Chevy Chase

Access Hollywood landed an interview with SNL alum Chevy Chase, who thinks Sarah Palin bombed on "Saturday Night Live".

"Quite frankly, it's a big mistake to let her go on," Chevy told Access Hollywood at the Give Food a Chance benefit in New York. "What was brilliant about ['SNL' chief] Lorne [Michaels] was that he had nothing written for Sarah and that apparently she cannot improvise herself out of a paper bag!...

"On 'Weekend Update,' that was her big chance," he said. "Nothing."

But Chevy was critical not only of Sarah's comedic chops, but of the political campaign of her running mate, Sen. John McCain.

"The management behind McCain's campaign has been dumb. This has only helped accentuate the problem of his judgment in choosing, in such a cynical way, a candidate like Sarah Palin for vice president. I think the last thing that they would want right about now is to have the rest of America knowing all that... to have her be seen on 'SNL,' certainly never there. If anything, you just want her to be seen just from a distance."

"I'm sure she's very bright," he added. "But so is the Butterworth woman."

But Chevy had kinder words for Tina Fey, the "30 Rock" star and "SNL" alum who has returned to the show several times this season to play Sarah, including Saturday's opening sketch.

"I think Tina Fey's in a lot of trouble," he laughed. "Because after Jerry Ford lost, I made about $80 million. Are you kidding? You're talking to the wrong guy here. Tina's great!"

Well He's Chevy Chase and you're not! Let the man say whatever he wants. He's earned it!

Chevy Chase hasn't been relevant on over 20 years. It's about time to slip into oblivion don't ya think?

p.s. - I loved you in "man of the house" haha

I wish Palin would just disappear.... She's a disgrace to all mankind.

Chevy Chase is a nice enough guy but he is still living off SNL and is really honestly no longer the face or whom people associate with making that show great.

Chevy Chase's analysis of Sarah Palin's "performance" is dead on. She sucked, was totally wooden and boring. It was weird to see her there like a deer (or a moose) in the headlights. I was happy that Amy P did the rap. It was hillarious! I do resent Palin getting the air time, but whatever. She's so mean and nasty and lies- not at all what I think of when I think of a good Christian.

A couple of ways to take this.

Yes Chevy Chase "knows" SNL because he was on the first year, kind of. But that's a bad argument because he left after one year.

Read the book Live from New York. Chevy Chase was a real a-hole to everyone around him, not only when he was on the show but as a guest. A real pompous arse.

As for Palin being on the show I think her real talents were showcased. She refused to answer "reporter" questions even in a fake scenario and just sat there and 'danced' during Amy Poehler's AWESOME AWESOME performance. So given her performance or woeful lack thereof I do agree woth him when he said this was her chance - nothing.

Regardless of rehearsal time.

Is Chevy Chase now the authority on what's funny? If so, break out your video cassettes of "European Vacation" cause it's going to be a long winter.

Chevy - What happened? You look older than dirt. I enjoyed Vacation and the ones that followed. But Chevy, shut up until you do anything that can make us laugh again. Unless this is it?

Why are there no recent articles on Huffington post about Joe Biden? What are they trying to hide?

Patriotvet: once again loading a thread with off topic tripe. I'd better not call him a t.ro.ll or my entry won't go up....

Why is it off topic? Because I am showing you what your V.P. pick is really like? Chevy Chase wants to criticize Palin because she is a woman, plain and simple. Why doesn't he ever say anything about Biden? Especially considering Biden's msot recent paranoid rant:
"Mark my words," the Democratic vice presidential nominee warned at the second of his two Seattle fundraisers Sunday. "It will not be six months before the world tests Barack Obama like they did John Kennedy. The world is looking. We're about to elect a brilliant 47-year-old senator president of the United States of America. Remember I said it standing here if you don't remember anything else I said. Watch, we're gonna have an international crisis, a generated crisis, to test the mettle of this guy."

"I can give you at least four or five scenarios from where it might originate," Biden said to Emerald City supporters, mentioning the Middle East and Russia as possibilities.

Two points here:

#1. FDR was not President when the stock market happened

#2. There was no TV when FDR was President nor when the stock market crashed.

Tell me again how "intelligent" this guy is?

At least he doesn't claim to see Russia from his house.

That's your defense? Another of these "at least" arguments from one of you liberal wanna-bes? That's like saying sure O.J. might have murdered his ex-wife, but at least he didn't rape her. It's really quite sad how you are so willing to put blinders on to your own party while you take such a fascist stand about the other party.
You truly make me ashamed to be a democrat.

You can see Russia from parts of Alaska. You can walk there over the ice during some winters. National Geographic had an article a few years ago about the Alaskan tribe that still have family clan links in Russian territory that is close enough to paddle to by kayak. Don't people ever look at a map?

You know why this story has no legs, because two points here:

#1 FDR was president throughout the depressionm serving from 1933 to 1945.

#2 FDR made weekly radio addresses to the nation in his "fireside chats" to explain directly to Americans how he planned to relieve and reform and rebuild following the crisis.

The crash of 1929 was a calamitous event that may have marked the beginning of the Great Depression, but it certainly wasn't the sole source of the ongoing, world-wide economic downturn that lasted another ten or fifiteen years, depending on where you lived. I dare you to debate Joe Biden on any subject in world history. He may get a detail like tv vs. radio incorrect, or refer a la shorthand to black tuesday rather than the decade or so starting in the early thirties when the depression's impact had spread across the country - but his reference to FDR - and FDR's direct appeals to the people was right on. I bet that without a talking point bulletin, Palin couldn't even tell you who FDR was. Take your talking points and shove them up your ignorant a$$

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:57 PM on 10/21/2008

Yes, we certainly want a vice president who doesn't care about "little details" like, say, the language of bills and proposals and such. And who cares if he makes a few little "gaffes" that just happen to insult a foreign power. I'm sure nothing bad could ever come of that.

Whatever! He was stellar in the National Lampoon's Vacation movies. I was just a child (so I didn't watch SNL), but boy did they have me rolling. It was all the PG/PG-13 material I had before America's funniest home videos and Home Alone.

I saw SNL that night and was not impressed with the show or Palin's performance. It seemed to me that Fey didn't want to be in the same frame with Palin and frankly, Palin really didn't put much into it; she seemed out of place and uncomfortable. I knew that she was the one to perform the rap song but refused and sat there, quite awkwardly, trying to dance. I didn't think the show was their best that night and perhaps it was because Gov. Palin was making the cast uncomfortable and vice-versa.

Don't you know they rehearsed on Friday? They don't ad lib on SNL. Furthermore, Palin wasn't dissed by Alec Baldwin, was she? :)
