Silverman

US comedian Sarah Silverman was heckled on stage during her UK stand-up debut in London.

Fans, who had paid about £50 a ticket, slow hand clapped and shouted they wanted their money back after the star's short 40-minute set.

After the audience refused to leave, Silverman was forced to give a Q&A session as an encore after admitting she had no other material prepared.

The comedian has her own show on US cable TV network Comedy Central.

Unimpressed fans shouted "you're over-hyped Sarah" and "I've seen longer clips on YouTube", before the star told the audience to "go home" and the left the stage.

Reviewers from comedy websites and national newspapers were also left underwhelmed by Silverman's set at the Hammersmith Apollo, which "fizzled out" by the end.

Read Daily Mail report:

Hailed as the 'world's hottest, most controversial comedian', Silverman made her full-length UK debut at London's Hammersmith Apollo last night in front of an audience that included Hollywood star Keanu Reeves.

The 37-year-old comedian charged £35 for a performance of less than an hour, where she appeared anxious and uncomfortable.

Read The Times review of 2 stars:

She knows the limitations of her arrogant-ignorant persona. But she's not used to having to explain herself. As she stalked the stage, appearing to resent her crowd for wanting more, it was the eggiest end to a comedy show I've ever seen. Edging back to the wings with a mock-grandiose bow, it was the usual petulance but without the usual inverted commas. She blew it.

She can't make someone laugh even if her life depends on it. I hate her comedy central show. Jimmy Gimmel is a brave man to put up with this dumb broad.

How about a little comedy history, and some perspective (too much f***ing perspective).

Lenny Bruce's perhaps most famous 1960 routine, "Comic at the Palladium,'" tells the tale of a rising, irreverent American comic who begs his agent to get booked at a London Vaudeville venue. All goes wrong, the comedy doesn't travel well, the audience is like "2000 people, an oil painting!" Frustrated, he inadvertently starts a riot by trying to get a laugh out of yelling,"Screw Ireland!" Brilliant, and sad, since it seems autobiographical. Check it out, comedy fans.
Sarah is often brilliant, and certainly defines the cutting edge, but a bad gig is a bad gig. Like Colbert at the Correspondent's Dinner, bombing doesn't always mean that the comic is bad.

sarah silverman is neither funny nor brilliant. She is in no way similar to Lenny Bruce.
If she's compared to anyone it should be Sarah Palin. Cute but not so cute that she threatens men, and certainly spunky enough to get work that she's in no way qualified for.

She's not even fit to carry scripts for Colbert!

With respect to comedy, as well as being on the leading edge of confronting the abuses of the Bush Administration, Colbert killed at the Correspondent's Dinner. That his audience felt uncomfortable being present when the emperor is first told about his clothes is no surprise.

I am sooooooooo loving it that she got booed. What she is offering is not comedy, it's garbage humor.

She's simply not funny. As hard as the media pushes her, they can't change that.

Why would you go to her show if you weren't a fan of hers? And a fan would generally know her body of work and appreciate it. A standup show is usually about an hour, so I'm not sure why they complained it was a short show. Some of the funniest bits I've ever seen involved her TV show or movies she's been featured in. We don't always get British humor on this side of the pond, but at least we politely clap and go on with our lives. http://glammit.wordpress.com/

It's great to see people calling her out. We really don't understand all the attention she gets. My husband's family is successful in comedy writing, stand-up and acting, so it's not like we don't know it when we see it.

Anyone ever see this comic Matt Fulchiron. Very funny. He opened at a show for Daniel Tosh. I think he is going to be bigger than Tosh.

Sarah Silverman is a product of today's garbage. She is built on something but nobody seems to know what. You speak with folks at Comedy Central and they smile and say isn't she great but we both know that isn't true. Chris Rock, Dane Cook, Daniel Tosh, Theo Von...these are all very different comics at different stages but they have something to say. Sarah has nothing to say. She is in a tight click and has the balls to have balls. If watching a train wreck on stage is entertaining, which I must admit it is, well, she's terrific!

Thank you.

When a woman is pushing 40...and she continues to come off as the ironic 22 year old...the "shtick" doesn't fly anymore.

Top end comedy...Writers for The Daily Show and Colbert Report...Carlin, Dangerfield, Tosh, Gaffigan etc.

Sorry Sarah...your skills are very limited and your writing is worth a chuckel at best.

I've seen her movie, Jesus something or other, which is a stand-up act of hers. It's absolutely hilarious. Wonder what happened to her.

Sarah needs to find a pot dealer in the UK pronto! She's incapable of performing without that sticky-icky-icky ...

Have you seen the sequel to "THE GREAT SCHLEP"??

Here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WN_UsOHpKjM

I watched her hawking her "Schlep" to Florida video on Countdown with Keith Olbermann--a worthy cause. But she took a great opportunity and made it stink by sniffing at her fingers after shaking Keith's hand and talking about the pot cookie she ate before meet Al Gore at the Democratic National Convention. She's an embarrassment. Timing is everything.Place counts as well. Low class relentlessly playing low class is just boring and boorish.

As a fellow comedian, I feel for Sarah tanking so bad...I mean, she really stunk up the place -- and Brits are usually extremely forgiving. With that said, I have never understood Sarah's appeal nor do I like her comedy. I don't think it's original at all -- and I'm happy others see what my friends and I see -- she's an over-hyped comic who's show should really be on the Disney channel instead of Comedy Central. I do believe Sarah has gotten farther by dating Jimmy Kimmel (who is a true talent) -- those are some big coattails to hang onto.

Sarah S. hits some nerves. I agree she can be very unfunny but she can also be very funny & edgy. I see her more as a performance artist than a true comedian, like Andy Kaufman was. His stuff could also be difficult to view as humor, more as a spectacle. You have to give her credit for her uniqueness.
