WASHINGTON — Al-Qaida supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.

The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah Web site, said if al-Qaida wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."

SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Md., monitors the Web site and translated the message.

"If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests," the message said, "this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida. Al-Qaida then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it."

Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, said he had heard about the Web site chatter but had no immediate comment.

The message is credited to a frequent and apparently respected contributor named Muhammad Haafid. However, Haafid is not believed to have a direct affiliation with al-Qaida plans or knowledge of its operations, according to SITE.

SITE senior analyst Adam Raisman said this message caught SITE's attention because there has been little other chatter on the forums about the U.S. election.

SITE was struck by the message's detailed analysis _ and apparent jubilation _ about American financial woes.

"What we try to do is get the pulse of the jihadist community," Raisman said. "And it's about the financial crisis."

Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden issued a videotape just four days before the 2004 U.S. presidential election directly addressing the American people.

Just a while ago, to keep the US diverted from Afghanistan and Osama bin Laden, Al Qaeda put out a call to toughen its fight with the US in Iraq. Now, unlike McCain who thought his adversary's intentions were gospel and is still singing and dancing wildly in agreement with Al Qaeda, that the center of the war on terror is Iraq, Obama correctly smelled the ploy, and is declining to continue to be diverted away from Afghanistan, the real tangible front in the war on terror. Now, if you were Al Qaeda, whom would you endorse?

Hopefully nobody takes offense to this, but to those of us not based in the USA the above is blindingly obvious.

I'm a Kiwi writing from beautiful New Zealand, and I assure you the whole world is rooting for Obama to win, in the interests of world peace. America has an obligation as the richest, most powerful country in the world to care about their dominant position and the effect it can can have on the general human condition, and the sooner the page is turned on the current situation, the sooner humanity can move to a better place.

It is crystal clear to the globe that America is a target for unhinged extremists (I'm talking about the t-wrists not the GOP) because of the arrogant and outdated show-of-force attitude maintained by the incumbent and their "if you're not with us you're against us", "good or evil" foreign policies, and the blatant lies told to THEIR OWN PEOPLE to perpetrate an illegal and immoral war against the innocent.

So PLEASE America, get out and vote for change, because the world desperately needs it.

Peace.

Don't worry, there are plenty of Americans that are upset about the current administration (remember, the popular vote did not want George W. Bush in 2000, and it was due to the electoral college, and a decision made by our supreme court that initially put his dumb behind in office) and are even more upset about the toxic nature of Sen. McCain's campaign.

We are voting for change. We are not stopping until we get it.

Thank you for your post.

Actually it's been blindingly obvious to alot of us Americans. But as Sarah Palin helpfully pointed out, we're not "real Americans," so nobody's listened to us for the last 8 years.

How about some deeper analysis of this "event" relative to McCain/Palin's previous statements, eh?

McCain, Obama and the Psychology of Decisions

By John P. Briggs and J.P. Briggs
The Public Record

The Candidates: They're Ambivalent and They Can't Help It. No One Can

The bailout crisis at the beginning of October dramatically illustrated the decision-making psychologies of the two presidential candidates - that is, their ability to deal with ambivalence.

With the financial debacle coming to a head, John McCain abruptly called for a "suspension" of the campaigns and rushed down the corridors of the Capitol in an effort to clinch the bailout deal. Instead, he threw a hand grenade into the negotiations, giving cover for a majority of House Republicans to humiliate their own party leaders and vote against the bill. He announced to his Republican Senate colleagues that he was prepared to act the maverick: "I appreciate what you've done here, but I'm not going to sign on to a deal just to sign a deal. Just like Iraq, I'm not afraid to go it alone if I need to." For a moment, one of his fellow Republicans said, "You could hear a pin drop. It was just unbelievable."

Instead of taking the lead in the discussions with the president - discussions McCain had urged as a way to force Obama off the campaign trail - McCain sat silently. For friend and foe alike, the turnabouts by McCain were puzzling.

Rick Sanchez, CNN had the message interpreted by a expert and according to the interpreter, the terroist wants mc cain to win because they think mc cain will be another Bush and then they { the terroist } can finish us off financially.

The rest of the world thinks McCain is another Bush. Not sure why some Americans are uncertain of this. More tax cuts and increases in military spending will just bring increasing hardships to all - except the ones with lots of money, of course.

americans supporting mc cain are not uncertain that he is another bush- they just think it is besides the point- it's not by chance that the hate mongers and angry people are on "his" side and they hate people not like them.

In 2004, we got a message saying blue states would be safe. Bush won. Why do we worry so about who other nations and al quaeda want elected?

The stories are printed *daily* about the US's dropping global influence both economic and military in non US news sites. Despite how the repubs like to paint things, the US does not have the strength to "go it alone". Bush is universally despised, and McCain is just another clone. Borrow - spend - borrow - print money, devalue the dollar, on and on. Hardly the recipe for a strong America.

As a liberal democrat let me say this: Since when is the United States of America made up of only blue states? It was a blue states that suffered, and the blue states are ticked off with the handling of this whole charade called the "war on terrorism".

Read the news, and not Fox News (it is barely legitimate). Al Qaeda (sp?) who we've been at war with since, 9/11, has increased in both numbers and attacks. Since the day that Pres. Bush announced an ill advised "We won" many years ago, more troops and more lives have been lost to a war that will be endless until we take on a new administration vastly different from the one that we currently have.

We need to draw down & end this war. For the sake of the citizens of this country, and for the sake of those who need it the most. I would heed Al-Qaeda's (sp?) warning closely, they want McCain, not Obama, because McCain wants us in there indefinitely, and will bankrupt this country.

As a reference, read Sun Tzu's "Art of War". It states clearly that no country should rush into war, and stay in it or else it will bankrupt the country.

If any adult American voters are swayed either way, to Obama or McCain, because of a filthy comment made by filthy al-Qeada terrorists; then they're idiots and shouldn't be allowed to vote!

Let's all check our party politics at the door for crap like this!
Let's just be Americans.
Don't give those cave dwellers the satisfaction!

It does make sense though. Keep us fighting and losing American lives in Iraq while the Al-Qaeda recruits and recruits and gets more and more money. McCain wants to PLAY war with our soldiers.
And that is the sole reason he wants to cut spending on other programs, is to spend all money on the army and war.

The point is that if AlQaeda had said they prefer Obama it would have been an instant game changer.
Saying they want MCCain is not reverse psychology-it's simple logic that anyone who thought about it for a minute could have told you.

This is only news because McCain once called Obama the candidate of hamas. Is McCain now the candidate of al qaeda? Their both stupid attacks and stupid ideas. It is funny, of course, to see McCain have to reconcile the two.

aside from beinf very badly written, what is the author suggesting here? that we vote Obama and surrender?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 05:04 PM on 10/22/2008

Really?! Obama actually declared surrendering to Al Qaeda? I can't seem to find that anywhere in anything he's ever said. Oh wait! That's halfarsed Republican hyperbolic rhetoric ya' got there, donchaknow?

Do you people not realize that Al Queda WANTS us to continue fighting in Iraq? They WANT war. They DON'T want us to pull out of Iraq. Enough with this surrender talk. Anyone that thinks Al Queda wants us to leave Iraq knows nothing whatsoever about asymmetric warfare.

More like a triple reverse with a two-and-a-half twist. Come Nov.4, some people will still be trying to out-psych the message and forget to vote.

Ant then the terrorists win.

New Front in Palin's 'Troopergate' Mess

In a new front for Gov. Sarah Palin’s “Troopergate” troubles, a top Alaska Democratic lawmaker has called on the state’s attorney general to appoint an independent investigator to probe whether operatives in Sen. John McCain’s presidential campaign broke Alaska’s criminal witness-tampering laws.
