Yeti

The Daily Mail reports that a team of Japanese explorers in the Himalayas claims to have found footprints of the abominable snowman. Photos of the footprints below, courtesy of AFP/Getty.

The large hairy creature resembling a human or bear is said to live in the regions of Nepal and Tibet. While the scientific community largely regards the creature as folklore, given the lack of evidence, reports of the yeti go back hundreds of years.

Yoshiteru Takahashi, the leader of the Yeti Project Nepal, made the discovery leading his Japanese team's third attempt at tracking down the half-man-half-ape.

But the *gait* doesn't! You have one tiny iota of the total picture so don't just assume that no one else has a clue!

Perhaps the Yeti is in the Serengetti, reciting poems with Lawrence Ferlenghetti, eating a deep dish of thin spagetti, and not coming out till he is good and ready.

Nah, doesn't look like the print of a mountain goat dragging its feet at all. Not one little bit. No siree.

About as probable as unearthing the living quarters of Fred Flintstone.
But for a country where the overwhelming number of people don't believe in evolution, the story should have considerable interest.
Vampires and werewolves are next to be tracked down in the snow.

The side-by-side photos of human prints with the "yeti" print give the illusion that they are comparable in size, but the measuring tape next to the "yeti" print shows the print to be about 6" long (it's marked in centimeters). So if it is a yeti - and I don't doubt that there could be rare species in the Himalayas that haven't been documented - it wasn't exactly the towering "abominable snowman" of legend. If it were human, it would have been about 4 1/2 feet tall.

Did this eat my previous comment???

Looking at the scale of other things in the picture, the tape appears to be about 3/4 inch wide, which would make the markings something over an inch. This is probably a 1/10 foot scale with each mark being 1.2 inches long. This would have the two pictures at about the same scale (as expected) and the foot would indeed be big. This is confirmed by other pictures I've seen showing the whole scene.

A tape with this scale is not uncommon, but Nepal investigators having one in Japan is unexpected.

Hey all you sceptics. Keep one thing in mind. There is about as much evidence of the existence of Yeti as there is for the existence of Jesus. At least in this case, we have a footprint.

Jesus answers prayers, does Yeti?

I prayed for footprints in the snow. Obviously worshipping the Yeti has paid off in droves.

you do realize that the word mamadeus means 'suck God', as opposed to amadeus which means 'love God'. the verb mammare is to suck (as in nursing from a teat or mammary) hence, mama. Or could be the other way around.

It could be argued that the "footprint" as evidence for the existence of Jesus is supplied by the prevalence of Christianity. By that same measure, one might argue that the existence of Yeti is supplied by the evidence of footprints.

In either cases, it's the prevalent belief in the validity of supplied "evidence" that confirms the existence of the "mind".

Even though I have never seen a Yeti or Bigfoot I am not ready to deny that they exist. You can not discount the experience of mankind through history that claims these magnificent creatures exist. I will admit I have definitely seen UFO's on 2 separate occasions. Anything is possible except McCain / Palin winning the general election for POTUS.

Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. Until I get the evidence, I cannot accept that these creatures exist. Do you realize how many there would have to be alive to sustain a viable population over the centuries? I will be very happy to accept their existence with sufficent evidence such as a dead one or hopefully, a live one.
