Online Video Contest Aims To Inspire Lawmakers On Warming

Winners have been chosen in an online video contest aimed at inspiring the next president, Congress and the public to take meaningful action on human-caused climate change. The goal, in essence, was to solicit fresh messages on global warming that might punch through the "something, someday, somewhere" aura that sociologists say makes this a particularly tough issue to build a movement around. The contest was organized by the climate coalition called and Brighter Planet, a company offering ways to invest in nonpolluting energy projects through "carbon offsets." (It has a detailed description of how it chooses CO2-offsetting projects to avoid some of the pitfalls that have tarnished the reputation of this business sector.)
