I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The McCain campaign and the RNC are sending out a mailer that pushes Gov. Sarah Palin as both the figurehead of the GOP ticket and a centrist.

A reader in Pennsylvania sends over a four-page pamphlet titled "McCain-Palin Solutions for Our Family," which labels as priorities for the Republican team non-traditional conservative positions such as climate change and stem cell research. The inset includes a copy of a USA Today article with the headline: "In targeting big oil, Palin 'governed from the center': She didn't press conservative views on lawmakers."

The next page includes a campaign statement on how "John McCain and Sarah Palin will work with Democrats and Republicans for sensible solutions." And underneath is a graph about how Palin "as the mother of a special needs child... knows first hand the value of advanced medical treatments research."

The final page is a photo of McCain and Palin which noticeably features the vice presidential candidate in a more prominent placement than the presidential candidate himself.

What's noteworthy here is not just the push to feature Palin -- whose popularity and favorability ratings have fallen drastically over the past few weeks -- in a leading role. It's also how consciously the campaign is trying to track away from conservative orthodoxy. The pamphlet was sent from a reader in Philadelphia -- obviously not the state's Republican stronghold. And it is tradition for presidential tickets to move towards the center as the election approaches.

But the desire to break from the party has really become a defining feature for McCain-Palin. Over the last few days, some of the loudest applause lines at their rallies have come when McCain declares that he is not George W. Bush.

Excuse me? Evita was beloved of/by her country. America weeps BECAUSE OF Sarah, not FOR Sarah.

when I need a laugh, I head over to Freeper or RedState to read the comment threads.
They LOVE Sarah and Todd. And many of them hate McCain.

on RS they literally spent an entire evening discussing what the best Administration position for Todd would be

I can't see where pushing Palin will get McCain. I just listened to several gops on Talk of the Nation speaking about how they are voting for Obama because of McCain's choice of Palin as veep and his negative campaign. Note the prominent gops bailing on McCain partially because of Palin. Interesting to note that Davis said they might be forced to use Wright. Because their use of Ayers has gotten them so many votes? Are these people loony or suicidal? Incapable of learning? Incapable of having more than one or two ideas?

This flyer is so orwellian. There she is large and colorful with that scary, snarky smile. brrr. And he is smaller, muted, looking at her wistfully. Without the suit and tie it looks like he could be in nursing home.

This cannot be real. I can't believe that the media gives them any credence at all. They have both made a joke of leadership for our country. And the group of lobbyists (for actual terrorists) they 'pal' with is frightening.

Obama will reach out in kindness to all those that have gotten all riled up with the hate being trumpeted by Palin/McBush.

While Palin/McBush act like they are setting up a separate country for the "good americans". Palin recently baited at a rally, "If you believe in---what we believe in....."
This cannot be happening!

VOTE VOTE VOTE Obama/Biden 08 SAVE OUR FUTURE!

I have written about this before, but for those of you who haven't seen it, this situation reminds me of a book called "Paperback Writer" by a rock scribe named Mark Shipper.

In it, the Beatles reunite (this was before Lennon died) and they schedule a stadium tour and then go into the studio to do a new record. But the record is so awful that ticket sales for the tour completely tank. So the promoter, in order to save his financial hide, brings in Peter Frampton to headline over the Beatles.

This is what is happening with McCain. Palin is his Peter Frampton while he is a completely bereft of good ideas that would appeal to the public version of Shipper's Beatles.

He is truly a pathetic man.

Who designed that mailer? Piper Palin?

The flier says "John McCain and Sarah Palin will work with Democrats."

LOL! We have heard THAT tripe before: "I'm a uniter." - George W. (Don't get fooled again) Bush.

LOL, yeah. Which Democrats? The un-patriotic socialists, who you accuse of having caused everything under the sun since the big bang? Those same Democrats you're trying to have everybody hate? Are those the ones McPalin is gonna "work with"?? WTF?
Either they really think their supporters are ignorant, or they actually are. Sigh.

Technically, that should read "John McCain and Sarah Palin will work with Connecticut for Liebermans".

My sister just recently registered to vote as a Democrat and received this exact postcard in the mail in MN. My first reaction too was that it showed Palin in the forefront. And I'm shocked that she would be for stem cell research if she is so stanchly pro-life. Is that really their position??

He's against it in using cloned embryos, but for it using leftover embryos from fertility treatments.
Odd that Palin woul dbe for it, or even for fetrility treatments, because if she is so religious, then she should think only god creates babies, not sex or science.

Many religious nuts are against stem cell research, but once it can cure them, guess who's going to be first in line for the treatments?

Palin's real views are completely immaterial to what they will use in their ads, their flyers, their robocalls, her speeches. The great thing about Palin is that she will say whatever they tell her to say, even if it is the opposite of what she has previously said she thinks.

Palin was not nominated, she was selected. Ergo any GOPer who thinks of her as the top of the ticket completely disrespects the primary season process about earning your place in the eyes of the nation, not just some small group of it. Those same supporters will shout until they're blue in the face with respect to the undemocratic nature of such awful things as early voting or that Obama might have socialist tendencies, but they'll totally excuse the anti-democratic nature of effectively having the party select the more important person (if not the top slot) on the ticket.

What kind of misguided logic are they using; and can it be applied to more than just politics?

Oh, you have to give it to Karl Rove. Can there be any doubt he is running things? Palin is his perfect puppet. Perfect.

I think McCain has just figured out that it was Palin's campaign as soon as he selected her. The powers that be love Palin because like Bush, she's a can become their meat-puppet after McCain's stage 3b melanoma (stage 2 prognosis is considered poor) comes back.
