WASHINGTON — Al-Qaida supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.

The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah Web site, said if al-Qaida wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."

SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Md., monitors the Web site and translated the message.

"If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests," the message said, "this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida. Al-Qaida then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it."

Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, said he had heard about the Web site chatter but had no immediate comment.

The message is credited to a frequent and apparently respected contributor named Muhammad Haafid. However, Haafid is not believed to have a direct affiliation with al-Qaida plans or knowledge of its operations, according to SITE.

SITE senior analyst Adam Raisman said this message caught SITE's attention because there has been little other chatter on the forums about the U.S. election.

SITE was struck by the message's detailed analysis _ and apparent jubilation _ about American financial woes.

"What we try to do is get the pulse of the jihadist community," Raisman said. "And it's about the financial crisis."

Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden issued a videotape just four days before the 2004 U.S. presidential election directly addressing the American people.

Something that I've wondered about for four years: Why does US Media (both independent and corporate) broadcast Al Queda's edicts and messages to the American people for them? This is aiding and abetting in acts of terrorism against the American people and therefore an act of sedition; which is not protected under the freedoms enumerated in the Bill of Rights. The media assisted in a terrorist act, intended to drive the American electorate through fear and intimidation in the 2004 elections. ...That's terrorism, plain and simple. The attack was successful. During WWII, the Japanese launched an attack on the United States, using bomb balloons. When these hit the north western U.S. the media worked WITH the government in maintaining silence and did not acknowledge the attack in their broadcasts. This caused the Japanese to assume the attack had no effect and they stopped using that tactic. The only thing our media needs to be reporting on Al Queda is how many of these murderers were brought to justice, today. We've been in Afghanistan for seven years... How is it that these thugs can still broadcast ANY messages?

Thanks, Alamandra, I have been wondering about this as well, and for longer than that. I am also wondering, and even more so, about those Israelis and jews who want to vote McCain in - another Republican - when It is the *roadmap* - thought up and presented by the Saudis - that Mr. Bush has promoted, and which has not brought any peace or security to Israel, and neither has given the average Palestinian much to be jubilant about. Many things are going on that make no sense to me. We are negotiating with this party against the other, or for the other, however the wind blows, and we are supporting two or more parties in a conflict. We are fighting in Iraq and rebuilding Iraq which has a substantial surplus, while we are bankrupt and the dollar is tanking. I do not hear much being said about individual acts of terrorism, such as the attacks recently in Jerusalem or those in Darfur. I am with you, how is it that these thugs can still broadcast, why is it that McCain says he knows exactly where they are and how to get them, a.o. Osama bin Laden, and nothing happens?

The media are spoonfed the messages from the Bush Admin. Frankly, now that they've taken to trying to link Obama to Terrorism my eyes are starting to open. The Bush Admin has really been our ONLY source on Bin Laden since the beginning.
Is it possible he's just a made up boogeyman, created to scare us into a war against the wrong people?
Think about it and then ask yourself, "Do they have the AUDACITY to think we would fall for it?"
I sure did.

The Al Qaeda story was posted on the FoxNews website for a BRIEF time this afternoon (with no comments allowed) and then as quickly as they put it up, it disappeared. I guess they realized how damaging it would appear for Senator McCain???

Actually I don't think those "test" statements are all that damaging if they're handled properly by the Obama campaign (which I'm not sure has been done yet). I personally think any President would be in the position of being "tested"...and, despite McCain's assertions - he has NOT proved up to the challenge. The only way to call him on THAT assertion from a military standpoint is to bring up his military background and it would be unseemly of Obama himself to do so.

Obama was just on Ellen! She called him on the campaign trail......the crowd went wild and gave him a standing ovation! It showed him in his pirate halloween costume as a kid!!! He's also on his way to see his Grandma.

He is just RIGHT ON! I needed that after reading the h o r r o r stories for today.

There is something soooo soothing about the man....people can say what they want but I can honestly say that I love the guy!

al queda knows that the war is bankrupting us. It also knows this is causing great problems around the world and could not be more pleased. Why should al queda send terroists here when they can defeat us using our own stupidity. McCain = more war + additional wars (iran) = defeat of the US via bankruptcy. We dont have enough people in the military now to handle the conflicts we are involved in. I know this for a fact.... our son has sent one 12 month tour in Iraq... home 10mos.... then back to Iraq, this time for 18 mos. and will be on orders (rotation) to go back in another year ( he just got back for this 18 mos tour).. So anyone who thinks this endorsement is a backdoor endorsement for Obama is completely wrong just look at the facts.... i.e. the markets, your savings (if you have any left), your house value, and the cost of food at the store.

Blaming it on Mac and Mae was just a temporary fake diversion. The Republicans are going to have to own their mess. The war IS one thing that is bankrupting us. Where do you think all those billions per month is coming from? Let Joe the plumber have his own money? Nope, it's gone to Haliburton.

The purpose of terrorism isnt to win militarily. It is to bankrupt the other party, to make the people lose faith in the government, etc.

They are doing exactly that and are so far quite effective.

Entitlements.... hum.... lets see.

Social Security.... money paid by everyone into a system to help one when one retires. The social security system would be sound if the govt would keep their paws off it. Instead all thats left is IOU's... the once familiar pension is gone thanks to the fat cats of the companies. People who worked all their life and were faithful to that company today get a boot up the a$$ for their hard work.

Veteran Benefits..... for those who gave so much they receive so little in return. wounded vets lives are changed FOREVER they paid the ultimate price... and they deserve not only our respect but financial support....

wrathofcon are you related to Joe the Plumber?

also paying taxes is an American thing to do..... taxes support OUR COUNTRY .... I pay my taxes.... I may not like it but I know for this country to survive taxes are an evil necessity. I see nothing wrong with those who have the most ... who got the most off the backs of those who have often have the least, to pay more taxes.....

You mean like how McCain's campaign manager was making fifteen thousand bucks a month from Fannie Mae, money paid to lobby for looser regulations? That he was taking through august?

I dunno, I think it's pretty scarey. I mean, the McCain camp has been saying almost non-stop now (well the pundits and advisers anyway), "A military event/catastrophe might be the one thing that could put this election back in favor of McCain" (paraphrased)

False Flag event in the making perhaps? I don't know about you, but scares the heck oughta me! Next thing ya know, the election will be "called off" due to a National Emergency and the Patriot Act.

It's reverse psychology folks. Al Qaeda, along with most intelligent people in the United States and around the world, know that McCain is a warmonger much like Bush. We all know he will keep the US in Iraq and Afghanistan and possibly try to enter into Iran. This nation is already at wits' end on a number of issues.

We may not want to admit this.. many won't.. but they won. They won, not because they beat us in a war. They won for the same reason Andrew Lahde made 1000% return on investments. Al Qaeda won because this nation has been so stupid and so blind in voting for the wrong people and for the wrong reasons only to appease our own greed and self-righteousness. Al Qaeda won because he succeeded in turning ourselves against ourselves.

The last thing we need to do as a nation is continue falling for the same trap. We simply can NOT vote for McCain. We've got to have common sense policy all around and McCain and the republicans do NOT have the common sense necessary to take us into the next few presidential terms.

The US didn't lose because Al Qaeda beat us. We need to pick the smart guy who's interests are the people, not the dopey C-student or the bottom of the class military idiot or the ditzy hockey mom. We need someone who has the sense to get in there, surround himself with CAPABLE people

Nothing like having Al Qaeda telling us what would be in our best interests! If this isn't an endorsement for Barack Obama, I don't know what is.

OBAMA/BIDEN -- VOTE!!

This story ,i realy believe that the McCaim camp is behind this.
Obama does not need this story look at the polls.
I realy do believe that the McCain camp is behind this AL-GUEDA endorse story.
The rep.. are famous for put fear in people and for making story with lies, but this story is gonna backflash at them.
Because it looks every time that the McCain camp are trying to bring Obama down >Obama grows ,it
looks like GOD is with Obama.
READ>The Rep ...party,McCain they wil do everyting to win the WHouse.
But this time it wil not work, people are smart >look at the polls.
