I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The McCain campaign and the RNC are sending out a mailer that pushes Gov. Sarah Palin as both the figurehead of the GOP ticket and a centrist.

A reader in Pennsylvania sends over a four-page pamphlet titled "McCain-Palin Solutions for Our Family," which labels as priorities for the Republican team non-traditional conservative positions such as climate change and stem cell research. The inset includes a copy of a USA Today article with the headline: "In targeting big oil, Palin 'governed from the center': She didn't press conservative views on lawmakers."

The next page includes a campaign statement on how "John McCain and Sarah Palin will work with Democrats and Republicans for sensible solutions." And underneath is a graph about how Palin "as the mother of a special needs child... knows first hand the value of advanced medical treatments research."

The final page is a photo of McCain and Palin which noticeably features the vice presidential candidate in a more prominent placement than the presidential candidate himself.

What's noteworthy here is not just the push to feature Palin -- whose popularity and favorability ratings have fallen drastically over the past few weeks -- in a leading role. It's also how consciously the campaign is trying to track away from conservative orthodoxy. The pamphlet was sent from a reader in Philadelphia -- obviously not the state's Republican stronghold. And it is tradition for presidential tickets to move towards the center as the election approaches.

But the desire to break from the party has really become a defining feature for McCain-Palin. Over the last few days, some of the loudest applause lines at their rallies have come when McCain declares that he is not George W. Bush.

Sarah Palin is the quintessential Republican.

When Palin made the comment, "I have nothing to lose." I told my daughter that the GOP hierarchy had to have promised her something should Senator McCain fail to win the white house. Now I am positive that the scenario is Palin 2012. OMG!

Mccain is just a figurehead for now. They want Palin(an easy Rovian puppet) in the White House. Take a good look at Mccain.

That last photo is profound:

1) How are McCain and Palin reaching across party lines to each other? Which two parties are they in?

2) The phrase "Change is coming" carries your eye to Palin. Is there something about McCain's potential tenure we should know about?

After I read your comment I looked at the last photo once again and it made me feel like McCain's part looks like those portraits of the dearly departed. I do not wish him ill, but the photo is kind of weird.

Good catch. The ghosting out of his pic (edges of suit), and the soft "portrait" blur on him -- vs. sharp on her -- is not accidental.

I am thrilled to see Sar.ah begin to overtake J.ohn in the Repub Party.

With any luck at all she will take that crowd careening down the Marginalized Freeway to permanent retirement in Historic Insignificance.

I saw the bus pass by here earlier this evening on the way down the mountain.... Blown tires throwing sparks from the front axles, the rear axle appeared to be broken in two and the rims were already ground off.... Fire leaping from the rear windows, Sarah screaming from the driver's seat - "I'll be back"

There is a very sharp turn about 1/2 way down to the valley.... You have to oversteer that turn because if you hit the gravel on the left shoulder going too fast.....

Somehow the last picture's colors and composition (including Palin's dress and hair style) remind of the first color ads of the 1950s. I nearly expect her to sell some home appliance and suggest that thanks to that appliance she can think and take care of grandpa.

She reminds me of the worst parts of each of the Desperate Housewives all rolled into one, frosted with Phylis Schaffly, with an Anita Bryant coating.

Sarah Palin is still the most frightening candidate I have ever seen in American politics. She preaches divisiveness and intolerance. She has associations with & is supported by the Alaskan Independance Party and actually tried to appoint a member of the Birch Society to a city council position when she was mayor. Originally I didn't mind
Mc Cain as a presidential choice but now I fear his brain has been taken over by the trolls!

Both McCain and Palin will still have plenty of opportunities to reach across Party Lines after January 20th...

If putting her on the ticket showed poor judgement, as Powell suggests, then what does suggesting she belongs at the Top of the ticket show?

Lies, lies, lies are the only thing that come out of the McCain Propaganda Ministry.

Goebbels would be very proud of McCain and Palin.

The whole McCain campaign has been based on repetitions of various "Big Lies." I can't believe this is the same man I admired in 2000. He acts like he let Karl Rove do a brain transplant on him.
