WASHINGTON — Al-Qaida supporters suggested in a Web site message this week they would welcome a pre-election terror attack on the U.S. as a way to usher in a McCain presidency.

The message, posted Monday on the password-protected al-Hesbah Web site, said if al-Qaida wants to exhaust the United States militarily and economically, "impetuous" Republican presidential candidate Sen. John McCain is the better choice because he is more likely to continue the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

"This requires presence of an impetuous American leader such as McCain, who pledged to continue the war till the last American soldier," the message said. "Then, al-Qaida will have to support McCain in the coming elections so that he continues the failing march of his predecessor, Bush."

SITE Intelligence Group, based in Bethesda, Md., monitors the Web site and translated the message.

"If al-Qaida carries out a big operation against American interests," the message said, "this act will be support of McCain because it will push the Americans deliberately to vote for McCain so that he takes revenge for them against al-Qaida. Al-Qaida then will succeed in exhausting America till its last year in it."

Mark Salter, a senior McCain adviser, said he had heard about the Web site chatter but had no immediate comment.

The message is credited to a frequent and apparently respected contributor named Muhammad Haafid. However, Haafid is not believed to have a direct affiliation with al-Qaida plans or knowledge of its operations, according to SITE.

SITE senior analyst Adam Raisman said this message caught SITE's attention because there has been little other chatter on the forums about the U.S. election.

SITE was struck by the message's detailed analysis _ and apparent jubilation _ about American financial woes.

"What we try to do is get the pulse of the jihadist community," Raisman said. "And it's about the financial crisis."

Al-Qaida leader Osama bin Laden issued a videotape just four days before the 2004 U.S. presidential election directly addressing the American people.

You must be one of those gluttons for punishment ...... you know, the ones who continuously keep banging their head on the wall saying they enjoy the pain! Maybe if you stop hitting your head against the wall, you might be able to unscramble your brain long enough to see and smell the real BS Your Buddy Mc is dishing to you! But, then again .... you probably think the past 8 years have been great! Never mind....... continue banging!

Ridiculous.

I don't give two craps who Al-Quaida is pretending to "support."

Progressives should know better than to fall for this sort of nonsense. Didn't this same group of death-cult half-wits hint they were supporting John Kerry four year ago? And didn't the right-wingers eat it up with a spoon: "A-ha! Of course terrorists support Democrats!"

It's just as meaningless now as it was then.

Who gives a damn what they think and why would they bother - bin Laden got everything on his wish list already.

The McCain campaign tried to use a Hamas statement about Obama being in favor of more even-handedness regarding Palestine against him. Now Al Qaida seems to be in favor of McCain and it is easy to see why -- McCain would spend the last of our economic and military capabilitiy continuing the endless was in Iraq -- without making a dent in Al Qaida.

And like Nixon's secret plan (which never really existed) to end the Vietnam War, McCain claims that he "knows how" to catch bin Laden -- but Mr Country First won't reveal it unless we elect him. I wonder if McCain will reveal his secret plan to President Obama?

If it weren't for the fact that al Queda has killed and injured so many people, and caused so much damage, this would be hilarious. Here we have an organization committed to the complete and utter destruction of the United States saying, in effect: "We can't possibly inflict as much damage on the United States as the Republicans can! We're just a bunch of amateurs compared to the GOP."

May I remind you people to see what is going on over at wall street? The big Republican moneyboys
told McCain...NO MORE MONEY!! We are cutting our PROFITS and Running , can't throw our good blood money after Jake McSpleen!!!
I think they are getting ready for October 29th..... an unsavory anniversary.....Cutting their PROFITS
and running for more American Taxpayer EXTORTION..
Think of it..Our REPUBLICAN Controlled Government, Thanks to Brainboy, has given:
Billions to Wallstreet thugs and con artists...derivatives etc ...after they shakedown county and state funds..
Billions to Insurance companies, Count Dracula Himself...as they go off on $1million trips rubbing
it in our faces..who's boss?
Well make sure and vote Obama and straight Democrat ticket UNLESS you know that a republican
candidate is there for US...
Sincerely
Charles Solomon

Dem leadership at heart, I know their hearts are in the right place, but their minds werent. Read this, from your beloved NYT

Dems took plenty of money from Fannie Freddie, dont tell me they had nothing to do with this. Their policy of giving money for homes to those who cant afford it is the biggest part of the whole problem.

Obama should get this out to the country ASAP.

Reason? IF there is some form of attack pre-election you can bet that people will say "See Biden was right but they are testing Obama even before he is President" - and we may see what happened with Bush.

Could this be the reason for the Army Brigade being depolyed on U.S. soil? Could this be the excuse that gives Bush/Cheney the authority to declare martial law and suspend the elections? Good G o d in heaven..I am soooo tired of this........Haven't we been through enough?

I'm ashamed to say that I am more t e r r o r i z ed by the thought of what my own government might do than anything else.

You'll really know what "terrorized" means if the Dems take the White House and the Senate. They already have the House, approval rating of 9%. Can you people even imagine having one party with total power, going unchecked? Doing whatever they want whether we like it or not. I don't think, even you Libs would enjoy living under Socialism and thats exactly what it would be.

Let's see...

On Sunday, Colin Powell endorsed Barack Obama

On Wednesday, Osama bin Laden endorsed John McCain

'nuff said.

I'm as Democrat as they come, but I must express my disappointment in seeing this headline splashed across the front page. For months we have been disputing all the nasty smears about Obama having ties to radical terrorists... it seems a bit hypocritical to now declare McCain the official "pick" of Al Queda. Does anyone else feel this way? It just doesn't seem fair.

I agree w/ U. Especially since this headline is a gross distortion of the truth. If you read the article it is apparent that Al Quaeda is covertly endorsing Obama.

Is McCain getting campaign money from OBL? I would bet he is!
