Michele Bachmann: "I Never Called All Liberals Anti-American"

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.) said on MSNBC's "Hardball" Friday that Barack Obama may have "anti-American views" and that the news media should conduct a "penetrating exposé" to determine whether members of Congress are "pro-America or anti-America."

Politico asked Bachmann what she meant.

"Despite the way the blogs and the Democratic Party are spinning it, I never called all liberals anti-American, I never questioned Barack Obama's patriotism, and I never asked for some House Un-American Activities Committee witch hunt into my colleagues in Congress."

It was live TV and she said it. There was no trap as she has claimed. Ask yourself one thing Michele, if what you said isn't so bad - why has your party pulled out on you? Maybe they are anti-American too. If you find yourself out of a job in November there's this governor in Alaska that is also only interested in "Pro-America" and she may need a position filled. You might think about sending her your resume. So glad to your foot firmly planted in your mouth.

Bachmann asks why it's not appropriate to ask about Obama's relationships? It is, and it's been asked and answered.
Why isn't it appropriate for her to suggest an investigation of all Congress for "anti-American views"?

I really think the Republican Party needs to hire someone to teach them the English language. It seems that so many of them, caught on video or audio, seem to say things that are blatantly apparent to the public what they mean and they come back later saying, "I never said that." Maybe they just don't understand the language and need some help. After they get done paying for Palin's next shopping spree, maybe a tutor is in order for all of them!

I sat and watched the show when she said it in horror. Sorry Michele, you can't put this on Matthews. He gave her plenty of chances to explain herself and she just kept digging a bigger and bigger hole. It was very Palin-like really. The internet has changed the game as Arianna pointed out. You can't say you never said something or I was misquoted when you are being endlessly replayed on Youtube and being called out in blogs for millions to see.

Ms Bachmann obviously got caught up in the hysteria drummed up by the McCain/Palin folks about Obama being a terrorist and other quaky statements like that.

It just shows the effect of untrue slanderous propaganda and how the crowd can be riled up into a vigilante lynching mob as a result of irresponsible accusations made by the head of the republican party.

"(Matthews) wanted to know if I thought that members of Congress were anti-American, and what I told him was that that’s not up for me to decide -- THE MEDIA SHOULD MAKE THAT EXPOSE -- that’s not my call."

So this has been completely misconstrued to say that I believe members of Congress are anti-American. I never said that. I said THE MEDIA SHOULD LOOK INTO IT." (caps are mine)
