Chevy Chase

Access Hollywood landed an interview with SNL alum Chevy Chase, who thinks Sarah Palin bombed on "Saturday Night Live".

"Quite frankly, it's a big mistake to let her go on," Chevy told Access Hollywood at the Give Food a Chance benefit in New York. "What was brilliant about ['SNL' chief] Lorne [Michaels] was that he had nothing written for Sarah and that apparently she cannot improvise herself out of a paper bag!...

"On 'Weekend Update,' that was her big chance," he said. "Nothing."

But Chevy was critical not only of Sarah's comedic chops, but of the political campaign of her running mate, Sen. John McCain.

"The management behind McCain's campaign has been dumb. This has only helped accentuate the problem of his judgment in choosing, in such a cynical way, a candidate like Sarah Palin for vice president. I think the last thing that they would want right about now is to have the rest of America knowing all that... to have her be seen on 'SNL,' certainly never there. If anything, you just want her to be seen just from a distance."

"I'm sure she's very bright," he added. "But so is the Butterworth woman."

But Chevy had kinder words for Tina Fey, the "30 Rock" star and "SNL" alum who has returned to the show several times this season to play Sarah, including Saturday's opening sketch.

"I think Tina Fey's in a lot of trouble," he laughed. "Because after Jerry Ford lost, I made about $80 million. Are you kidding? You're talking to the wrong guy here. Tina's great!"

The "MOOSE" gets my vote for funniest on SNL! Boy, you Repugnants have no sense of humor. You need to go see your local urologists and get those cobs taken out right now! They are stifling your sense of humor and other bodily functions.

Why hasn't Joe Biden been on SNL? Perhaps this is why:

I didn't know Chevy Chase was still alive. Caddyshack was a great movie. Fletch was ok. That pretty much sums up the last time Chevy was relevant.

I find this hard to believe. I thinik your missing the point McCain is the ONE that has been pallin' around with scessionist, unethical goveners, Keating and the likes for many years. He want to carry on the failed Reagan economic plan of trickle down. when are we as a country going to wake the F up and make a change to move on. The middle class has born the weight of these failed policies for too long its time the top 5 % pay there share.

How did the so-called Reaganomics fail? I seem to recall things going very well in the U.S. during Reagan's time in office.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 02:21 PM on 10/21/2008

Yeah, we don't need a president who pals around with "scessionist goveners and the likes"... assuming "the likes" are the spelling-impaired.

And just so you know, according to the IRS, the top five percent income earners pay 60 percent of the federal income taxes. I think that sounds like THEIR (not there) share, don't you?

Trickle down isn't a failed policy! Socialism is! Duhhh.
How many millionaires are there giving jobs to the rest of us? We aren't giving them one are we? If Obama is going to give their money away to us, they won't have money to hire us.

It really isn't that hard to understand for most people.

I am an undecided voter. I am floored with the hate and the amount of disgruntel Democrats.
Yes. This is politics... But how can any reasonable person attact Palin for appearing on SNL and make vicious and negitive comments. She was a good sport and made SNL's highest ratings in 14 years. It wasn't Obama, Biden, or even Joe. The bottom line is that when you hate like this you can not make an intelligent decision. People who have this in their hearts and souls should not have the right to vote.

Nor run for VPOTUS on the Repub ticket. Unfortunately Palin displayed flat affect. it was difficult watching her knowing what is in her heart.

Don't forget who started this negativity. There's a social law of physics here. McCain played the wrong card. What goes around.... and it will end with Obama as President of these United States.

She didn't go on SNL to be a "good sport". If she wanted to be a "good sport" she'd go on Meet the Press, answer some questions, etc. She went on SNL in an attempt to get some press and some votes for doing nothing.

Have you been listening to the hate and lies coming out of the Palin rally's - she essentially says that Obama is a terrorist because he served on an education board with other Republicans, in an organization founded by a Reagan Republican. So , it is a complete lie and distortion. It's not what we should be hearing from politicians.

It's damaging to the country and that's why people are upset about Palin.

Leave Sarah Palin alone. She is a distraction. We have all had too much fun with Palin. ENOUGH. We all have a job ahead of us. Get serious, Get the Republicans out of power. Focus on the election of Sen. Obama. ENOUGH FUN. Have you yet voted? Taken someone to the polls? Encouraged a doubter to go with Obama? Made some calls for the campaign?

Folks at SNL, please do not book her for any more shows. There are alot of people in this country who would like to see less of her. Let her go into oblivion to Alaska. Her state needs her more than the lower 48 states and Hawaii. Don't bring her back to the limelight for we can't stand her screecy and tangy voice.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 11:55 AM on 10/21/2008

Yes, just as there are a lot of people would like to see more of her and people like her and less of the likes of Nancy pelosi and Hasrry Reid and Barney Frank.

Oh yes wont it be roses if Sen Obama is elected and The 3 stooges( Pelosi, Reid & Frank) run the country with absoluly no balance. If you dont understand what balance means you probaly shouldn't vote.

Are you kidding? SNL has made a fortune by using Sarah Palin. They have a Thursday night gig now, and there audience was the larges in 14 years with 17 million viewers. The thing I was surprised about was the warm audience reception Sarah Paling got.........the SNL audience is usually very liberal, and I would assume pro-0bama.

...additionally it was amusing to see her just sit there while they all just ripped on her, it wasn't a good moment for her or her party...and regarding the debate about her looks, fer crissakes why is this even an issue?

Sarah Palin was supposed to be the one doing the Rapping but she refused.

I'm not just talking about the rap bit, even the Baldwin skit was embarrassing. If she knew she couldn't handle the rap bit why did she just sit there acting like a bobble-head doll? The whole SNL thing was pathetic.

As much as I want to stand up and cheer for anyone who publically dumps on Palin, I have to point out that Chevy Chase hasn't been funny, interesting or even pleasant in at least 20 years.

The Republicans can have him.

The difference between you and I in a nutshell . I believe everyone should vote but that they should make an educated vote note just an "oh hollywood loves him, I'll vote for him"
You know cause hollywood celebs are just like my next door neighbor , my mailman, grocer, childcare giver etc. Learn about issues and where the candidate stands on them and what direction it will take your country in.

Instead of "playing" on SNL, Sarah Palin should have been home studying important things like:
1. Foreign Policy
2. Economics
3. Healthcare Reform
4. Geography
5. Newsworthy Publications
6. Bush Doctrine
7. Definition of 'maverick'

Instead, she chose to allow herself to continue to be the main attraction at the circus.

I never thought Chase was funny. That being said, I think Palin's appearance was a cynical political ploy to try and 'humanize' and soften her increasingly nasty persona. The Republican's know that her popularity among non Republicans is waning and, since most people seem to enjoy looking at her anyway, why not give them more to look at. After all, what could be better than having a real 'hottie' in the White House?

It was quickly obvious that she had no business being there. As a matter of fact, I don't think anyone had any business being there since the entire show was lousy (except for the moose going down).

Chevy hasn't done anything funny since the Christmas Vacation movie. Guess he needs a few extra minutes of fame so he wants to enlighten us with his political views. I can do without his opinions and views though. Go back to Hollywood and hide Chevy.

SNL has better sketches in the works:

http://www.weeklyworldnews.com/mutants/tina-fey-shoots-a-bigfoot/

WASILLA, AK - Tina Fey, who has made headlines recently by impersonating Governor Sarah Palin, has gone so far as to lampoon her famous aerial shooting of a Bigfoot.

Cast and crew of the show Saturday Night Live flew out yesterday to Chugach National Park in Alaska to film a sketch for their special Thursday show.

While I agree that Palin's appearance was nothing to write home about and definitely not worthy of the amount of praise it got from the media, I also don't see what relevance Chevy Chase has to anything, including SNL.
He was on SNL a long time ago. He was funny a long time ago. Now he's just a sad shadow of his former self who is constantly griping about somebody or something. I don't think many people will care about his opinion in this election.
On a side note, I think the most pathetic thing I've seen in a while in comedy was the Chevy Chase Roast on Comedy Central. He couldn't get anyone he knew to show up except for other even more washed up ex-SNL members and former movie co-stars. The biggest part of the people there were comedians who didn't even know him that were using it to enhance their own careers. There's a reason for that. Most people who worked with him have said that he's a complete jerk.
