SPRINGFIELD, Ill. - Illinois Senate Republican Leader Frank Watson remains hospitalized, three days after suffering what's being termed "a very minor" stroke.
Watson spokeswoman Patty Schuh (SHOO) says the 63-year-old state senator is being assessed at St. Louis' Barnes-Jewish Hospital.
A hospital spokeswoman isn't releasing any information about Watson's condition at the family's request.
Schuh says Watson began experiencing noticeable discomfort Friday while campaigning for GOP Senate candidate Ken Burzynski (bur-ZIHN'-skee) of Benton. Schuh says he sought medical attention, and doctors detected a "very minor stroke."
Watson represents the state's 51st district from the southern Illinois city of Greenville. He's a pharmacist who's been a member of the Illinois Senate since 1982.
