Maher Palin

Bill Maher joined Chris Matthews on Hardball Tuesday. After showing and discussing Congresswoman Michele's claim of an anti-American Obama, Matthews played Maher a clip of Sarah Palin Monday saying that as VP, her job would mean she would be in charge of Congress.

Maher was not amused at either woman's intelligence.

Everybody needs to take a step back.

Is it easy to mock Sarah Palin and her concept of what a VP does? Sure.

But it is just as easy to mock the progenitor of this thought: Dick Cheney. It has been our sitting VP who says - on camera - that his office is neither fish nor fowl, neither a part of the Executive branch nor a part of the Legislative branch, but something that is simultaneously a part of both and yet not wholly one or the other.

He has had legal briefs written up defending this view in court cases and says it every time he has been interviewed - should he deign to sit for an interview.

Now Palin is easy to mock because she says it in such an unserious manner and lets face it: reporters are not as afraid of her as they are of Dick Cheney. But until they mock Dick just as hard and as long as they are mocking Sarah, I will accuse them of nothing more than picking on a girl.

In all fairness to Palin, she didn’t get the VP job description from HR, she borrowed Cheney’s copy.

Who can apply for any job and not realize and comprehend the requirements of the position we are applying for let alone the Vice President of the United States. This woman is very dangerous and lacking in any knowledge. Hell Obama and Michelle are attorney's and have basic knowledge of the Constitution!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 10:21 AM on 10/24/2008

Just because they are attorney's they are qualified to know the Constitution? What closet do you live in? How about this one! Obama's top female aids/adviser's are paid $.83 on the dollar that their male counterparts are that are doing the same work. All of you free thinking women should love that. Why is nothing being said about that? Does that tell you what he thinks of women? That they are 83% equal to men. Check it out and then supply an intelligent answer instead of the same old lines, that he supports change. He has and you Obama supporters have no answer for that. Just one of his many conflicting views.

More than basic knowledge. Didn't Obama teach constitutional law?

In charge of Congress, indeed. General Powell was right when he said she was not ready to be VP. But , she probably thinks its her God given right to save the real americans from the socialist, liberal, sodomites and so forth. The GOP's contempt for the american people is sickening, every other four years, they parade a bunch incompetent buffoons that only appeal to the truly ignorant or rather people that happen to live under rocks since the day they were born.
Palin in a time of crisis, will probably say a Hail Mary and hope for Divine Intervention.

Well, I am an Originalist and if you ever want to know what the Founders believed, just read the Federalist and Anti-Federalist papers. That being said, Palin and McCain haven't a clue. Although Obama gets an edge in that he taught Constitutional Law but we have to hold his feet to the fire if he gets in. It's not Right vs Left. It's Right vs Wrong. Yes, the Framers put the Legislative Branch first to make law and the Executive effectuates it and when both disagree it goes into controversy in which the Judiciary settles the matter.Checks and Balances. But the highest power is with the People at the local and state level as the 9th and 10th Amendments attest to. One word we all need to understand; jurisdiction. The federales don't have it at the local level without Our consent. Nite, nite kids.

Fellow libs and progressives here at Huffpo, by my watch I believe we have but 11 days left of hearing the fake war hero and the fake reformer/pit bull in lipstick, incite more hatred by ignorant, uneducated fake Christians. I can hardly wait till their agony becomes America's salvation.

Bill, you're funny and bright--and, yes, principled. Sarah Palin's intelligence or inexperience aren't what bother me, though.

Here are things to watch for in Sarah Palin:
She uses people (McCain is the latest) in cruel ways.

She is talented at riling up a crowd, and some of the things she says are scary. (Her reply will be that she would never say things like she says on the stump if McCain's campaign hadn't made her do it.)

Palin's core values and ethics scare me more than anything else.

Bill Maher, rocket scientist. NOT!

US Constitution Article 1, Section 3, ” The Vice President of the United States shall be President of the Senate, but shall have no vote” That “BUT” leaves a lot of questions for an educated reader; perhaps not so many for the professional comedian.

If you think “the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed” (Amendment II) doesn’t apply to “the people” and privacy is protected by the Constitution (I’d reference here, but there is none) you certainty can’t argue with Gov Palin’s assertion that there may be more here than we have explored thus far.

Great insight, HueyD! Exactly what would be the clout of a President with no vote in the Senate?

What great insight does that give you regarding the Governor of Alaska's decsion to invade Russia at this time, or invade and destory any country she dislikes when she becomes the President of the former United States of America when Dubya McCain dies in office of melanoma?

What would a third-grader think?

A ridiculous inference you have there Mr

And you are probably a fan of how Cheney has insisted that he is neither a part of the Executive or Legislative Branches of government and therefore not to be held accountable or be held to the rules and standards of either. Whew! You and Palin have no real clue and playing semantics with the constitution does not change the fact that the V.P. has no authority over the Senate other than to be involved in case there is a tie on a vote in the senate. Get a clue and stop wishing for something that really does not exist.

I’m just referencing the source documents and legal precedent, trying to keep my personal bias out of it. She (they) have a valid Constitutional argument. Add to that Supreme Court decisions that find rights in the Constitution that are clearly not in the verbiage of the document and it gets real difficult to dispute the opinion.

Check my posts, of course I’m voting for McCain, but that didn’t keep me from checking my facts first.

The scary thing about Palin...and McCain also..is not only do they show stupidity...they insist that they are correct. I guess the theory being ....act like you know.
hey..it's worked for them...look at McCain....He knows...he knows....that's all he keeps telling us..without telling us what and how ...he knows..no debate, no argument, no question ..because He knows.

Not fair. I've already blogged and reserved the Butthead position for McCain because of that snorty snide laugh he has when he's being sarcastic. He gets a real charge out of himself.

I about fell off my chair when another blogger said much the same about Giuliani: "Who told Giuliani laughing like a hyena on crack every time he thinks he's funny is a becoming look?" Have you seen that face?
