In this morning's McCain conference call, campaign flack Rick Davis allowed what appeared to be a bit of resentment toward the press show through, at one point equating the gathered reporters with de facto agents of the Obama campaign:
"The polls are all over the map. Some of them have us [down] 4 or 5 points, some of them have you up double digits."
Perhaps a bit of a Freudian slip! At another point on the call, however, while explaining why the McCain campaign has chosen to remain active in Pennsylvania, Davis revised a little history to make it sound like the press had widely predicted an Obama win in the Pennsylvania primary. In point of fact, most media touts during the run up to the primary predicted a comfortable Clinton win, though there was a general suggestion that if Obama could keep it within single digits, it would be something of a Pyrrhic victory.
Davis signed off the call cattily, saying, "I hope there was enough of an entertainment level to make it worth your while today."
