Palin Claims Vice President "In Charge Of The U.S. Senate"

Yesterday, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) sat for an interview with KUSA, an NBC affiliate in Colorado. In response to a question sent to the network by a third grader at a local elementary school about what the Vice President does, Palin erroneously argued that the Vice President is "in charge of the United States Senate":

Q: Brandon Garcia wants to know, "What does the Vice President do?"

PALIN: That's something that Piper would ask me! ... [T]hey're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.

Brandon Garcia is but another example of the gotcha liberal media. This question was totally unfair since no one has asked Obama what the role of the President is. I'm sick and tired of liberal elite democratic media journalist liberal again putting Palin on the spot with gotcha questions that don't have anything to do with the real issues facing the Pro-American small town common sense values people in Alaska and the lower 48 (sorry Hawaii...Palin can't see you from her home). I hope the media gets down to business and investigate people like Brandon Garcia for his obvious anti-American gotcha questions. I bet Brandon's parents work for the Obama campaign but we will never know because those liberal Georgetown cocktail people McCain (war hero by the way) mentioned will never allow such an investigation. Oh, it’s got to be about job creation too. So health care reform and reducing taxes and reining in spending has got to accompany tax reductions plus Trade, too.

Were you always this idiotic or did it develop over time? A war hero is someone who performs extraordinary deeds for the benefit of others. How in the world does that define John McCain? When his aircraft carrier was on fire, he ran. When he was shot down and taken captive, he cooperated with the enemy. This is your war hero? Are you sure? You can use your lifelines if you like. I am sick and tired of people referring to John McCain as a war hero! War hero's wear the Medal of Honor. John McCain has no honor and therefore does not wear the medal.

As a C-Span addict, I've observed the following: Legislation is created in committee but debated and voted on in the Senate chamber. The VP may be present in the Senate itself but you wont see the VP in a committee. Especially if it is controlled by the other party. Palin's not going to "get in there" as she hopes.

As dumb as she is, she is parroting talking points, which tells me they are trying to push the Cheney agenda of expanded executive power. We can laugh at her but pay attention to the subtext.

This is not a stupid response on Palin's part. It is a continuation of the Bush/Cheney/Alberto Gonzales successful efforts to rewrite the law and the Constitution by increasing the powers of those whom they want to have more power by giving a legal justification, no matter how weak that legal justification may appear. Remember, they got away with making torture legal, wirelessly wiretapping Americans' servicemen and servicewomen private conversations with their spouses, conducting an illegal war and stealing massively from the funds used to fight the war and numerous other outright illegal activities, simply by asserting a legal justification for their actions. As the Supreme Court is simply a right-wing political body as opposed to a judicial one, and as the Democrats are unwilling to stand up for the law, they've gotten away with many of their warped legal theories with no penalty.

Palin intends to test her authority as President of the Senate if the Dems win substantial control of the Senate and McCain wins. Her statements about asserting her authority as President of the Senate in the even McCain wins are not laughable, they are frightening.

The doctrine of the "unitary executive."

This doctrine MUST be impeached, because it is the thing that is undermining, and thus subverting, the US Constitution our elected officials are sworn to uphold.
