Charleston Gazette:

Three Putnam County voters say electronic voting machines changed their votes from Democrats to Republicans when they cast early ballots last week.

This is the second West Virginia county where voters have reported this problem. Last week, three voters in Jackson County told The Charleston Gazette their electronic vote for "Barack Obama" kept flipping to "John McCain".

You WVirginians voting dem better ask for a paper ballot! This is the same thing that happened in Florida. Haven't we learned yet? NO TOUCHSCREEN MACHINES, they're garbage.

The Florida Dem's pushed hard for a paper trail (for ballots), which is what got them in the jam during the primaries. From what I understand, the state bill that authorized paper trails for ballots had an attached line that moved the primary date. The Florida Dem's were forced to vote yes on the date change in order to have the paper trail portion of the bill go through.

I have to say, I have since developed respect for the tenacity and hardwork of the Florida Dem's. All other states ought to follow suit! The Republicans stole two elections and only the Floridians did something about it.

Why doesn't someone go into the booth and use their cell phone or somethign else to video the situation? That would surely refute the accusation that the voter just messed up. Republicans have extensive experience in using these machines to steal elections. There was an expose done a few years back showing exactly how the did it in Florida by doctoring the memory device ahead of time. We really have no business using any system in this country that doesn't involve a hard copy record of the vote; either filled out by the voter in the process or printed out for them prior to submission.

And you'd better believe that if I see ANYTHING questionable, I am calling attention to it then and there.

I don't know if anyone has thought of that, but if they did what you suggest, it would really bring this to light!

How do we get a message to the good people of W.V.??

Take a higher-quality digital video camera (lots of newer digital cameras have this functionality). The results will be far better and the evidence will be even more damning.

If you have problems voting at your local precinct site, don't just go home, go to your central election board office in your city, report the problem, and vote in person there. This election is too important to just give in and give up. We must fight. Word on the ground is that Obama will win the election, but that the GOP will challenge the results and steal it.

And for goodness sake, DONT use the machine, use the PAPER ballot, if you have a choice. Then you don't have to worry about a corrupt machine.

This exemplifies the difference between what ACORN is doing (VOTER REGISTRATION FRAUD) and Republicans are doing (VOTER FRAUD)...

Instances of registration fraud is a far cry from what the GOP is doing with regards to voter fraud...After all Mickey Mouse will not show up at any poll to vote...But rigging machines is a horse of different color...STINKS TO HIGH HEAVEN......

By far the most hypocritical party I've ever seen! I'm stunned at the "do what I say, not what I do" attitude!

Why aren't they getting called out on this more?

Just to clarify, not criticize...ACORN is being accused of registration fraud, but there is no evidence that they are involved in any scheme to register ineligible voters. This kind of fraud is being perpetrated on them as much as it is on the Boards of Election.

Did we really think the Right-wing machine spent 30 years and billions of dollars creating this Federalist-inspired slavery empire just to watch it all crumble in an election where the voters most of the GOP fascists consider ignorant and not worthy of voting?

Think about this, do you really think they are really going to relinguish their power to a "Populist" candidate???

They will not let this happen peacefully. If they pull another Ohio and fraudulently put McCain in and surrender like in 2000, it's time for violent revolution.

Yes, I said it.

Is this really what they're asking for ... violent revolution ... it's clear to me if they attempt to publicly commandeer yet another american election in the same models of 2000 Flordia & 2004 Ohio revolution is what they want!?

Obama is a very nice person ... but, if they think that he's nice enough to allow them to steal this election from him ... they'd better get ready for the brilliance WE NEED !!!

Not willingly, no. I keep remembering accounts of voter intimidation during the initial plebiscites in fascist Germany and later in Austria prior to the Anschluss at which SA members were either standing around or telling people how to vote. The GOP has achieved the same by simply changing people's recorded votes while trying to make the contest as close as possible to legitimize any questionable results.

Call and enter the two letter state you are calling ABOUT. by default it selects the state with the area code on your phone so select #2 and then the state, like WV for this problem.

ANYTIME you read or hear or see a problem, call this number. They have attorneys who will handle it directly. MAKE SURE YOU ENTER THE STATE WHERE THE PROBLEM IS OCCURRING.

1-866-OUR-VOTE
1-866-687-8686 option 2 and enter the state you are talking about.

Regardless of who wins this election, we need election reform. We are at the mercy of biased voting machines by pro-Repub companies, i.e., Diebold (or whatever they call themselves now), Sequoia, etc. GET RID OF THE MACHINES! Our Canadian neighbors use paper ballots, pencil, and oversight of counters by both (all) parties AND they have the results of the election by midnight. The citizen oversight could be selected like juror's. It's not about Republican or Democrat, but right and bradblog.comblog.com

the polls are favoring Obama in WV, but th voting machines are favoring Mccain. this has happened in Wheeling, WV too. it is truly shameful. For one the ogden press prints terribly slanted articlaes favoring Mccain, and the Obama supporters are in an uproar asking for more news as far as rallies. for instance, Dan Rooney, the owner of the Pittsburgh Steelers was in town on Sat. Not one news article on it until after the fact, and on the 6th page of the paper. When Palin was here, 3 articles on the front page. soooo, now here is WV wenot only get slanted news, we can't even depend the votes are being recorded right.

Serious question, Why is there never reports of votes going from GOP to Dem? Probably because we DON'T CHEAT.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 08:57 AM on 10/20/2008

here's what we need:

1. Get private business out of the election business. THIS should be a GOV'T FUNCTION!
2. Voting machines should print a paper receipt. Any machine that does not should not be used.
3. Every election worker should have a opposite party counterpart.
4. The election system security should be run like the US Mint. It's that important.
5. Voter fraud at the machine level should carry a mandatory life imprisonment.
6. Voter fraud on levels higher than that should carry the potential of the death penalty.
7. All machines should be tested with a 500 vote verified process each and every time they are used.
8. Any machine that does work 100% of the time must not be used.
9. All supervisor of elections positions should be expanded to include 1 repub, 1 dem, and 1 independent board.

Excellent points!

Why does a private business (Diebold) have a monopoly over the voting machines (and the programming code)?

Republican owned and operated Diebold

I'll add a few more points

Early voting in all states for three weeks prior to the national election date
100% access to paper ballots in all voting stations.
More than one or two lines.
early voting negates the need for voter machines. They cannot be trusted.
I think that you also should have the choice to send in a paper ballot.

many many people of this nation don't have four or five hours to wait in line. and if we want to encourage more voter turn out - you have to get rid of this deterrent.

A voter in Simi Valley, CA said the mail in ballots for registered republicans require 79 cents postage and the ballot for registered independents required 59 cents. She was concerned that the 59 cents on the packet info would not be enough and the ballot wouldn't be delivered. More voter fraud?

All depends on whether the Republican ballot had extra pages for strictly Republican issues. What was the postage on the Democratic ballot?

Sick and tired of these republicans stealing elections. And we see the result. A few of these thugs like Ken Blackwell, Ohio's former king of elections, should be investigated and thrown in jail. And McCain speaks of country first. This is not America anymore. It belongs to a handful of criminals who want to continue to loot the Treasury. Would someone tell them that it is dry. We now need thinkers to dig us out of the quagmire that republicans have put us in. We do not need a little old man who graduated at the bottom of his class and a woman who barely graduated from a class-- to determine our futures.

The republican election official says "it is an isolated incident." As if isolated and occasional voter fraud is excusable. This is America, not some second-rate banana republic. Every vote counts!
