Winners have been chosen in an online video contest aimed at inspiring the next president, Congress and the public to take meaningful action on human-caused climate change. The goal, in essence, was to solicit fresh messages on global warming that might punch through the "something, someday, somewhere" aura that sociologists say makes this a particularly tough issue to build a movement around. The contest was organized by the climate coalition called 1Sky.org and Brighter Planet, a company offering ways to invest in nonpolluting energy projects through "carbon offsets." (It has a detailed description of how it chooses CO2-offsetting projects to avoid some of the pitfalls that have tarnished the reputation of this business sector.)
