the state you are talking about.

In the manufacturing business, touch-screen-monitors on computerized milling machines and lathes are a common feature for decenniums, already.

They work ABSOLUTELY FLAWLESS under the harshest conditions: Heat, cold, moisture, dirt, vibrations - whatever.

Those industrial touchscreens and the connected computers hav a ZERO-MISTAKE-TOLERANCE. They have to - because, otherwise, you could never manufacture parts for aircraft, cars, trains and even Space Shuttles on them!

Even many military and civilian aircraft use such items in their cockpits, already!

So anyone D.A.R.E come forward and tell me, it was impossible to built an electronic voting machine, that was manufactured after the same quality standards as industrial machines!

L.I.A.R.S! THE WHOLE B.U.N.C.H.!

You're looking at this problem from the wrong perspective!

Of course it is possible to build perfectly working voting machines. But that really isn't the issue here, the REAL problem is that these things CAN NOT be made 100% fraud proof! That's the issue!

GET RID OF THE MACHINES!

DEMAND a return to paper and red pencil! DEMAND that the whole process is overseen by members of both party's! DEMAND that this CORNERSTONE of your democracy is as free from fraud as is technically possible by throwing MODERN techniques OUT of the process!

I mean, come on, it's your ELECTION, it's not a day at the races...

A few things to note...
- We don't NEED WV to win (though it would be grand to add this state to the Blue list!)
- Early Voting is a good indicator of any problems
- Think about the legal ground game. Team O will be on top of this quickly I'll bet.

Reading this article and the comments following it, most commentors had the same question I did.

If it is simply a matter of a machine malfunction, or problems with how the voters use the machines, why have there been ZERO complaints about the machines switching from a Republican candidate to a Democratic one?

but we already know the answer. The officials are already taking the stance of "It's not our fault that Democrats are so stupid they are unable to touch a button with a candidates name on it."

Didn't the Democrats in Congress pass HAVA in 2002 - (voting electronically without a paper trail) -

I believe the Republicans were laughing at their foolishness when the bill passed!

I guess we could send Michael Lunsford from Fairfield Township, OH to check it out. He is the guy that feels it is OKAY to hang an OBAMA from his tree with a noose.

Would that be OKAY GOP????

um question: what is the DNC doing about this? are they going to wait until nov 5?

Thats a really good question Sheri. It has occurred to me that if the Democratic leadership wanted clean elections we would have them.

O's campaign need to put poll watchers in every WV polling place. I don't trust the repubs!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:35 AM on 10/20/2008

I agree. Here's what I'd do: I'd vote early, and on Nov 4, go to the closest swing state and make sure things are going fairly. Whether it's the machines switching the votes or having local authorities scare away voters, someone needs to call that out. It might as well be now, too.

Seriously, though, the paper trail should be in effect for all machines. No voter should leave the voting booth unsure about the vote they just submitted.

And they may well do it.

At least Obama has the $$ to challenge. He seems to know where to hit too, after his immediate response to the leaked FBI investigation of ACORN.

We are in a coup de etat` and it's going ot be hard to get out. I think a lot of people, even on the Reich-wing are getting nervous about the GOP. I hope that will make a difference this time Barack is much more impressive than Kerry and Kerry won in a landslide, he just didn't have the legal basis to challenge ( probably because everyone was still in denial). That may be different this time around.

Note: DHS IS preparing for civil unrest after the elections. Now, why d'ya suppose THAT might be????

LISTEN EVERYBODY:

T-O-D-A-Y, START A M-A-S-S-I-V-E CHAIN E-MAIL TO E-V-E-R-Y NAME IN YOUR E-MAIL ADDRESS BOOK, WARNING PEOPLE TO (A) DEMAND TO USE A NON-ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINE IF ONE IS AVAILABLE, EVEN IF IT MEANS WAITING LONGER TO USE IT AND (B) CHECK AND DOUBLE-CHECK THE CONFIRMATION SHEET FOR THEIR VOTE.

IT'S OBVIOUS THAT REPUBLICAN EFFORTS TO RIG ELECTRONIC VOTING MACHINES ARE ALIVE AND WELL AGAIN THIS YEAR, SO PEOPLE NEED TO BE SUPER, SUPER VIGILANT, AND MAKE SURE THEIR VOTE IS BEING TALLIED ACCURATELY.
