New RNC Mailer: Obama Let Newborns Die

I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The Republican National Committee is blasting out a new mailer charging that Barack Obama opposed a bill protecting newborns that survived botched abortions from being "left alone to die" in the operating room.

Two readers in North Carolina passed along the literature, which they received on Saturday.

The charge, which has been made many times before (including in a series of robocalls earlier this week), is based on Obama's opposition to the Born-Alive Infant Protection bill. A review by PolitiFact found the accusation "false." Obama opposed the measure not based on a callous position on abortion rights, but because he wanted to ensure that there were measures to protect doctors from criminal lawsuits, among other factors. Illinois law already required doctors to provide immediate life-saving care to such infants.

The sole source of the mailer is an article from The Weekly Standard, and it paints Obama as far more extreme than other senior Democrats, including John Kerry and Hillary Clinton. Talking Points Memo reported a robocall on the same topic earlier this week.

As always, if you receive any political mailers or phone calls, please let us know.

I think the RNC and McCain campaign are trying to get Obama killed. They will certainly have some blood on their hands if anything happens. This is heinous, and they are suppose to be leaders. What a hypocrisy.

Did you notice they darkened his skin? I got one of these today and completely blurred out my name and sent it back. Just send it back to them, and they have to pay double. BE sure to completely obliterate your name or they will just re-deliver it.

SEND THEM BACK and show the RNC that we do not approve of their sickening tactics. This has opened my eyes to exactly how much honor McCain has....NONE. He is a skunk. He has lied repeatedly, saying he'd never do this, and this is the worst stuff I've ever seen.

"Did you notice they darkened his skin?"

Of course they did. And this "not you who think he is" is a dog-whistle to the Left Behind crowd who believes this Anti-Christ crap.

At least the photo has Senator Obama wearing a flag pin. I guess they missed that while trying to make him a monster, huh?

They must be sending these out to people who didn't watch the debate. There was a rider on that bill that's why Obama voted the way he did. Asinine nonsense.

wow, I'm old enough to remember a similar mailer that VERY graphically showed our soldiers who were horrifically injured in Vietnam.
I didn't need to see that mailer because my friends were the ones who came back home with those injuries, as did my WWII & Korea friends.
I also remember mailers and even billboards depicting alleged aborted fetuses (and very graphically) around the same time.
This is just blatant visual scare-mongering that doesn't address the issues, lies about the issues, and just wants to shock people.
Of course it's shocking! That's the point for people who don't want to be bothered with the facts and the truth.

If they send me this crap, I would return it with a few choice words.

This is just vile... It's sad to watch a statesman sacrifice all his integrity the way McCain has.

Desperdo, why don't you come to your senses...

If this were football, McCain would be on his 83rd down. He just keeps throwing Hail Mary passes that don't connect, yet the media keep letting him have more. Someone needs to throw a flag and call him on this crap. But since Obama is ahead and the media wants a close race for ratings, they won't report the truth.

This is really despicable. That said, I really do not think it will sway anyone away from Obama, people who are already rabidly anti-choice were probably not voting for him anyway, and anyone else will see this attack as rediculous. It is the principle of the thing though, that is so terrible. It utterly misrepresents Barack Obama. This is a whole new low in attack ads.

This is just plain cruel, desperate and totally undercuts the fabric of America. Acts of Desperation doesn't serve the American People and insults our intelligence. This style of politics have no place in a democratic society. This is guerilla style politics where truth is nonexistent. Why not lock all Democrats up so we can't vote at all. HAIL MARY PASS number.....oh heck I lost count! ENOUGH!!

This is proof positive the Republicans will stop at nothing to win. What a vile bunch of nonsense?

I have never posted on this site before. However, I find this mailer to be so appalling that I feel compelled to express my outrage.

Even if I was undecided -- which I am not -- I would be repelled from McCain by this revolting campaign ad. Who is he trying to convince with this garbage? Answer -- the base. Well, the base is voting for him anyway, so why both!?! I believe that if -- or when -- McCain loses this election, he will look back on 2008 as the year when he lost his reputation as an honorable American. I suggest that McCain will regret his recent actions.
