Think Progress:

Yesterday, Gov. Sarah Palin (R-AK) sat for an interview with KUSA, an NBC affiliate in Colorado. In response to a question sent to the network by a third grader at a local elementary school about what the Vice President does, Palin erroneously argued that the Vice President is "in charge of the United States Senate":

Q: Brandon Garcia wants to know, "What does the Vice President do?"

PALIN: That's something that Piper would ask me! ... [T]hey're in charge of the U.S. Senate so if they want to they can really get in there with the senators and make a lot of good policy changes that will make life better for Brandon and his family and his classroom.

This woman is a walking freakshow. She doesn't know anything about the Senate or what the duties are of a VP. It's not amazing, however, that wingers support her because they don't know respect what the Constitution says, either, as evidenced by their repeated attempts to deny and dismiss it.

i don't think she meant this statement as a power grab. she is just showing how intellectually stupid she is, a mental midget.

I begin to fully understand why they won't let her talk much. It's not because she says things that are wrong or offensive (which they usually are) it's because she's giving away their plans!

America is a good county and it's been one for over 2 centuries. Everyone else has managed with an error here or there to follow the rule book called the US Constitution. But if you're looking for a brand new form of government, with a blueprint designed by Karl Rove and Dick Cheney, vote McCain-Palin. If you like the country we have, the USA we are often angry with but love and cherish and intend to hang on to, Obama (the constitutional law professor) is your candidate.

I'm so scared I'm numb.

Freesia2, you may be right. They probably DO intend to continue re-inventing government.

And that IS scary stuff. They've certainly laid a lot of groundwork ...

"the rule book called the US Constitution"

It's not even a book! In a copy I have, it's two pages long, with another two pages to cover the amendments. In the three months since she was first asked this question, and the two months since she's been running for VP, Palin hasn't bothered to read those two pages. Or even to read the two or three sentences that define the position she's running for. Nor has that 25-year senator she's running with bothered to explain to her how the VP-Senate relationship works.

The primary job of the Vice President is to be prepared to step in and become President if need be. FAIL.

She would be working/studying full-time to get ready for that, and she'd only have a year or so. She would be much, much too busy to pay any attention to the Senate.

I wouldn't say it's the primary "job". The job is more to preside over the senate--rules of order--and as the article says, vote in the case of a tie (which is rare). In any case, she still has no clue.

Of course it's the primary job. Presiding over the Senate is purely ceremonial, and isn't even done ceremonially on a day-to-day basis.

She's clearly never read the Constitution and clearly has no understanding of the structure of our government.

"Comfortably Numb" -- an apt description of Sarah Palin, no? Or maybe "Comfortably Dumb."

When this is over. I am betting that Faux News offers Palin a job. She is a blank slate, bigoted, and devoid of originality...a perfect fit.

If the VP is in charge of the senate....which he is not...yet another reason to reject this abominable woman.

I lost interest after hearing her blabber on in the first answer. Her "blizzard of words" is astounding.

But isn't the job of the VP to cast a tiebreaking vote? Not tell everyone what to do!
I have a feeling Palin thinks she can fire and hire people in the senate!

Well, the proof will be what happens once she does.

So far the prognosis is not good for a response.

I've heard there's a fellow occupying that office right now who has invented a fourth branch of government and has not been challenged/censured/impeached on it.

If you don't fight for your rights, you don't deserve to have them and eventually you lose them.

So what is she saying? people who ask questions is childish! they need to ask her d u m b @$$ why isn't piper in school!! this women is a di s grace!!

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:07 PM on 10/21/2008

Ditto on' why isn't Piper in school' and what about her big sister, the one who isn't preggers, who also should be in school. And why is that 6 month old infant being dragged around the country and paraded, literally displayed, in front of the press at every opportunity, even before paparrazi at SNL! I can only assume hockey-moms approve of this style of parenting, otherwise they'd be outraged by her exploitation of her children.

Remember the Repubs had a hissy fit when the O's did an interview with their kids this summer...said they were exploiting them. I've been wondering when somebody would notice that she has been using her kids, especially the 2 youngest. Where's FauxNews on this?? WTF?!

This is something I noticed early on when she was disemboweling from a plane. She held her child front of her like a campaign prop. It disgusts me. Especially that her child is developmentally disabled. That seems to make him/her all the more effective a prop.

A horrible exploitation of a child. One of the worst things she could do, and that's saying something.
