I Like ItI Don’t Like It

The McCain campaign and the RNC are sending out a mailer that pushes Gov. Sarah Palin as both the figurehead of the GOP ticket and a centrist.

A reader in Pennsylvania sends over a four-page pamphlet titled "McCain-Palin Solutions for Our Family," which labels as priorities for the Republican team non-traditional conservative positions such as climate change and stem cell research. The inset includes a copy of a USA Today article with the headline: "In targeting big oil, Palin 'governed from the center': She didn't press conservative views on lawmakers."

The next page includes a campaign statement on how "John McCain and Sarah Palin will work with Democrats and Republicans for sensible solutions." And underneath is a graph about how Palin "as the mother of a special needs child... knows first hand the value of advanced medical treatments research."

The final page is a photo of McCain and Palin which noticeably features the vice presidential candidate in a more prominent placement than the presidential candidate himself.

What's noteworthy here is not just the push to feature Palin -- whose popularity and favorability ratings have fallen drastically over the past few weeks -- in a leading role. It's also how consciously the campaign is trying to track away from conservative orthodoxy. The pamphlet was sent from a reader in Philadelphia -- obviously not the state's Republican stronghold. And it is tradition for presidential tickets to move towards the center as the election approaches.

But the desire to break from the party has really become a defining feature for McCain-Palin. Over the last few days, some of the loudest applause lines at their rallies have come when McCain declares that he is not George W. Bush.

I have been wanting to comment on this for about 2 months now .. my husband and I are near retirememt age. We are from PA....Our life time goal was to tour Alaska ... My husband is an avid hunter and fisher.. and I am a naturalist...Alaska seemed to be a wonderfull compromise to both of our interests..but (I certainly hope not all Alaskians are not like Palin) I and my husband , who happen to be compassionate democrats, do not have any desire to go to Alaska after getting to know this woman who you , Alaskians, have elected, by a majority , too represent your state... I am so sorry ,but you have lost our tourism.

well duh! this has been the plan all along; either before inauguration or shortly thereafter, should sen. mccain have won, he would have to step down. and puffhedragon, i couldn't agree more; living in the pacific northwest, we had hoped to be able to save enough to take our rv up the al-can highway to see the beauty first hand we have only seen pictures of but now, after having gov. palin on the scene for eight weeks, we certainly are looking at alaska differently.

The 2012 Republican race will be very entertaining to watch. All these Palin supporting politicians will bring up the stuff that the Dem's didn't want to in the worst way!

The Democrats need to make a major issue out of Palin's association with the America hating, flag hating, secessionist Alaska Independence Party. This woman is a friend and associate of traitors.

Absolutely. We should all push the MSM to do this -- letters to editor of local papers, calls to them, prod national media.

WHY does T.Odd get a break when Obama gets clobbered over Ayers?

I agree. Here's a letter I wrote that was published in the Cincinnati Enquirer last week. It might not change any minds, but I felt better writing it:

Given the right-wing outrage over Sen. Barack Obama's association with former domestic terrorist William Ayers, it's relevant to point out that Obama and Ayers served on a charitable board founded by Walter Annenberg and his widow, Leonore, who is a staunch supporter of Sen. John McCain. As far as I know, Mrs. Annenberg has not been accused of "palling around with terrorists." It's also interesting to note that Todd Palin was a member for seven years of the Alaska Independence Party, which was founded to push for a statewide vote on secession from the United States. The party's founder, Joe Vogler, stated: "I'm an Alaskan, not an American. I've got no use for America, or her damned institutions. The fires of hell are glaciers compared to my hate for the American government." Gov. Sarah Palin spoke to the group in March this year, stating, "Keep up the good work."

Might as well just change all the campaign signs to read Palin-McCain.

She's a one trick pony in the GOP circus.
Just look at the smug look on her face.

I think it very appropriate that Palin be put frirst in the political ads. After all, when we consider McCain's age, his health, and the stress of the office, it is quite likely that she will be president for a lonnger time than he. And, MY FRIENDS, that is something we must consider very carefully.

I s'pose they thought the photo made her look "presidential" -- like she knows what she's doing. By god, she'll stand up to the terrorists!

Another miss.

It's fourth down and the McC camp is punting.

Not a very attractive photo of Gov. Palin in the last postcard (wearing gold outfit). Smug, tight-lipped, ticked-off...hmm, was the graphic designer a closet Democrat?

Looks like she's enjoying the benefit of Cindy McCain's hand-me-downs. Good for her - at least she'll get one thing out of this doomed adventure she unwittingly undertook.

A "centrist?" Are you KIDDING me??? What universe do these people inhabit? And who on earth will this convince? Not independents. Not after what she has said and done.

Give me a break.

No matter how they spin it, the Mc Bush/Mc Failen ticket is tanking. Two weeks to go and the their campaign is in total turmoil. Now they are denouncing Colin Powell, you know the one that WAS a friend of Mc Bush, that is until he endorsed Obama.

Great going (*-*) PLEASE keep up the ah, good work......................................
