I Like ItI Don’t Like It

Ellen DeGeneres gave an emotional plea on behalf of gay marriage on her show Wednesday, and included remarks targeting Republican Vice Presidential candidate Sarah Palin:

"I don't know if you saw this, but Vice Presidential Candidate, Governor Sarah Palin says she's that in favor of a federal ban on gay marriage," Ellen said. "Basically she wants to change the constitution. So if you're wondering, I'm sure you are, how I feel about this...I don't like it, I don't like it. I don't agree. Maybe it's because I'm gay that I think we should all be equal. But I feel that we're all equal."

DeGeneres also responded to critics of gay marriage by joking, "I don't know what people are scared of. Maybe they think that their children will be influenced. And I gotta say I was raised by two heterosexuals. I was surrounded by heterosexual, just everywhere I looked — heterosexuals. And they did not influence.... I mean I dabbled in high school, who didn't? Everyone dabbled, ya know?"

I told you all I've been watching CNN a whole lot lately. I've been watching it way too much I think because they've invited me to their Christmas party.

I'm not sure exactly what Ellen is upset with P alin about. If it is the idea of a Constitutional amendment, then I agree. Too many people want to amend the Constitution and to me that should be reserved for the most important issues only. Banning gay marriage shouldn't even BE an issue.

BUT if she is attacking her because she is againt gay marriage then she needs to attack Mc Cain,
O bama, and B iden. They have all said they are against it. Why single P alin out?

"Why single P alin out?"

Because she's a RADICAL "Assembly Of God" FUNDAMENTALIST!

I'm disappointed that Obama & Biden don't support gay "MARRIAGE" ... but they did say that they support "benefits" in a "Civil Union". I know THAT is NOT EQUAL RIGHTS (it would not cover ALL the more than 1,100 FEDERALLY-protected spousal benefits that come with calling it "MARRIAGE"), but it's better than Pious Palin's Plan to corral all gays into "therapy", until "cured" or back into closets. Our Constitution should be a shield to protect us ... not a sword to punish us! We CANNOT allow Palin's Bible to replace it!

They want to change the constitution to BAN rights for people, does everyone understand that? Even the most strict Republicans are always saying the constitution shouldn't be changed too much, and yet here we are considering it. The States go even farther, banning any kind of union that appears in any way to look like marriage.

I don't understand the ill-informed who say it will "open a can of worms" and you can marry your cousin. Gay people have to be QUALIFIED to marry. Which means, they take the same blood tests, and follow the same rules. Straight people can't marry their cousin, can't marry a dog, can't have 10 wives, and neither can gay people. Get it?

Gay people DO get married, all the time, in every state. They just don't marry each other. They marry your brother. Or they marry your daughter. Then later on your loved one comes to you and says their spouse seems to be coming home late, or seems unhappy, or is secretive. That's because they're cheating. Why would you want that? If you are straight, and the law said you can't marry the person you love, you HAD to marry a same-sex person to create a family....what would you do? Chances are, you 'd do that rather than be single all your life. And you'd live a lie.

Put yourself in someone else's shoes for a change.

"And you'd live a lie."

The "marriages" that are "destroying the sanctity of marriage" are those Larry Craig "marriages" of convenience & concealment, designed to silence suspicions!!!

The GLBT Community EXISTS! It ALWAYS HAS and it ALWAYS WILL!!! They are a NATURAL variant of the human species! They are as much a "BLESSING" as Pious Palin's Downs Syndrome child. "God" doesn't make "mistakes"!

The GLBT Community should NOT have to "choose" DISCRIMINATION (out of the closet), or DISHONESTY (in the closet)!!!

The GLBT Community should NOT have to live a LIE, in a LOVELESS LIFE, just to satisfy the SANCTIMONIOUS sexual sensitivities of HATEFUL HOMOPHOBICS!

LEGALIZE GAY "MARRIAGE"!!!

This very thing happened in my own extended family, and I know others that it has happened to. If society wasn't so oppressive, people could live their lives openly and truthfully, instead of living a lie and destroying the lives of others who get sucked into their lie just because they feel the pressure to fulfill some sort of false ideal that's projected upon them by society.

Frankly, I think the government should only be in charge of civil unions for everyone and then let people go to their own religious organization or not to get the blessing. It is two people's commitment and love that make a relationship a marriage not the government anyway. It should just be viewed as a legal relationship and the government has no business in the religion thing. This would straighten everything out. Now I'm moving on to world peace...

I like the way you think, McLacy. Thanks for putting it so succinctly. Hmmm, someone actually read the Constitution?

The country is in turmoil and this is what we pay attention to? If our Congress and Senate would pay attention to important things like business/oversight, education, and creating peace, we wouldn't be in the mess that we're in. Instead they spend hours debating gay marriage. Just, smoke and mirrors.

Technically, this is already true, it's just that at the governmental level, state unions are still termed "marriages" same as religious marriages.

Hence the overlay, hence the strife, hence the indignant christians on the board.

The only argument against gay marriage is the debacle that is straight marriage. Except for the legal and economic benefits, there is no reason to want to mimic straight people's marriages.

Don't be fooled by McCain. He's against a federal amendment only as long as states keep forbidding it. If there were any chance that DOMA would fail, then he's for a ban on same-sex marriage.

McCain is no friend to the gay community.

No, it is not a state issue unless we make heterosexual marriage a state-by-state issue as well. It's a federal issue. People move from state to state and cannot be considered to be married in one state but not another, to have rights taken away by some states.

Would you like it if your heterosexual marriage was not legal in a state you moved to and you could not inherit anything from the person who was your spouse in another state? Or if people could discriminate against you in some states because you're white?

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 03:55 AM on 10/23/2008

I will never understand why so many "Christians" feel the need to try to push their sanctimonious garbage on other people. Why ban gay marraige for other people? No one is making you be gay! (It's not a choice, by the way.) Be as straight as you like but if a woman loves another woman, who are you to say that that is wrong? Who are you to chance the Constitution of our nation to reflect your "values"? They try to push the fact that this nation was founded on Judeo-Christian values but, in reality, it was founded on the principle of the escape of religious persecution. If banning gay marraige isn't religious persecution, I don't know what is. This is simply hateful.

I've never understood what someone else's homosexual marriage has to do with heterosexual me. It's taking the word "HATER" to a new level. Just let people be happy and protect themselves and their families. It's, literally, none of my business. I'm officially in favor of gay marriage.

I think the problem lies in the fact that you want people to just be happy and do what they want. What constitutes marriage? Someone that I love and want to be with?

So, can I marry my brother? Can I marry my sister? Can I marry a minor? Can I marry someone who already has one spouse? It just opens up a whole can of worms and are we ready to do that?

And before you all accuse me of being a bigot or whatever, I don't have a problem with who people want to be with, assuming they are not related and are not minors....but I do agree with Palin and Biden and I believe Obama as well said that marriage is between a man and a woman.

Can someone show me that Obama doesn't agree with this as well.
And if so...why is Ellen only going off on Palin?

Yes... "marriage is between a man and a woman"...

and gay marriage is between two people of the same sex...

I don't think it diminishes the meaning of marriage at all...

Ellen's marriage is a GAY MARRIAGE...

Mine is a straight marriage...

I am not threatened by the fact that gays want to marry and live happy lives together...

I am more threatened by those who would choose to deny them the right to take those oaths... establish those bonds... and to be happy...

Oh... and to those who proclaim the sanctity of marriage due to the bible.... I cannot believe that my God would create someone gay... and then ask them to never be happy... never find love... never fulfill their dreams of family... and that's really what marriage is... two people joining each other as a family... right??

(leaving their mother... cleaving to their spouse... etc, etc)

Let them marry... I believe it actually protect the sanctity of love... and with it, committed monogamous relationships...

"So, can I marry my brother? Can I marry my sister? Can I marry a minor? Can I marry someone who already has one spouse? It just opens up a whole can of worms and are we ready to do that?"

I disagree with this statement completely. If you think America will turn into "Chuck and Larry" then perhaps you don't fully realize how seriously the average American considers marriage. It's not a flippant choice. And it won't result in a legal slippery slope. (And if it does, so what? That's what the Supreme Court is for).

Obama/ Biden support civil unions. Technically it's gay marriage but in easier-to-swallow phrasing. They do NOT support a federal/ Constitutional ban on gay marriage. When they say marriage is between a man and a woman, that is their personal ideology and not a platform.

If "marriage is between a man and a woman" then WHY were INTERRACIAL marriages "between a man and a woman" ILLEGAL???

Because throughout our history, RADICAL RELIGIOUS FUNDAMENTALISTS, like Palin & Bachmann, have SANCTIMONIOUSLY STIVEN to run roughshod over our Constitution, TRAGICALLY TARGETING "undesirable" groups of AMERICANS ...

Native Americans (savages)
African Americans (slaves)
Female Americans (submissive servants)
Gay Americans (sinners)

Wanting to be married to someone you love is GLBT knee-jerk politics?

Oh, and wanting to ban gay marriage, civil unions and domestic partnership laws is what? Straight well-thought out politics?

What kind of twisted logic is that?

I've been with my partner for 10 years now, through thick and thin. And if after 10 years of love, devotion, care, fights and reconciliations, birthdays, funerals, sickness and good health, we're denied what that hateful hypocrite Sarah Palin believes her daughter and her thuggish boyfriend should have based on a roll in the hay, then it is indeed a twisted world we live in.

And while we intend to be together for the rest of our lives, irrespective of what the Sarah Palins of the world may do, it doesn't say much for American society if it prefers to embrace the bigotry of Sarah Palin than the very real love between two people of the same gender.

Marriage is between a man and a woman, Koran or Bible.
I don't feel sorry for Ellen, she's nice, but she made a choice. So does a nudibranch. But at least a nudibranch can pull it off. Check out wikipedia for nudibranch lifestyles. You emotional types need to calm down and do some research.
I can't understand why Ellen, if she's so wonderful, doesn't want to add her genes to the gene pool of humans and improve all of us. Ellen, we want funny genes. You can't pass along the funny genes or the dancing without a man, other than a test tube. And what kind of guy are the genes coming from. For all you know, George Bush has been busy at the sperm bank. You could get a funny kid, with big ears, who's kinda funny, and can dance....
Look at biology, the stud gets the girl. When, in evolution, has a guy with a slide rule, glasses, and a centrifuge, got the girl..hello..... And if you agree with that, then in vitro fertilization should be the norm... K, argue that one, without getting your underwear in a bunch. Be logical, not emotional. Try the Wild Devine biofeedback. Ok......go

Logically, the entire clusterf*ck that this argument has become, could all be ended if people would just let other people do what they want without being bigots. Explain to me how giving homosexuals the right to get married is infringing on your right to get married heterosexually. They won't be taking anything away from you, but you are taking from them what they want out of life to be happy. This country guarantees the rights to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness. Are you telling me that banning homosexual marriage is allowing these people to pursue happiness?

The Bible and the Koran has nothing to do with this, because we have this thing in our country called separation of Church and State. I am a heterosexual Christian, and I, unlike most Christians apparently, understand that that separation protects MY rights to do as I wish just as much as it is supposed to protect anyone else's. Why is it so easy for me to pursue my own happiness while others are forced to suffer?

And I guarantee you that if we legalize gay marriage the human race will be just fine. Concerning our existence we should be much more worried about nuclear war than some people that think differently than you doing what they want to be happy.

I agree 100%. A lot of people have been attacking me for what you said and claiming that I am ignorant. Homosexuality is a choice. I don't see any way one can rationalize having sex with someone of the same sex and saying it is natural. Any studies that try to prove it is natural is inaccurate because when a goat and sheep have sex, it does not make it right. When a guy has sex with their sister, it does not make it right. So trying to ammend the constitution to challenge a social and cultural institution that has been in existence for thousands of years is not a way to say you want equality. And for those of you who claim it is homophobic, how about heterophobia?

And Sarah Palin, who has never read the constitution, should not be saying what should be amended.

If she had her way, she'd amend the constitution so Blacks only had 1/3 of a vote again, and she'd reinstate slavery.

Favorite    Flag as abusive Posted 01:00 AM on 10/23/2008

really? have you read the constition? where did 1/3 come from? are you talking about the 3/5ths representation? do you know who was for that? wasnt it the anti slave movement that was for the 3/5ths representation? didnt the slave owners want FULL representation?
think about it.
im not sure what version of the constitution you have, but in the real one, representatives in the states are allotted by population. blacks couldnt vote untill the 15th amendment was passed, but the slavers wanted to figure in thier numbers so they could have increased representation. the anti slavery people knew it would be impossible to pass abolishment if the slave states were allowed to represent slaves, against thier will. the 3/5ths compromise didnt work, and 400,000+ people had to die to begin fixing it. have you read the debate that took place over this?federalists papers? the consitituion, declaration of independance, which btw, came before the constitution and was against slavery? have you read anything, or do you just make things up?
btw, any idea where obama stands on gay marriage? no? he is against it.
mccain is for states rights, and that is how states like california can make it legal.
read. article1 section 2 is still there, so future generations, (the ones who can read), would know that by the 15th amendment, we RESTORED the rights that black people should have had all along when the declaration of independence declared all men are created equal.

"If she had her way, she'd amend the constitution so Blacks only had 1/3 of a vote again"

The REPUBLICAN Party are trying to do just that ... voter SUPPRESSION ... in swing states ...

"CAGING" colored-complexioned voters in MICHIGAN!

Republican "vote challengers" are using 62,000 home forclosure listings as a basis for disqualifying otherwise eligible voters. Their goals are two-fold: to knock people out from casting ballots, and to create a slowdown that will discourage others who see a long line and realize they can't afford to stay and wait.

A foreclosure notice is NOT sufficient basis for a challenge, because people often remain in their homes after foreclosure begins and sometimes are able to negotiate and refinance.

This "challenge" is likely to disproportionately affect African-Americans who are overwhelmingly Democratic voters. More than 60 percent of all sub-prime loans (the most likely loans to go into default) were made to African-Americans in Michigan.

"CAGING" ... Jim Crow voting suppression in America is BACK with a VENGEANCE!
