AP/AmericaBlog:

A new poll was released earlier today by the Associated Press that seemed to make imply that the race was tightening on a national scale. The Associated Press said:

The poll, which found Obama at 44 percent and McCain at 43 percent, supports what some Republicans and Democrats privately have said in recent days: that the race narrowed after the third debate as GOP-leaning voters drifted home to their party and McCain's "Joe the plumber" analogy struck a chord.

AmericaBlog looked over the methodology, however, and a found that the poll skewed far too heavily in favor of Evangelical Christians. Click here for the complete breakdown:

The problem? In 2004, evangelicals/born-again Christians made up 23% of voters. But that same group makes up 44% of likely voters in AP's poll released today. That's almost double the number - it's totally implausible.

If my memory serves me well, didn't someone from AP tell the GOP something like "don't worry. I got your back."? That individual then said that he was joking. Anyone remember that?

The mainstream corporate media has been desperate to sell the myth that this is a close race because they know that once the outcome becomes a foregone conclusion, the campaigns cut back on advertising and ratings sag on their talking head shows, which cost very little to produce and pull in ad dollars, provided that people keep watching. However, I am happy to go along with the farce because it will keep the overwhelming majority of voters who are not paying close attention from becoming complacent. If Barack Obama is going to win, it will have to be by a landslide in order to counteract all the voter suppression and voting machine malfunctions, which coincidentally always favor the pubs.

AP is morally bankrupt.

Facts are now opinions.

That's okay, let everyone think BO is only 1 point ahead. It will just make his 10 point win on Nov 4 even more orgasmic for us

I'm all for Obama supporters believing this is close. Just the thought of swearing in Sarah Palin will motivate people to get out and vote.

Vote early!

According to the New York Times, Obama's memberships on those foundation boards, "allowed him to help direct tens of millions of dollars in grants" to various liberal organizations, including Chicago Acorn, "whose endorsement Obama sought and won in his State Senate race." As best as I can tell (and this needs to be checked out more fully), Acorn maintains both political and "non-partisan" arms. Obama not only sought and received the endorsement of Acorn's political arm in his local campaigns, he recently accepted Acorn's endorsement for the presidency, in pursuit of which he reminded Acorn officials of his long-standing ties to the group

If Mickey Mouse walks into a poll and tries to vote, then you will have a case of voter fraud. Until then all you have is a smokescreen created to distract the media from the numerous cases of voter suppression the pubs have been pursuing. It was the staff of ACORN themselves who identified the false registrations and notified election officials when they turned in the registrations sheets, which by law cannot be altered in any way before they are turned in. If you have evidence of actual crimes and not just the same tired old Hannity talking points, which have already been discredited, then let's see it. Otherwise you should stop beating a dead horse because the polls show that the public isn't falling for this smear in particular. You're only embarrassing yourself.

Phew! You know, I forgot for a moment that this was an AP poll? The big story should be how the AP deteriorated from the premier wire-service in the world to a Republican press release feed.

They're doing this so that when the Repugs steal the election by the many methods of fraud they have perfrcted over the last decade, they can claim, "it was close" to begin with!
These people are truely REPUGNANT!!
Thats why we MUST turn out in unprecedented hoards to discredit thier foist.

The polls are skewed both ways. This will be a close election no matter what because of skin color and religious fundamentalism. Vote.

I have a question: why are polls necessary if they're not internal polling done by the candidates' camps? I'm not being facetious. I'm really curious.

They sell newspapers, influence speculators, fascinate and persuade the public. And of course they are part and parcel of the ongoing charade that we call electoral politics.

The only polls that count are exit polls. And election results.

Exit polls are extremely accurate, but in the 2004 elections all exit polls showed Kerry winning but W was crowned the winner. Gee I wonder how that happened?

We don't elect by popular vote but by electoral votes and OBama is way out front in individual states. In addition, did you even read this article? The AP poll is flawed and all other national polls have Obama way up. You can run, but you can't hide. Be prepared, this election is about to shock everyone.

Vote Early then go volunteer for Obama!

AP has been a razor-thin line to the left of FAUX News this season. Dubbing Sarah Palin a "star in the making" after her RNC speech and declaring it's over for Obama so many times that it's not funny. REACTIONARY political reporting is what you can expect folks, because most corporate-owned newspapers have given up their Washington bureaus and overseas bureas in the name of "cost-savings" and literally handed over monopolistic control of what you read to AP.

The best thing you can do is CANCEL you local newspaper subscriptions and donate that money to organizations like StopBigMedia or FreePress.net.

Unless, of course you like all of your news, radio and internet sources from ONE entitity.

This is as flawed as the military times poll released yesterday. It essentially interviewed white officers and made the case that McCain was overwhelmingly supported by the military. What a bunch of crap.

I believe it was a Military Times magazine poll of their subscribers and they admitted that it was made up mostly of commissioned officers (who tend to be much more Republican than enlisted personnel).
