Rosario Dawson and Wilmer Valderrama have filmed another PSA meant to inspire young Latinos to vote — this time with help from Jane Fonda and celebrity blogger Perez Hilton.
The video is the latest in a series of telenovela-inspired public service announcements filmed for Voto Latino, a non-partisan, non-profit group committed to increasing political engagement among young Latino youth. In this short film, Dawson's character Carmen is about to marry Valderrama's character Rodrigo, until she learns that he did not vote. Perez Hilton plays the priest officiating their interrupted marriage.
The PSA includes information on early voting and encourages young people in states that offer early voting to take advantage of the practice rather than wait on long voting lines. It ends with a remake of "I Want To Be in America" from "West Side Story," titled, "I Want To Vote in America" (lyrics below).
"It's the Latino community's answer to 'The Great Schlep'," said Rosario Dawson, co-founder of the organization. "We have taken your grandmother's telenovéla, put it online, and made it relevant across cultures and across generations to help encourage conversations among Latino families."
