Chevy Chase

Access Hollywood landed an interview with SNL alum Chevy Chase, who thinks Sarah Palin bombed on "Saturday Night Live".

"Quite frankly, it's a big mistake to let her go on," Chevy told Access Hollywood at the Give Food a Chance benefit in New York. "What was brilliant about ['SNL' chief] Lorne [Michaels] was that he had nothing written for Sarah and that apparently she cannot improvise herself out of a paper bag!...

"On 'Weekend Update,' that was her big chance," he said. "Nothing."

But Chevy was critical not only of Sarah's comedic chops, but of the political campaign of her running mate, Sen. John McCain.

"The management behind McCain's campaign has been dumb. This has only helped accentuate the problem of his judgment in choosing, in such a cynical way, a candidate like Sarah Palin for vice president. I think the last thing that they would want right about now is to have the rest of America knowing all that... to have her be seen on 'SNL,' certainly never there. If anything, you just want her to be seen just from a distance."

"I'm sure she's very bright," he added. "But so is the Butterworth woman."

But Chevy had kinder words for Tina Fey, the "30 Rock" star and "SNL" alum who has returned to the show several times this season to play Sarah, including Saturday's opening sketch.

"I think Tina Fey's in a lot of trouble," he laughed. "Because after Jerry Ford lost, I made about $80 million. Are you kidding? You're talking to the wrong guy here. Tina's great!"

You were funnier when you had a script to follow.....

What makes you think S. Palin should have given a comedy show on SNL.

Birds of a feather stick together so why wouldn't you side with T. Fey.
Maybe she will give you a spot on her TV show. She is getting a lot of attention at S. Palin's expense.
agend
Anyway, I's sure S. Palin could have improvised, but this would only have given you something else
to complain about. Maybe that is the problem. She left you with nothing to improvise about.

Don't become a used to be, C. Chase....you used to be funny.....so why spoil your reputation by letting
us know you are a left of the left liberal. So much for free speech that allows for unkind criticism.

Relaly positive that no one cares what Chevy Chase has to say about Sarah Palin. I understand letting some pop-culture celebs write on this site but c'mon. Chevy Chase?

Chevy, do yourself a favor and put a sock in it. Listening to you harang this woman and then bragging about your 80 million dollars earned by acting silly wears a little thin.

So you guys 'landed' an interview with this hack? How hard was that? Did you sneak up on him while he was stealing milk money from some 1st grader who happened to walk on his lawn? Talk about washed up has-beens... How much did he pay you for the interview? If there seems to be one opinion on which Hollywood has never been divided, it is that Chevy Chase is a whiny, old dirtbag who isn't funny and whose name has been deleted from everyones Rolodex.

He's Chevy Chase and we aren't, which in retrospect is a blessing.

What a clown.

Looking forward to Fletch 7.

Chevy Chase is a wash up. Who cares what he thinks. No one goes on SNL as a guest and ad libs.
Once again, different expectations for Palin. The reason it was not so funny was that Michaels chickened out and didn't give her the biting lines he gave to democratic candidates. It could have been much funnier if he wanted it to be.

But the fact is that there is something about Palin that draws people. SNL had the highest ratings in 14 years.....that says something about Palin's draw.

agreed, who cares what Chevy Chase thinks? To be honest,he was the least talented of the original cast of SNL,his movies were really bad,and he has a reputation of having no sense of humour, which comes from him being pranked a few times, and responding like a "get off my lawn" kind of guy. So,happy that you got your name in the news for the first time in 10 years, but now its time to go away again.By the way,I thought Palin was pretty funny.

Yeah, those tired old "get off my lawn" guys-- you know who should be put out to pasture.?.....the "get off my seven lawns" guy.

Wow, I am so happy to see Chevy is still alive. It would be nice if SNL would invite him back for a cameo. Last time I saw him was on Law & Order playing a jew hating bigot. Wow, he was great in that role. He really knows how to hate.

On what basis do you assert that she is not very bright? Replies to unexpected questions while being watched by hundreds of millions of people is in no way a valid intelligence test. Be reasonable. Although I voted early for Obama, I would dearly love to have Sarah as his running mate as opposed to "three letter word J-O-B-S" Biden.

"Replies to unexpected questions" certainly are ways to determine intelligence. So funny...do you think in real life questions get submitted ahead of time? Your support of Palin needs no explanation.
