I Like ItI Don’t Like It
Obama

A longtime Republican State Senator in Wisconsin history announced on Tuesday that she would be supporting Barack Obama, in part because of the negative tone of the McCain-Palin campaign and, specifically, the use of "dishonorable" anti-Obama robocalls.

"All of us should be extremely wary of the half truths and outright untruths that have been spread by the recent negative campaigning and shameful automated phone calls," said Barbara Lorman of Fort Atkinson. "While my admiration for Senator Obama has grown with his positive approach to addressing the challenges facing our nation, my disappointment with the McCain campaigned has deepened. The negative tactics are inappropriate, downright dishonorable and have no place in the State of Wisconsin."

In issuing her statement, Lorman became the latest in a growing line of GOP officials who have publicly denounced the recent tone and tactics of the McCain camp. In recent days, Sens. Susan Collins, Olympia Snowe and Norm Coleman, as well as former Secretary of State Colin Powell, have all been highly critical of the Arizona Republican's efforts to tie Barack Obama to former Weather Underground member Bill Ayers. Lorman is not, obviously, of the same national stature as these other officials. But her place in Wisconsin politics makes her an influential voice in an important swing state.

The fact that she is a lifelong Republican -- she left the Senate in 1994 and, until recently, was the longest woman serving senator in Wisconsin history -- now crossing party lines is also of interest.

"I'm a lifelong Republican, but Senator Obama is the right leader for our country and will deliver the change we need," Lorman said in a statement released by the state's Democratic Party. "After taking a careful look at the qualities of both McCain and Obama and who would be best for our country, I found that Senator Obama's ability to bridge the partisan divide to work toward solid solutions that will get our nation back on the right track meant he is the right choice this November."

Dude, you forgot to add "gender" to your list...

And haven't we heard enough about the role of "God" from Palin to last at least a couple of lifetimes ? There are a lot of atheists and agnostics (call us the religious independents and undecideds if you will) in this country. I would bet that a majority are prObama because he has not allowed religion to define his campaign, as they do in most advanced Western countries in Europe and also in Canada.

Obama has not pandered to the very "agents of intolerance" that John McCain now relies on and feeds with red meat on a daily basis. His fundamentalist co-pilot Sarah Palin is frightening to non-believers, and I think she also scares the bejeezus out of moderate religious folks too.

Well they warned them, repeatedly asked them to stop the calls. These Rep. candidates are fighting for their political lives, bless their hearts.

I would like to see an end to all robocalls in the future...positive AND negative ones. I used to get computer voice calls all the time from a school saying my child had not shown up for school today. It always freaked me out because I don't have a kid!! It was just a robot saying "Hello, this is your child's school, your child was not in school today and we wanted you to know. Thank you."

I never knew what school it was so I could call and say they had the wrong number and I always wondered if the truant child was having fun or if he/she was in danger. I was really happy when we finally got rid of our home phone and put an end to the robots and telemarketers all together.

""All of us should be extremely wary of the half truths and outright untruths that have been spread by the recent negative campaigning" -- AMEN. All the republicans are doing at this point is muddying the water as much and as fast as they can, hoping to confuse and scare people into voting for McCain. And of course, throwing out votes and jacking up the voting machines. That's it -- that's their plan for the country: win at any cost. How they've run their campaign is a pretty good indication of how they'd run the country, and that's really scary.

I am so in awe of these wonderful people who have decided to be "Americans first" instead of sticking to party affiliations. It goes to show the power of all things positive. Thank you to everyone who speaks and acts up against this nasty negativity that has taken over the republican party. Good bye to all things Rove!!!!

I grew up with Senator Lorman in Fort Atkinson, Wisconsin and she is a extremely honorable woman with an exceptional republican career. She speaks her mind and is right in this campaign choice -- when is McCain going to start talking about the issues.
