NY Times:

A Sunday night episode of the Fox animated series "Family Guy" stirred up trouble by suggesting rather directly that Nazi officers would have supported the McCain-Palin ticket. And it was another arm of the News Corp. conglomerate, Fox News Channel, that first reported on the episode.

Fox (the broadcast network) aired the episode in which Stewie, the obnoxious baby character at the center of the series, and Brian, a talking dog, traveled back in time to Poland during the 1939 German invasion. The characters ambush Nazi soldiers in an alley and steal their uniforms so they can travel without drawing attention. Putting on an overcoat, Stewie notices a McCain-Palin campaign button affixed to the lapel. "Huh, that's weird," Stewie remarks.

"Family Guy" has never been known for its taste level. One recent episode depicted Jesus binge drinking, and the hit show once got in trouble with the Federal Communications Commission for showing a partially nude cartoon character. The series' creator, Seth MacFarlane, is a prominent supporter of Barack Obama's presidential bid. So fans of the program seemed to take the scene in stride: by mid-day Monday, the vast majority of blog mentions of the episode were favorable.

Fascists torture. Fascists wage wars of aggression. Fascists radically shift the wealth distribution curve to favor a tiny few. Fascists operate a protections racket using the military, your fear, and your money. Fascists want to "privatize" everything. Fascists use religion to legitimize and promote the acceptance of totalitarianism. Fascists don't like change once in office. I could go on and name the complete list of Fascism's characteristics that Bush, Cheney, and their neo con machine possess, but I'm sure you get the idea. Dodging the word doesn't make the infection go away, only strengthens it's resolve.

Dodging the usage of the word fascist means the neo cons were successful in their preemptive attacks. Watch for the preemptive outrage.

Dead on! I never could see how anybody couldn't see the obvious fascism in the last eight years of Bush/Cheney government-and not once was it ever mentioned-at least on MSM.

Not sure what you're talking about, but save the poor attempts at snarkiness for someone else, junior.

No how No way. Family guy is brilliant. Brave too.

Actually, I used to think so, too. But South Park jumped the shark a couple years ago. I only discovered Family Guy a year ago. Its hysterical! Seth MacFarlane is a genius - and not just because of his politics.

He truly is a comedy and musical genius.

The bonus is that newcomers to Family Guy have what? 10 years to catch up on?

If it goose steps like one . . .

The lesson FAUX should learn is that at the root of comedy is usually an ugly truth.

USA Today had a report on how Nazi White Supremist groups are using the election to recruit new members among the middle class. You can be sure that these groups aren't trolling for recruits at the Obama rallies. Just listen to McCain followers shouting out invectives while they're standing in line and you can see the fruit that is right for the picking in terms of KKK, Nazi, and White Supremist organizations is found there.

All of the hate groups are totally embedded in the GOP. Palin is AIP supported, and every slur, fear and hate inciting word hurled by that party turns on and activates more and more of the extremist fringe white supremacists, KKK, John Birch Society and other fascist and active members of this GOP infiltration. Scary stuff. I feel like I am living in Nazi Germany before WWII, when the Germans still thought they had a democracy.

I truly think that John McCain and Shara Palin have gotten so desperate that he is grabbing for straws. McCain has sold what values and reputation he had to try to win the election. What happen to the guy who would lose the election to win the war. That guy must got into a bus wreck.

Did Fox call out the Virginia GOP member that urged McCain supporters to connect Barack to Osama Bin Laden? Probably not.

And for all the stick-up-the-butt left and right wingers out there that were somehow offended by this, this is EXACTLY what the First Amendment was written to protect.

And again the conundrum reveals itself. As heinous and reprehensible Fox News has become, Fox Entertainment is equally brilliant. Fox, Fox Sports, FX, all first class entertainment. Too bad they've been saddled with that P.O.S. Rupert Murdoch and the abortion that is Roger Ailes and Fox News.

Alas!

Great show, I love the digs. It's hard to believe that McFarland gets away with that kind of stuff on Fox, he must have them by the short hairs. There were also references to McMansions in both the Simsons and King of the Hill, Yeah for the good guys!!!!

If it walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck...
Funny, I remember this history lesson from back in the day- the whole N@zi deal- and I wondered, "Wow! How could a whole country buy into that?" Well, now I know. I would have preferred some study on it...rather than first hand experience.
